LECTURER of CHEMISTRY Chemistry and Biochemistry South Dakota State University

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at South Dakota State University is expanding its presence in the teaching and learning of undergraduate chemistry with two openings for lecturers in chemistry. These positions represent a continued University and Departmental commitment to educating the next generation of scientists and science professionals. The new faculty members will be responsible for teaching on-line and off-campus chemistry courses in the Departments allied health sciences introductory chemistry sequence. The successful candidates will be expected to provide effective instruction and to advise a diverse population of chemistry and biochemistry undergraduate majors as a part of their assigned responsibilities. While the instructional area is open, successful applicants must demonstrate the ability to teach general chemistry and organic and/or biochemistry courses for non-science majors, the opportunity also exists to teach inorganic chemistry for chemistry majors. Other responsibilities include continuing development of professional capabilities and scholarly activities, curriculum development, participation in department, college and university governance, and professional service. The department has recently completed a $60M construction/renovation project which created space specifically for chemical education research. Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical education, or closely related field, a demonstrated ability to teach general chemistry and organic and/or biochemistry courses for non-science majors, prior experience teaching chemistry at the college level, prior experience teaching chemistry at the college level; demonstrated potential to achieve teaching excellence, effective oral and written communication skills, and effective interpersonal skills. Desired qualifications include prior experience with teaching on-line chemistry courses and labs, and prior student advising experience.
