The word punishment means the consequences of something done wrong and usually, this word is related with children and criminals. In order to make their children more disciplined, parents use the help of corporal punishment. Corporal punishment is defined under human rights law as, any punishment in which physical force is used and intended to cause some degree of pain or discomfort.1 This persuasive paper will state enough information in favor of, Corporal punishment should be used in schools and home. Most people think of spanking when they hear the phrase corporal punishment but this words meaning changes significantly when we relate this word with parents and teachers. Some parents and teachers have observed significant changes in students, after they go through corporal punishment. Corporal punishment has come out to be an easy method to teach the consequences of something done wrong. The child will be afraid to do the wrong thing next time, when he gets spanked the first time. A TIME magazine article says that 79% of students, who experienced corporal punishment, have become some of the renowned citizens of USA. Corporal punishment is perfect when used during 4-14 years of a child. When a child

gets spanked, he understands that he is doing wrong; this will prohibit him/her from doing this in his/her teenage years. Some parents showed softness towards their child, during his/her growing years and this led to the destruction of their childs life. Even the most ardent opponents of corporal punishment should be willing to acknowledge that there are at least superficial benefits to that disciplinary technique. Even if corporal punishment is usually harmful, it must be admitted that a very large number of well adjusted, normal adults have received corporal punishment during their formative years, and nearly all of these people can identify at least some occasions when it did them some good. Like everything has some advantages and disadvantages, The Use of corporal punishment too has some disadvantages. The American Psychological Association opposes the use of corporal punishment in schools, juvenile facilities, child care nurseries, and all other institutions, public or private, where children are cared for or educated. It claims that corporal punishment is violent and unnecessary, may lower self-esteem, and is liable to instill hostility and rage without reducing the undesired behavior. The APA also states that corporal punishment is likely to train children to use physical violence. It has been said that corporal punishment is used in schools, which dont have money for after school detention. In some cases of corporal punishment, students have become more violent and turned bullies. I take this case in favor of Corporal punishment, because I have seen some of the good results of it. My never parents never used the direct Corporal punishment on me. For example, when I was small, I was trying to touch a utensil with hot water. My mom gave me verbal warnings but I had decided to touch it. When I was about to touch it, my mom didnt say

a word. I experienced the excessive heat and decided never to touch it again. Years later, my mom said that she wanted me to touch the utensil, so that I can feel the consequences. Narrowing the situation to Socorro High school makes me feel that corporal punishment should be used with certain types of students. In my one year at Socorro Consolidated Schools, I never saw any improvement in students who are being sent to PIBA. Some kind of corporal punishment should be used with students who go to PIBA continuously. I talked to some responsible parents and they feel using the method of spanking has made their children turn from a notorious person to a non violent person. Some of my sophomore and junior friends who perform at the top level said they have experienced corporal punishment in some part of their life. Corporal punishment has given birth to some the most well renowned persons in the world and also some of the notorious criminals. Being good depends upon the nature of the child and the childs behavior depends upon the culture he/she is growing in. I believe that corporal punishment is not the best way to make anyone correct but this might be the only way left for the coming generations.
