Program objective These Master of Science and Ph.D.

programs were designed to provide advanced education for producing professional personnel with excellent academic knowledge and high competence in conducting international research in marine and coastal resources management. The rapid population growth and high level of socio-economic development since the 1960s have had numerous adverse impacts on coastal resources and the environmental integrity of such area. The programs are intended to provide the most interdisplinary knowledge of coastal resources management for sustainable coastal resources utilization with minimum impacts on environmental integrity which emphasize on community participation in coastal resources management. Program Plan M.Sc. Program Two plans are offered: - Plan 1A is research oriented program with no coursework required and based only on a thesis. - Plan 1B includes both coursework and a thesis. Ph.D. Program Two plans are offered: - Plan 1 is research oriented program with no coursework required and based only on a dissertation. Plan 1.1 is for students with a masters degree. Plan 1.2 is for students with a bachelors degree. - Plan 2 includes both coursework and a dissertation. Plan 2.1 is for students with a masters degree. Plan 2.2 is for students with a bachelors degree.

Scholarships A limited number of scholarships are available from the PSU Graduate Studies Program, and also through the Research Fund from the Marine and Coastal Resources Institute for outstanding entrants. Why further your studies at PSU? ** The academic staff have received their Ph.D. degrees from respected universities in many countries, including the USA, Canada, Great Britain, France, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Belgium, and Japan, meaning there is a wide spectrum of concepts and schools of thought available and used in teaching and supervising graduate students in furthering their studies and conducting dissertation work. ** The ratio of graduate students to academic staff is low, which means that graduate students have ample opportunity to meet their academic supervisors easily and regularly (no appointments needed!) to discuss their studies or dissertations. This provides a cozy academic atmosphere and facilitates the progress of the students dissertation. ** The location of PSU in southern Thailand provides many ideal sites for international

graduate students to conduct many kinds of research. PSU is located near the coast of the Gulf of Thailand and Songkhla Lake, which is the largest brackish water lake/lagoon in Thailand, with three distinct water regimes (fresh water, brackish water and sea water) providing a wide selection of dynamic biodiversities and unique environments for conducting research. Southern Thailand enjoys a tropical monsoonal climate and is rich in natural resources, i.e. mineral deposits, terrestrial, aquatic and freshwater resources, and fertile soils with plenty of rainwater for cultivation, providing opportunities for a wide variety of human activities. Thus PSU is ideally located to offer a uniquely broad spectrum of research possibilities in coastal resources management. Application Fee The fee for on-line application for admission (via http://www.psu.ac.th/graduate) is 15 US$. Admission Schedule Applicants can apply for admission for the whole year, or semester by semester, using the online application form 6 weeks prior to the beginning of each semester (normally the first semester begins in June and the second in November).
