ELECTRICAL POWER SUPPLY

ORGANISATION The working area of electrical services has been divided into four sections viz Township, MRS, Admn. block and TKJ Office. Each area is supervised by SSE/TS, SE/MRS, SE/Admn. and JE/TKJ respectively. There is also a Meter Section for calibration of energy meters and metering of residential quarters, service buildings, water pumps etc. The electric installation inside the workshop is maintained by CPE/RCF. SALIENT FEATURES OF ELECTRICAL POWER SUPPLY RCF receives 132 kV supply through a dedicated transmission line from 132 kV PSEB Grid substation at Kapurthala (about 9 km from RCF) which is further connected to 220/132 kV Grid of PSEB at Jalandhar. RCF is having large Industrial power connection Category IV i.e. feeder feeding only continuous process/essential industries. The installed capacity of transformers at RCF s Main Receiving Station is 2 x 12.5 MVA. This provides a 100 % standby transformer. In case of PSEB Grid failure, there is also an emergency power supply arrangement through 4 nos. 1000 kVA DG sets. From these DG sets the power requirement upto 3200 kVA i.e. complete workshop load except the colony can be fed in case of emergency. The average fuel consumption of all the DG set running together is 500 Ltrs. / hour approx. The fuel for the DG sets is stored in underground tanks of capacity 20,000 Ltrs, which is sufficient to supply fuel for upto 40 hours continuous working. The electric supply is further distributed to workshop and RCF colony after stepping down to 11 kV. There are 13 nos. 11 KV/415 V Sub-Stations (9 nos. in workshop and 4 nos. in colony) for further distribution of LT to various loads of shops and residential quarters in colony and pumps etc. The power supply arrangement is through five ring mains as given below. These ring mains can be connected to either PSEB supply or DG set separately. RCF has three more LT service connections one each at Kapurthala, Jalandhar and New Delhi for staff quarters/offices.

The salientl features of electric power supply are as under: i) Total connected load at RCF Workshop Colony ii) iii) iv) v) vi) vii) viii) ix) x) xi) Installed capacity Transformer 2 x 12.5 MVA Maximum demand of RCF Maximum demand of Colony and Admn. Note: DG set can be made available at all sub-stations of workshop and quarters in the colony as well. ENERGY CONSERVATION MEASURES Following energy conservation measures are being undertaken:-

1. Timers have been provided for automatic switching ON/OFF of streetlights.

They are adjusted as per time of sunrise and sunset at regular intervals.

2. Higher rating 125 W HPMV lamps have been replaced by more energy
efficient 70 W, MH lamps and 70 W lamps have been replaced by energy efficient 35 W lamps for streetlights.

3. The replacement of 40/36 W FTL lamps with energy efficient 28 W electronic

ballast FTL lamps has been planned for service buildings.

4. The existing AC plant has 05 units of open type compressors, which are to be
replaced with more energy efficient Screw type compressors to improve efficiency and reliability. Replacement of one unit has been sanctioned in Works Programme 2006-07. 5. It has been planned to provide 3 automatic power factor correction banks at 3 substations of colony, which is likely to improve existing overall power factor of 0.94 to 0.96. Thus more rebate will be achieved in energy bill.
