Software V4.0
New Features

Studer has introduced the new software version 4.0 for the successful OnAir Broadcast console series. The most important new features and functions are listed below.
Windows 7 Support The new software version supports Windows 7 systems, including applications such as Configuration Tool, Remote Console, Channel Screen, Log Screen, Route 1000 and Demo software. Please note: Installation on Windows 7 and Vista systems requires write access to the desired location. Ember Protocol for Mixer Control (Optional) Now the OnAir software also supports the Ember control protocol, in addition to the Monitora and ProBel protocols. Ember allows virtually all console settings being controlled, including channel parameters, channel strip assignment, master busses, faders, monitor source selection, output gain of logical and patch outputs etc., as well as propagation of channel labels from or to the controlling device. In addition, master level and gain reduction meter data can be transmitted in different streams with update rates adjustable from 20 to 500ms, depending on the importance of the corresponding level data. This option requires a license key. New Compact Monitoring and Talkback Desktop Modules These boxes allow adding up to 32 additional monitoring places for roles or functions in the studio environment who need to select monitoring sources and talkback functions, such as the Producer, Presenter or Studio Manager.Versions with or without a level control knob are available. This may also be regarded as an intercom system built into the console. For handling the corresponding audio signals, additional headphone boxes are required. Adjustable Output Gain The new Compact Stagebox offers a high I/O count-to-rack space ratio at an affordable price. It connects to the consoles DSP core either via Cat5/7 cable or, for large distances up to 1500m, via an optional optical-fibre interface. The number of inputs and/ or outputs can further be increased by using one or two optional D21m card(s). The D21m system offers a wide range of industry standard interfaces, such as analogue mic/ line, AES/EBU, ADAT optical, TDIF, SDI, Dolby E/Digital, CobraNet, Ethersound, Aviom A-Net 16 or MADI cards. The Compact Stagebox comes complete with twin redundant power supplies, thermostaticallycontrolled fan cooling, full LED status monitoring. and an 8-channel GPIO interface. Multiple Journalist Desks

The output gain of logical and patch outputs is now adjustable with the fourth rotary knob on the user GUIs Routing - Output page. This feature was requested by different customers; since it is a critical adjustment for on-air operation, access to it is deactivated by default, but can be enabled in the system Configuration Tool for a user requiring it. Stagebox Support Stageboxes, either assembled from the well-known modular D21m I/O system, but also the new 4U Studer Compact Stagebox (below) are supported by all OnAir systems.

OnAir 3000 systems may be combined with up to four 6-fader modules from the new OnAir 1500 console for individual journalist offices, sharing the DSP core among themselves.

Software V4.0: New Features

USB Jingle Player for OnAir 1500 The Jingle Player is normally used for playback of short audio clips, such as station logos or sound effects, from a USB memory stick. It can be assigned to a channel strip like any other input signal. The clips must be saved on the stick in linear-coded PCM .wav format; both 44.1kHz and 48 kHz sampling rates are supported with 16 or 24 bit resolution.

RTW TouchMonitor Support

A clip immediately starts playback when one of the dedicated clip keys on the OnAir 1500s central module is pressed. By default, four clip keys are available, up to eight may be configured.

OnAir SW V4.0 also supports the new TouchMonitor by RTW (www.rtw.de), a versatile instrument for multichannel level metering. This unit makes sense together with the OnAir 3000s 5.1 channel option.

DTMF Card Support The new software version supports a new D21m single-slot DTMF card available from BCD Audio (www.bcd-audio.co.uk/) with 16 audio inputs and 8 audio outputs. It decodes up to 16 DTMF Code-1 signals and sends them as GPI control signals to the console for further processing. The generator is activated with an onboard DIP Switch and produces GLITS and DTMF signals. A second version of this card without the decoder part generates different EBU and BBC BLITS/GLITS tones for audio alignment.
