BSNL is a state owned telecommunication company in India formed on 1st

October 2000.
BSNL has about 43.74 million line basic telephone capacity, 8.83 million WLL capacity, 72.60 million GSM capacity, 50,430 R.Km. of micro wave network connecting. It is the largest provider of fixed telephony and fourth largest mobile telephony

provider in India, and is also a provider of broadband services.

It has footprints throughout India except for the metropolitan cities of Mumbai

and New Delhi, which are managed by Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL).
The corporation tasted competition for the first time after the liberalization of

Indian economy in 1991.


Access Deficit Charges has been slashed by 20% by TRAI, on April 1, 2009. The

reduction in ADC may hit the bottom lines of BSNL.

Customer Market Share (CMS) 2011-2012 Bharti Airtel is the market leader both in terms of Revenue Market Share (RMS) and Customer Market Share (CMS). Bharti is followed by R.Com and Vodafone. BSNL Profit/loss over the years

According to the minister, BSNL had been continuously recording a significant reduction in its profits since 2004-05 (FY-05), where it had posted a total profit of Rs 10,183 crore. In subsequent years, the company recorded profits of Rs 8,940 crore (FY-06), Rs 7,806 crore (FY-07), Rs 3,009 crore (FY08), and Rs 575 crore (FY-09).

Customer Satisfaction
Customers are very particular about the Quality of the Telecom services and hence they

want BSNL to increase the Quality of BSNL services by providing the Customers with some Value added services (Plans & schemes).

BSNL may also introduce some sales promotion such as cash discounts; Quality

discounts hence the promotional activities would further strengthen the market share of the Company.

Basic strength for BSNL is Availability and trust of the customer on the same platform

company should make efforts to be in leadership position because Telecom sector today is very competitive due to presence of strong players & entry of new players.

Because all the private players are capturing market on the basis of Value added

services & affordability.

College going students and also some professionals switch to other services due

to attractive plans of private players. The attractive plans are like free calls & mobile internet played an important role to grab market so BSNL should focus on such plans to attract the customers.

BSNL goes by the motto "Connecting India, faster and displays the same at their homepage.
The mobile services provided by BSNL in almost every part of the country were and still are criticized for network outages and frequent call drops. BSNL claims to offer seamless coverage in almost all forests of India in collaboration with state forest department.
