The Holy Spirit- Getting to know the Holy Spirit Introduction

You got to know Jesus Christ (Savior, Redeemer). He introduces you to the father and now what? You know that something is different, but what is it? It is the Holy Spirit living inside of you

When do you receive the Holy Spirit


1) You received the Holy Spirit when you got saved. Eph 1:13-14 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him [Jesus], were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory. 2) The guarantee of our inheritance a) He is precious and in like of our inheritance. b) Until we acquire possession. Your whole life long. Now, what does He really do? Who is He? And how can you relate to Him?

Who is Holy Spirit?


1) Part of the Godhead He is fully God John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. a) He is NOT a ghost or a spook. The appereance of the Holy Spirit is described as a dove or as tongues of fire. b) He is not here to scare you, but to help, to comfort and to encourage. c) He carries the wisdom of God 2) He is a person a) You can talk to Him b) You can offend him (grieving the Spirit) Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. c) You can make Him happy

What does He do?


John 16:13,14 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 1) He is a Helper a) John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit. To resist temptations (Sex, Drugs, Finances) c) He will make you His witness (receiving power) 2) He will guide you into all the truth (John 16:13) a) Open the Scriptures for you b) Revelation of Scriptures you might not know yet (Jesus the Rock: Luke 20:17-18 But he looked directly at them and said, What then is this that is written: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone? Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.) 3) He will comfort you John 16:7-8 if I do not go away, the Helper [KJV Comforter] will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: 4) He will convict the World John 16:9-11 [Convict] concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; 11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. a) Concerning Sin: The world will be convicted of their sin and their need for a saviour b) Concerning righteousness: Jesus is going to the Father, only a completely righthous man can go to the father. Salvation is an act of justice/righteousness. c) Concerning judgment: Colossians 2:15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.

5) He will glorify Christ through you John 16:14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 6) He will give you gifts and power We will look at this in a separate message

How to relate to Him:


He will force nothing on you 1) Getting to know Him a) Spend time with Him / Talk to Him (Women with the flat tire) b) Ask Him to help you 2) Love vs. Fear a) The Holy Spirit is like a Dove. If you make a noice and chase it, it will fly away. If you make noise to drive Him away, He will leave b) If you invite Him to come, He will come c) He does never force you or impose Himself on you 3) Invite Him now (afresh) a) Receive the Holy Spirit by faith Eph 5:18-20 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; b) Trust in the goodness of the Lord Luke 11:9-13 And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 11 What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; 12 or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him! c) Please Holy Spirit, lead me into the truth, please help me in my daily live, please reveal give me the strength.
