Rewriting Frankenstein
How can your environments impact who you are and the choices you make? Pick one of the following scenes from the play. Think about how the situation affected the Monster. Think about how if the scene unfolded differently, the Monster may have changed. Rewrite one of the following to show how they would have impacted the Monster and his choices in life if the situation had been different. 1. 2. 3. 4. When Frankenstein sees the monster for the first time and his reaction is to run away When the monster is in a town, where dogs and towns people are after him When Felix shoots the monster When the monster kills William

Your scene should have between 2-4 characters. 1 or 2 of these characters may be your own characters (not from the play). Your scene will have two parts: 1. What happens to the monster (the situation) 2. His choices as a result (the impact) Which scene will you rewrite? Im going to rewrite scene 1 What is the situation in the scene? What do others How does this affect the Monster? What impact does do to the Monster? it have on his life? What choices does he make as a result? Frankenstein just created this experiment where he made a monster come alive (from a dead person.) He The monster feels very sad and angry (mad) because was first trying to make an angel by turning a dead everyone hates him, he has no friends and he only person to a human being he turned it into an ugly wanted everyone to like him but it turned out as looking monster. everyone keeps on hitting him ( if they see him.) Others start to hate him and treat him very bad such He chose to take revenge on Frankenstein since all as everyone hitting him etc. of this happened because of him. Frankenstein just abandoned him because of his looks (as everyone did.) Since everyone treated him very badly he realized that he wants to be this bad after he was treated badly. If Frankenstein didnt take good care of him this wouldnt have happened.

How will you change the situation? How might things happen differently during the scene? I will change it by having Frankenstein create an angel but forgot to add the most important chemical to make it but he realized he used the chemical which destroys angels. Then he remembered that Clerval had this special chemical which could make the angel. Frankenstein suddenly shouted nooooooooooooo!!!!! Why! He stopped and thought why he made such \\\\\\ a big mistake and he said to himself what if it turns out to be the opposite of an

How will this affect the Monster? What impact will it have on his life? What choices will he make as a result? The monster was treated with compassion and kindness. This will make him feel better. The monster will act nice to any person who treats him well. This will have a good impact on the monsters life by making a lot of friends and making everyone like him and everyone will love him (no one will hit him.) He will not harm anyone, he will like everyone and he will treat everyone with compassion and kindness.

Name: Ansh Date: 11/3/13 angel. What if it turns out to be very powerful? What if it kills everyone on earth? He keeps on thinking, until suddenly a thing that looked like a monster wakes up and came up slowly from the bed. Then Frankenstein turned around and looked but the monster had hid underneath the bookshelf where no one could find him because he was very afraid. (Frankenstein didnt see anything because the monster went to sleep.) He tries to find the hiding creature that he had created. He finds him shivering under the book shelf. He tries to encourage him to come out even though he has not seen his face. At first the creature refused to come out but then eventually he did and Frankensteins first was that of horror. Frankenstein felt bad because he created a thing which will harm all mankind but he was trying to make a good angel which would help the people of earth. Then he realized that the monster was innocent because he did not do anything to Frankenstein. Frankenstein was nice to the monster because he knew that he was feeling weird and confuse, not knowing what is going on. He decided to show him compassion and kindness. Rewrite the scene using your ideas from the purple boxes above. Your scene should: Include A Note On Staging refer to page 6 in the Frankenstein play o Explain the set design It will look a bit scary and creepy because everything is messy and everything is thrown on the floor. The shelves are cluttered bottles and specimens. The Monster is laying down on a dirty table with a dirty sheet draped over him. A torn dirty couch was on the opposite side of the table. The wires were just lying on the carpet and somewhere connecting the monster to a huge black machine. o Explain the costumes and props COSTUMES: Frankenstein: was wearing a long lab coat which was bloodied and stained. The Monster: was wearing old clothes like a suit. Clerval: was wearing a black suit and carrying an umbrella. PROPS: black machines, a lamp, a chair, a bag, wires, carpet, bottles of chemicals and potion flasks, Clervals umbrella. o Explain lighting, sound, and special effects Lighting: was dim green light and gloomy, not a lot of lighting, it was hard to see. Sound: sound of lightening in the background and heavy rain. Special effects: lightning strikes the table were the monster is and smoke comes out when the monster is zapped to life.

Comment [JH1]: This should be is wearing, since the play is current, was would mean it is in the past.

The Monster: He looks ugly but he has a good heart (He is a good Monster). Clerval: Same age as Frankenstein he is impressed Include stage directions (in italics) to indicate how the characters move and how they speak In your scene, include dialogue that will move the plot along and show how the new situation unfolds and how it impacts the Monsters life
