SECTION 1

INTRODUCTION

Collapse View

Collapse View
1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 OVERVIEW
The collapse analysis view program, called Collapse View (Collvue), is an interactive
graphics post processor that allows for the reviewing of non-linear analysis results in the
same environment as Precede and Postvue. The program allows for viewing of deflected
shapes, including the displacement of element sub-segments, and the gradual
plastification of elements for any load increment. The program also provides extensive
plot and report capabilities that allow for the structure elasto-plastic history and failure
mechanism to be represented graphically or in report form.
Collapse View requires a collapse analysis results or restart file, created by the
Collapse program module. The results file contains all collapse analysis information
required to execute the Collapse View program including analysis results and most
model information. In addition to the collapse analysis restart or results file, a SACS
model file may also be specified to be read by the Collapse View program. The SACS
model file is only required if views, faces or plans defined in the model are to be used or
if two line representation of non-tubular members is desired
Note:

If a model file is to be input along with a collapse analysis

restart file, the model file should be specified as the second
file on the command line.

Output from Collapse View consists of plot files and report files. Plot files may be
output in SACS NPF. Report files are generated as ASCII text files.

1.2 SYSTEM CONFIGURATION

Before executing Collapse View for the first time, the SACS system configuration file
should be generated using the SACS Executive. Collapse View accesses the
configuration file name "configg.sac" defined by environmental variable "SACGCFG".
Data from the configuration file is used in all subsequent executions and may be edited
using the SACS Executive. If the configuration file is not found or if the file does not
exist, the Collapse View program will exit with a "configuration file not found" error
message.
Note:

The environmental variable "SACGCFG" must contain the full path

name of the configuration file including the filename.

The configuration parameters used in Collapse View may be changed for the current
session using the File/Setup option.

SECTION 2

GETTING STARTED

Collapse View

Collapse View
2.0 GETTING STARTED
2.1 CREATING THE COLLAPSE RESULTS FILE
The Collapse View interactive plastic analysis review program requires that analysis
results and general model information be stored in a collapse analysis results file (restart
file). The Collapse program module must be used to generate this file prior to initiating
the Collapse View session.

2.2 BEGINNING A COLLAPSE VIEW SESSION

The Collapse View plastic analysis review session may also be started by selecting
Collapse View from the SACS Executive and selecting a collapse analysis restart file
and the SACS model file. The Executive will also prompt the user if all load steps or
selected load steps are to be read into Collapse View.
Note:

The model file name is optional and is required only if model

views, faces or plans are to be used and/or non-tubular cross
sections are to be displayed using the double line feature.

2.3 EXITING THE COLLAPSE VIEW SESSION

Select the File/Exit menu command to exit the Collapse View session. If the plot and/or
reports have been created to a file, the plot and/or report are saved using the default file
names.
