MODERN PSA POSTER DESIGN

Graphic Design is a creative process and touches many areas of our lives. Where do you see examples of graphic design throughout your day? How can color affect a viewers mood? How can the elements of design be arranged to attract an audience?

During the 1920s, 30s, and 40s, the use of propaganda posters were popular for encouraging good behavior teaching safety, boosting worker morale, and rousing wartime sacrifice. What can you create for a modern era public service announcement poster?

Part 1: Planning Research PSA posters from the 20s, 30s, and 40s. Find 3 different examples that inspire you. Place the examples on a page and explain in one paragraph why each example is successful. Plan a headline and catch phrase for the poster. Turn in 5 thumbnail planning sketches (with color). Part 2: Image Creation Design the images for your poster. You need to make the images completely original! Copying images from Google and using live trace is considered stealing someone elses work! You may draw an image and scan it into Illustrator. Use any of the tools that youve learned in Illustrator during first quarter. Part 3: Poster Development Group the elements for your image and place them in a full page advertisement, 9 x 12, CMYK. You can resize if necessary. Include your headline and any other pertinent information. Make sure your poster is easily readable and understood by the viewer. The goal of the advertisement is to convince people to change a behavior, solicit a response, or change an opinion. o The advertisement should lead the viewers eye around the page. o Pay attention to the hierarchy of text and images (what is most important?) Requirements: Images: must be original Final page layout 9 x 12 Color mode: CMYK
