NEVADA STATE COLLEGE TEACHER PREPARATION PROGRAM LESSON PLAN FORMAT

Description of Classroom:
11th Grade U.S. History Honors Ages range from 15-17 Gender split is slightly in favor of females Demographics are Heavily White and Asian students with Hispanic and African American students as well.

Background:
The last lesson of a Unit on World War 1. Students have been working independently on the class work and videos with some direct instruction. Most of the students are getting ready to take the end of Unit test during the next class period.

Content Objective(s):
1. 2. 3. Students will describe the causes and effects of World War I. Students will discuss the economic and political effects of World War I on the United States. Students will analyze how technological advancements in weaponry affected the fighting and outcome of World War I

Language Objective(s):
Students will show content proficiency through group discussion. Warm up activities will use a Writing component where students will answer a question posed by the teacher and answer using a well thought out complete response. Class work also contains a DBQ essay with will be turn inn with the unit packet.

Nevada Standards:
H2.[9-12].21 Explain why and how global power shifts took place after World War I and World War II. H2.[9-12].22 Explain how the break-up of the Soviet Union and other Eastern European communist governments led to the formation of new nations.

Teaching Strategies:
Lesson will include direct instruction, cooperative learning strategies. Independent study, Flip Mastery Classroom, Informal and formal assessment.

Warm Up Activity: Warm up activity will consist of individual written component based on the Concept of patriotism followed by teacher guided group discussions of individual Answers.

Lesson Sequence:
Warm Up: Students answer questions about Patriotism, followed by class discussion. (10 min) Lesson(Direct Instruction): First Amendment, Espionage/Sedition Acts Debs and Schenk Handouts (25-30 min ) Lesson (Flip Classroom): Students continue to work on class work packets and DBQ essay (35) Closure: Follow up on progress of students packets and videos, discuss the test for next class Period. (10 min)

Accommodations:
Some accommodations have been made for two student with visual disabilities. Students have Been seated at the front of the classroom to aid with sight and one of the students have received enlarged content materials for her use.

Review/Assessment:
Student response to warm up in notebooks Oral assessment of knowledge in class discussion End of Unit exam Assessments will gauge student learning through content knowledge expressed in group discussions. Mastery test at the end of the unit requires that student reach 75% mastery in content. Student responses in notebooks will be assessed as well.
