April 7, 2013 Today we welcome Connections Director, J. D. Hite, from Lifeline Christian Mission
After 15 years in church ministry, JD joined Lifeline in 2010. He speaks at churches and events to share Lifeline's vision. JD seeks to develop and encourage participation in foreign missions and his goal is to connect people with Lifeline's ministries (churches, schools, medical clinics, nutrition programs, etc). He most appreciates the opportunity to connect individuals and churches with their goal of spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ. JD graduated from Cincinnati Christian University with a degree in Biblical Studies and Preaching Ministries. He continues to serve as the Executive Minister at his home church. He and his wife Kim have two girls.
Our guest speaker tonight will be Joe Hoagland, a member here at Fifth Avenue, who is a student at Cincinnati Christian University majoring in preaching. Make an effort to come out and support this young man tonight!

THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

Resurrection Sunday was awesome! We truly have a reason to celebrate. I want to thank those who helped with our Easter breakfast. The food and dcor were excellent. We truly appreciate your labor of love. Great job as always! I also want to thank those who donated flowers for this past Sunday. They were beautiful! For all those who invited someone to our services and breakfast, I thank you for your courage to live out your faith with boldness. This week Kim and I enjoyed some much needed rest. I am thankful for Hank Wellman who taught my class and for J.D. Hite who preached in my absence. The Lord is good for preparing servants who have a heart for God. Let me share this brief thought. The formal definition of impact is a forcible contact between two things, and God has designed our lives for a collision course with the world. David Plaat writes, What if this is not only biblical but possible? There is an old maxim that those who say it couldnt be done should get out of the way of those that are doing it. What if a global, God-exalting, passionate idealism is exactly what is needed in the lives of individual Christians today? I challenge all of us to be radically abandoned to Christ. Surrender completely to Him so that we can IMPACT THIS COMMUNITY. In His Service, Brad

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

SENIOR SAINTS IN THE SMOKIES: I want to invite, and encourage our seniors to consider attending this great event this year. (By the way, AARP defines seniors as anyone age 55 and up.) Several of us have been attending for years. I, personally, have attended about 23 years. It is held on the Johnson University (formerly Johnson Bible College) campus, in Knoxville, Tn. We will be attending May 2731. I, already, have commitments from 6-8 people (including me). This is a great week of inspiration and relaxation. (I call it summer camp for seniors.) We, always, enjoy the special fellowship we have as we travel together in our vans. If we register before April 15, the fee, per person, is $235. If you have questions or would like registration information, see me!
SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY:

This week (April 7) we are departing our current series and having a very special guest speaker. One of our preacher boy students, Joe Hoagland, will be our guest speaker. Do come out and support Joe, who is, currently, a student at Cincinnati Christian University. Our current series on the Friends of Paul will resume on April 14 with Luke, The Physician. In coming weeks, we will be meeting Aquilla/Priscilla, Apollos, Philip and Demas. If you are not involved in a small group, on Sunday evenings, I encourage you to join us. Communion is available for those who desire. Once again, I remind you that we now have activities for children each Sunday evening.
WEDNESDAYS: Our current study of the Epistle to the Philippians continues this week. You are invited to join either the 10:00 am or 6:30 pm study groups, as we cover the same material in each.

New Blood Pressure Equipment

A new automatic blood pressure and pulse equipment is located in the library. All that is needed is to put your arm in the cuff and push start. There is also a large cuff if needed. This equipment was donated by the Harmony Class.

FINAL THOUGHT: The person who has all the answers is either getting easy questions or is giving the wrong answers.

Last week in Childrens Church, I was blessed to celebrate Jesus Resurrection with the kids! Over the past four weeks, we studied the last few days of His life. We grew to love this man Jesus, even more! So, it certainly was a celebration when we learned about Jesus coming back to life!! We also enjoyed a wonderful Easter Egg Hunt last Saturday! We had a great group of kids and parents show up for this time of fellowship! It was great to get to know some of you better! Thank you again to the Huffman family for allowing us to use your space!! I am excited to see our kids here at 5th Avenue become even more in love with Jesus throughout this year! Hannah

SCOTTS THOUGHTS
Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. Mark 8:34 I remember the words of the old hymn the way of the cross leads home. We proclaim boldly that there is no salvation apart from the cross of Jesus. We know that He paid a terrible price for our redemption. We are called be disciples of Christ, literally following His path so closely that the dust kicked up by His feet would fall on us, yet somehow something is missing. Follow the logic here: if I am following Jesus, trying to live my life according to the pattern He set, I must end up where He did. To think that giving my life to Jesus does not involve the very real surrender of my life to be lived for Him and not for me is the worst kind of delusion. If we want to follow Jesus we must sacrifice self on the cross and follow with everything we are or we are deceiving ourselves, manipulating God and calling the lost to a religion with no power to save. Lord, lead us to the cross that we may follow Jesus in self-sacrifice, die to self and rise to live a life poured out for the lost, that they might find salvation in Christ.

Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance

Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-Coming King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
