KANSAS SNAP Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program


(also known as food stamps but now a Vision debit card)

El Dorado: 410 Haverhill Road / 316-321-4200 / TDD: 1-800-766-3777 DCF determines if a person can receive Medicaid, MediKan, health and mental health care, and other benefits. Services include among other things.: temporary assistance for needy families (TANF), assistance with food/nutrition (SNAP), energy/heating, child care, independent living, medical benefits (general assistance) and vocational rehabilitation. To apply online: https://oapub1.dcf.ks.gov/OAWeb/initOLA.ola?method=English Who is eligible for SNAP Any single individual, household or group of individuals who live and eat together, whose income and resources are low and who meet certain basic program requirements can qualify. Persons who work, but have a low income, as well as those who do not work may be eligible. You and anyone who lives in your household and eats with you. Household members do not have to be related to be considered part of the household. Persons age 60 and older and persons with disabilities. Disabled persons include those receiving Supplemental Security Income, Social Security disability payments, certain Veterans disability payments, disability retirement benefits for a permanent disability, and railroad disability. Food assistance The amount of assistance eligible persons receive is based on household size and amount of income after deductions. Simply swipe your card at the store when purchasing food and the cost is electronically subtracted from the card account. The El Dorado office serves individuals and families living in Butler County. Hours: Monday Friday, 8 am 5 pm Call for an appointment.

Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)


A federal program administered by Kansas DCF and offered to persons residing in 30 Kansas counties, including: Butler, Cowley, Douglas, Harvey, Pratt, Reno, Sedgwick, and Shawnee.. Persons who can receive this food assistance: Persons 60 years of age or older who have an income under 130% of federal poverty level (e.g.: ($1579/month gross for household of 2 persons). Pregnant and postpartum women (up to one year after delivery of baby), Infants and children up to age six: o Who have income under 185% of the federal poverty level (e.g.: ($3400/month gross for a family of four), and o Who are not receiving WIC vouchers. Women, infants and children receiving food stamps Temporary Assistance to Families (TAF) or Medicaid, are automatically eligible for CSFP. Receiving CSFP benefits will not reduce any other government assistance. United Methodist Open Door (Wichita) 1545 North Mosley, Wichita 316-267-0511 (call for days and hours of operation) Serves 12 Kansas counties, including: Sedgwick, Butler, Reno, Sumner, Harvey. Free food boxes provided for low income persons who meet the CSFP age and income guidelines. Food boxes may include such items as canned juice, fruit, vegetables, milk & meat, peanut butter or dry beans, cereal, macaroni or rice, and 2# of cheese for each family member who qualifies by age and income. Process: Eligible persons call Wichita office to apply. Application is mailed to you. You fill it out and return by mail with proof of age, income and residency. After application is received and approved, letter is sent to you with a notice about when and where to pick up a monthly food box. Call to apply by phone. There are several pick-up sites in Butler County. Monthly notices are mailed each month. Proof of income is verified annually.
