VISCOUNT ALEXANDER PUBLIC SCHOOL PARENT COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES Tuesday March 26, 2013 6:00 p.m.

Welcome Martha welcomed everyone to the meeting. 2. Acceptance of agenda Agenda accepted with amendment 3. Acceptance of minutes The minutes from the last meeting on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 accepted. 4. Business arising from the minutes None 5. New Business A discussion was held in regards to allocating the money raised this year. Some options that were brought forward by Mr. Beck on behalf of the staff was: playground improvements (basketball net, permanent soccer nets, updating the ball diamond, etc) Technology and field trips. An email will be sent out in regards to getting feedback from Parent Council in order for a motion to be passed to spend in the money in the current school year. The end of the year pizza day was also discussed and the temporary date for this event will be June 26, 2013. An email will be distributed to Parent Council to pass a motion to confirm this date along with the purchase of pizza, chips and juice boxes. The entrance into the school yard from the West gate was brought forward as a concern due to the muddy and wet area. Mr. Beck confirmed that Mr. Jesmer is currently looking into the matter to find a solution to the problem moving forward. In the meantime parents are encouraged to be mindful of this area and have their child/ren work around it until it can be taken care of either by the school or mother nature.

6. Principals Report Mr. Beck talked about the fact that report cards were sent home on February 14th, 2013 and was proud to mention that 87 students earned honour roll status. Honour roll certificate should be sent home at the end of the week or beginning of next. April 8th will begin the chocolate bar fundraising initiatives for the school. The campaign will run from April 8th April 17th. Money raised will be going to support technology within the school. This is one of the major fundraisers for the school throughout the year. Prizes for the most money raised will be awarded to students who choose to participate. There will be 2 opportunities for French language and Culture Activities coming up over the next couple of months. The JK-1 grades will be attending the Sugar Bush (several different dates are planned for this event). Grades 2-6 will be attending the Greg Larocque concert on May 10 at the TR Leger/GV auditorium. Welcome to Kindergarten is scheduled for May 7, 2013 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Viscount will have their doors open to welcome new kindergarten students and their families to the school. There will be school tours along with information from various community partners ie: Eastern Ontario Health Unit, Cornwall Public Library. Mr. Beck was proud to announce that both girls and boys floor hockey teams came home as championsGo Cougars!!! The next organized sport will be basketball and all junior grades (46) are encouraged to try out. Try outs are currently taking place with the tournament tentatively scheduled to take place at Rothwell Osnabruck school at the end of April. EQAO for grades 3 and 6 will be May 22-June 7. Graduation pictures for SK and Grade 6 will be taking place on April 3rd. There was also some discussion in regards to pictures arriving a little late this year. Therefore Mr. Beck spoke with the gentleman from Carpe Diem and the 2013-2014 school pictures are schedule to take place at the end of September. Mr. Beck also announced that the school has submitted a grant for Outdoor Education. If successful, the grant will be used to finance a series of 4 school trips (JK-gr.6) to the Benson Centre Field House. 7. Teachers Report No report. 8. Support Staff Report None

9. Treasurers Report Mr. Beck gave an update as to the financials for parent council. We are currently holding a balance of approximately $4900 but still have to pay back the school for the purchase of the basketball net. Martha Woods will be sending out an email to parent council to discuss how to spend the balance of the money. 10. General Information, Updates, Inquiries None
