1 Introduction
TheregulationsforthePhDdegreeprogrammeattheGraduateSchoolofTheology andtheStudyofReligionareinaccordancewithMinisterialOrderonthePhD programmeattheUniversitiesNo.18,14January2008(PhDorder),theMinisterial guidelinesonthePhDprogrammeattheUniversities(Vejledning)andthe RegulationsoftheUniversityofAarhusconcerningthePhDdegree. Accordingtosection16b(1)oftheDanishUniversitiesAct,PhDdegreeprogrammes aretheresponsibilityofgraduateschools.AttheFacultyofTheologythe responsibilityrestswithTheGraduateSchoolofTheologyandtheStudyofReligion. TheGraduateSchoolhasthefollowingobjectives: TocontributetotheFacultysresearchbyrecruitingskilledDanishand foreignpeoplewhohavetalentsthatwouldqualitythemtobecome researcherswithinTheologyandtheStudyofReligion TopromotecollaborationwithpartnersbothinDenmarkandabroad ToensureongoingdevelopmentofthequalityofthePhDdegreeprogramme (supervision,conferences,andperiodsofstudyabroad)andtocontributeto developingagrowing,positivefieldofemploymentforgraduatesofthe GraduateSchool.

2 Objectives,structureandorganisationofthePhDdegree programme
2.1 Objectives
ThePhDdegreeprogrammeisaresearchprogrammeaimedatdevelopingthePhD studentsresearchskillsforconductingindependentresearchataninternational level,i.e.abilitytorecognitionandindependentstudyanddisseminationofscholarly research.TheprogrammealsodevelopsthePhDstudentsfamiliaritywiththe theoriesandmethodsinthefieldofstudyandqualifiesthemtoindependentlydeal withresearch,developmentandteaching,bothinpublicandprivatesectors.Theaim 5

ofthePhDdegreeprogrammeisthustopreparePhDgraduatesbothfor employmentasresearchersandforawidevarietyofjobopportunitiesintheprivate orthepublicsector(cf.theMinisterialreportAPublicGood:PhDEducationin Denmark,2006). TheGraduateSchoolsPhDCommitteeandBoardworktoimplementandachieve theseoverallobjectivesinconsiderationoftheUniversitysandtheFacultys strategiesandactionplans.

2.2 Structure
TheGraduateSchoolofTheologyandtheStudyofReligionoffersbotha4yeardual MA/PhDdegreeprogramme(4+4)anda3yearPhDdegreeprogramme(5+3).From thebelowsections,itwillappearwhichspecificregulationsapplytothe4yearand the3yearprogrammes,respectively.Wherenototherwisestated,theregulations applytobothprogrammes. 2.2.1 4yeardualMA/PhD(4+4)

Studentsenrolledonthe4yeardualMA/PhDdegreeprogrammearerequiredto havecompletedarelevantBachelorsdegreeprogramme(ortohavepassed examinationsequivalentofa3yearDanishBachelorsdegree)andtohavepassed Mastersdegreeexaminationsthatcorrespondto60ECTSpriortotheiradmission. Duringthefirsttwoyears(partA),PhDstudentsareenrolledonboththeMasters degreeprogrammeandthePhDdegreeprogrammeandmustcompletetheir MastersdegreeinoneoftheFacultyofTheologysfieldsofstudybytheendofthe secondyear.StudentsenrolledonadifferentMastersdegreeprogrammemustbe transferredtooneoftheFacultysfieldsofstudyatthetimeofenrolmentinthe4 yeardualMA/PhDdegreeprogramme.Duringtheremainingtwoyears(partB),the PhDstudentsareonlyenrolledonthePhDdegreeprogramme. 2.2.2 3yearPhD(5+3)

Studentsenrolledonthe3yearPhDdegreeprogrammearerequiredtohave completedrelevantBachelorsandMastersdegreeprogrammes(ortohavepassed examinationsequivalentofa3yearDanishBachelorsdegreeanda2yearDanish Mastersdegree)priortotheiradmission.Enrolmentisforaperiodof3years.

2.3 Organisation
2.3.1 Management TheDeanoftheFacultyofTheologyappointstheHeadofGraduateSchooltorun theSchoolincollaborationwiththePhDCommittee. TheroleoftheHeadofGraduateSchoolisto: 2.3.2 AllocatePhDsupervisors ApprovePhDstudentsafterrecommendationbytheacademicstaffmembers ofthePhDCommittee PlantheGraduateSchoolsPhDdegreeprogramme,includingperiodsof studyataninternationalresearchinstitution ContinuouslyevaluatetheGraduateSchoolsactivities. PhDCommittee

TheFacultyofTheologyhassetupaPhDCommitteeconsistingofthreemembers representingtheacademicstaffandtwomembersrepresentingthePhDstudents. TheroleofthePhDCommitteeisto: RecommendtotheDeanontheappointmentofachairmanfromamongthe PhDcommitteesacademicstaffand,ifapplicable,avicechairmanfrom amongthePhDcommitteesPhDstudents RecommendtotheDeanonthecompositionofassessmentcommittees ApprovePhDcourses SubmitproposalstotheHeadofGraduateSchooloninternalguidelinesfor theGraduateSchool,includingPhDsupervision ProvidetheHeadofGraduateSchoolwithevaluatingcommentsonthePhD degreeprogrammeandPhDsupervision Approveapplicationsforcredittransferandexemptions CommentonallmatterswithinitsfieldofcompetencerelatingtothePhD degreeprogrammeandPhDsupervisionsubmittedtothecommitteebythe DeanorapersonauthorisedbytheDean.

3 AdmissiontothePhDdegreeprogramme
3.1 Entrancequalifications
3.1.1 4yeardualMA/PhD(4+4) Tobeenrolledonthe4yeardualMA/PhDdegreeprogramme,applicantsare requiredtohavecompletedaBachelorsdegreeprogramme(ortohavepassed examinationsequivalentofa3yearDanishBachelorsdegree)andtohavepassed Mastersdegreeexaminationsthatcorrespondto60ECTSpriortotheiradmission. Theexaminationspassedmustbeintheology,thestudyofreligionoranother relevantdegreeprogrammethatisconsideredtoprovidethenecessaryacademic prerequisitesforcompletingaPhDprojectwithintheFacultyofTheologysresearch areas. Itispossibletoapplyforadmissionbeforetheaboveconditionsaremet,but requirementsmustbemetatthetimeofenrolment. 3.1.2 3yearPhD(5+3)

Tobeenrolledonthe3yearPhDdegreeprogramme,applicantsarerequiredtohave completedaBachelorsandaMastersdegreeprogramme(ortohavepassed examinationsequivalentofa3yearDanishBachelorsdegreeanda2yearDanish Mastersdegree)intheology,thestudyofreligionoranotherrelevantMasters degreeprogrammethatisconsideredtoprovidethenecessaryacademic prerequisitesforcompletingaPhDprojectwithintheFacultyofTheologysresearch areas. Itispossibletoapplyforadmissionbeforetheaboveconditionsaremet,but requirementsmustbemetatthetimeofenrolment.

3.2 Otherrequirements
ProficiencyinEnglishaswellasfamiliaritywithreadingforeignlanguagesrelevant totheprojectisrequired. ForcertainPhDprojectstobeapprovedandcompleted,otherspecificprerequisites mayberequired.Suchprerequisitesincludefamiliaritywithfieldspecific methodology,e.g.fieldwork,interviewsurveys,orspecialphilologicalknowledge. 8

3.3 Theapplication
ApplicationsshouldbesubmittedelectronicallythroughAarhusUniversitysself servicesystemathttps://mit.au.dk/index.cfm?sprog=en.Formoreinformation abouttheapplicationprocedure,seetheGraduateSchoolsguidelinesfor application. 3.3.1 4yeardualMA/PhD(4+4)

Allapplicationsmustcontainaprojectoutlineofmaximum3pages,includingnotes butexcludingbibliographyetc.Theprojectoutlinemustcontainthefollowing elements: Apreliminaryprojecttitle AnoutlineoftheresearchprojectprovidingthebasisofthePhDstudiesanda preliminarytopicforthePhDdissertation Astatementinsupportoftheacademic(respectivelyinterdisciplinary) researchprojectand,ifapplicable,preliminaryconsiderationsofmethods, theories,materialetc. Apersonalmotivationbehindtheapplication(maximum2035lines),stating brieflytheapplicantsintendeddevelopment,careerandfutureplansand showingtherelationtotheoutlinedPhDproject.

ApplicationsmustalsocontainBachelorsdegreediploma(orproofofexaminations passedequivalentofaBachelorsdegree),proofofMastersdegreeexaminations passed,andcurriculumvitae. 3.3.2 3yearPhD(5+3)

Allapplicationsmustcontainaprojectdescriptionofmaximum5pages,including notes,butexcludingbibliographyetc.Theprojectdescriptionmustcontainthe followingelements: Thelimitsandfocusoftheprojectanditsrelationtotheinternationalresearch inthefield.Towhichextentdoestheprojectcontributetothefieldof research? ApplicationsmustalsocontainBachelorsdegreeandMastersdegreediplomas(or proofofexaminationspassedequivalentofaBachelorsdegreeandaMasters degree)andcurriculumvitae.

3.4 FundingforthePhDdegreeprogramme
EnrolmentasaPhDstudentattheGraduateSchoolissubjecttotheavailabilityof projectfunding.Themostcommonformsoffundingarementionedbelow.Further informationabouttheindividualformsoffundingisavailableontheGraduate Schoolwebsite.Withoutfunding,enrolmentasaPhDstudentisnotpossible, notwithstandingthattheapplicantmeetstherequirementsforenrolment. TheFacultyofTheologyinvitesapplicationsforadmissiontothePhDdegree programmetwiceayear.DeadlinesforapplicationsareavailableontheGraduate Schoolwebsite. 3.4.1 4yeardualMA/PhD(4+4)

Themostcommonformoffundingforthe4yeardualMA/PhDdegreeprogramme isa2yearPhDscholarship(partA),followedbya2yearPhDfellowshipfundedby theFacultyofTheology(partB). 3.4.2 3yearPhD(5+3) ThreeyearPhDfellowshipfundedbytheFacultyofTheology

Thefollowingformsoffundingforthe3yearPhDdegreeprogrammearepossible:

ThreeyearPhDfellowshipfundedbytheDanishCouncilforIndependent Research|Humanities(FKK) ThreeyearPhDfellowshipjointlyfundedinconnectionwiththesigningof cooperativeagreementswithexternalpartners SalaryduringthePhDstudiesfundedundertheIndustrialPhDprogramme Paymentoftuitionfees,whichpresupposesthatthePhDstudenthasobtained fundingfromexternalsourcestocoverownsalaryduringhis/herstudies.

3.5 Asesssmentcriteria
Thesubmittedapplicationsandprojectdescriptionsaredealtwithbyanassessment committeeconsistingofthethreeacademicstaffmembersoftheFacultysPhD Committee.Inassessingapplications,theassessmentcommitteefocusesonthe elementsmentionedaboveconcerningthecontentoftheprojectoutlineandproject description.Thecommitteealsoconsiderswhethertheprojectisclearlydefinedand whetheritislikelythattheprojectwillbecompletedwithinthreeyearsoffulltime studies. Inassessingtheapplicantsqualifications,emphasiswillbeplacedontheapplicants generalqualificationsandthespecialqualificationsrelevanttothecompletionofthe project.Theassessmentcommitteedecideswhethertheapplicantsareconsidered qualifiedornonqualifiedanddeliversitsrecommendationtotheDean. Shortlistedapplicantsmaybeinvitedtoattendaninterviewoffifteentwenty minuteswiththeDean,whosubsequentlydecideswhichofthesecandidatescanbe grantedenrolmentandascholarship/fellowship.

4 ContentofthePhDdegreeprogramme
4.1 Courses
ItisarequirementthatPhDstudents,duringthedegreeprogramme,shouldattend PhDcoursesequivalentof30ECTS.Arelevantselectionofcoursesshouldbeagreed betweentheindividualPhDstudentandhisorherprincipalsupervisorandfinally determinedinthePhDplan,whichmustbeapprovedbythePhDCommittee.Itis theresponsibilityoftheprincipalsupervisorthatthecoursesarerelevantandata suitableacademiclevel.TheGraduateSchooloffersaselectionofcompulsoryand 11

electivecourses.Furtherinformationaboutthecourseprogrammeisavailableonthe GraduateSchoolwebsite,whichalsoprovidesinformationaboutupcomingcourses andevents. 4.1.1 Compulsorycourses

TheGraduateSchoolhasputtogetheracompulsorycourseprogrammeequivalentof 14ECTS.Theprogrammeincludesanumberoftoolscoursesandatotaloffive Readingsofworks(i.e.theclassicworksofthesubject),twoofwhichmustberead underthesupervisionofaseniorresearcher.TheReadingsofworksshouldcovera certainscopeandcanthereforeonlyinexceptionalcasesbeincludedinthePhD dissertationbibliography.TheReadingsofworksmustbeagreedbetweenthePhD studentandhisorherprincipalsupervisorandincorporatedinthePhDplan. Readingsofworksprovidedunderthesupervisionofaseniorresearcherhavebeen preapproved.TheselfstudiedReadingsofworksshouldconcludewithafivepage A4summarytobesubmittedtotheFacultySecretariat. 4.1.2 Electivecourses

InadditiontothecompulsoryPhDcoursesequivalentof14ECTSintotal,allPhD studentsmustattendelectivecoursesrelatedtothefieldofstudytoatotalvalueof 14ECTS. AnECTSevaluationwillhavetobemadeforelectivePhDcoursestakenatother institutionsinDenmarkorabroad.ApplicationforECTSevaluationmustbesentto theFacultySecretariattogetherwithanaccountofthehoursassignedtocoursework preparation.ProgrammeofthePhDcoursemustbesubmittedwiththeapplication. ApprovalofexternalcoursesmustbesoughtbeforethePhDstudentattendsthe course.

4.2 Periodsofstudyatanotherresearchinstitution
AccordingtothePhDorder,itmustbeensuredthatPhDstudentsspendaperiodof studyatanotherresearchinstitution,preferablyabroad.PhDstudentsatthe GraduateSchoolofTheologyandtheStudyofReligionareexpectedtoincludea shorterorlongerperiodofstudyabroadasanaturalpartoftheirPhDdegree programme.Thisstudyperiodshouldbeagreedbetweentheprincipalsupervisor andthePhDstudentandspecifiedinthePhDplan. 12

4.3 Experienceinteachingandcommunicationofknowledge
Duringthecourseoftheirstudies,PhDstudentsmustacquireexperienceinteaching activitiesorotherformofcommunicatingknowledge.Teachingactivitiesmustbe preparedandcarriedoutincollaborationwiththeDirectorofStudiesforthe BachelorsandMastersdegreeprogrammes.AllPhDstudentsmustcomplete disseminationactivitiesintheformofthepresentationofprojectsandparticipation withownpaperinconferences. 4.3.1 4yeardualMA/PhD(4+4)

DuringPartAofthe4yeardualMA/PhDdegreeprogramme,PhDstudentsmust carryoutateachingtrainingactivityincollaborationwiththeirprincipalsupervisor. DuringPartBoftheprogramme,PhDstudentsmustcarryoutateachingactivityof twohoursperweek,preferablywithinthePhDstudentsresearcharea.Theprincipal supervisorisexpectedtotakeanactivepartinthePhDstudentsplanningand evaluationoftheteachingactivities.Theprincipalsupervisorisalsorecommendedto attendthePhDstudentsteachingsessions.Inaddition,thetaskstobeundertaken duringPartBincludeotherformsofcommunicatingknowledge,suchas contributingwitheditorialworkorarranginganacademicconference. 4.3.2 3yearPhD(5+3)

PhDstudentsenrolledonthe3yearPhDdegreeprogrammeareemployedasPhD researchfellowsandwillbeexpectedtocarryoutdutiesequivalentto840working hours.AttheGraduateSchoolofTheologyandtheStudyofReligionthesewill usuallybeintheformofatleasttwoteachingactivitiesoftwohoursperweek,oneof whichpreferablywithinthePhDstudentsresearcharea.Theprincipalsupervisoris expectedtotakeanactivepartinthePhDstudentsplanningandevaluationofthe teachingactivities.TheprincipalsupervisorisalsorecommendedtoattendthePhD studentsteachingsessions. Inadditiontothetwoteachingactivities,thetaskstobeundertakenincludeother formsofcommunicatingknowledge,suchascontributingwitheditorialworkor arranginganacademicconference. PhDstudentswithoutascholarship/fellowshiparerequiredtoacquireexperiencein teachingorotherformsofcommunicatingknowledge. 13

4.4 ThePhDproject
InthecourseofthePhDdegreeprogramme,thePhDstudentsmustcompletean independentresearchprojectundersupervision(PhDproject).ThePhDproject shouldformthebasisofthePhDdissertation. ThePhDstudentshaveobtainedapprovaloftheirprojectoutline(4yeardual MA/PhD)orpreliminaryprojectdescription(3yearPhD)onenrolment.Thefinal projectdescriptionsaretobeapprovedbythePhDCommittee. Theprojectdescriptionsshouldbecontinuouslyrevisedtosupportthecompletionof thePhDprojectandsubmissionofadissertationattheendoftheenrolmentperiod. 4.4.1 4yeardualMA/PhD(4+4)

PhDstudentsenrolledonthe4yeardualMA/PhDdegreeprogrammemustprepare afinalprojectdescriptionforsubmissiontotheFacultySecretariatbytheendofthe firstyearofstudy.Inthefinalprojectdescription,itmustbestatedwhetherthe dissertationwillbepublishedasamonographorintheformofarticles. 4.4.2 3yearPhD(5+3)

PhDstudentsunderthe3yearPhDdegreeprogrammemustsubmitafinalproject descriptiontogetherwiththefirstsemiannualevaluationbytheendofthefirstsix monthsofenrolment.Inthefinalprojectdescription,itmustbestatedwhetherthe dissertationwillbepublishedasamonographorintheformofarticles.

5 CompletionofthePhDdegreeprogramme
5.1 PhDplan
ThePhDstudentmustsubmitaresearchandstudyplan(PhDplan)nolaterthan threemonthsafterenrolment.ThisplanisacentraldocumentofaPhDprogramme andmustcontainthefollowingelements: Timeschedule ThePhDplanmustincludeanupdatedlist,dividedintosemesters,ofallmajor activities,i.e.courses,teachinganddisseminationactivities,periodofstudyat externalresearchenvironmentandtheworkwiththePhDproject.Activities shouldbedescribedindetailfortheimmediatelyfollowingsemestersandin 14

outlineforthesubsequentsemesters.FormsforpreparationofPhDplansare availableontheGraduateSchoolwebsite. PlanforthePhDproject ThePhDplanmustspecifywhichtimeperiodshavebeenallottedfortheworkon thePhDproject,includingwhenandhowtheworkonthePhDdissertationwill beundertaken.Thefinalyearofthedegreeprogrammeisdevotedtofulltime workonthedissertation. PlanforPhDcourses ThePhDplanmustspecifytheexactdatesforattendingthecompulsorycourses. Itmustalsoincludeaspecificationoftheplannedelectivecourses,e.g.course title,durationand,ifpossible,ECTS.Inaddition,itmuststatepreciselyhowthe 30ECTSareexpectedtobedistributedontheindividualsemesters. Studentsonthe4yeardualMA/PhDprogrammemuststateintheirPhDplan whentheyexpecttopasstheremainingMastersdegreeexaminationstoavalue of30ECTS. Itisrecommendedtotakeallcoursesbeforethebeginningofthefinalyearof studies. Planforparticipationinsupportiveresearchenvironments,includingperiods ofstudyatresearchinstitutionsabroad ThePhDplanmustspecifywhenalongtermperiodofstudyabroadisexpected tobespent,includingnameofinstitution,timeperiodandcontactperson.Ifthe PhDstudenthasnoplanstospendaperiodofstudyabroad,thismustbe justifiedinthePhDplan,anditmustbestatedhowtherequirementinthePhD ordertoparticipateinanexternalresearchenvironmentisexpectedtobemet. Aperiodofstudyabroadshouldbescheduledforthethirdorfourthsemester.It isrecommendedthat4yeardualMA/PhDstudentsscheduletheirperiodof studyabroadforPartB. Planforacquisitionofteachingexperienceorotherformsofcommunicating knowledge ThePhDplanmustcontaininformationaboutplannedteachingand disseminationactivities.PhDstudentsonthe3yearprogrammeshouldschedule 15

teachingactivitiesforthesecondandthirdsemestersandnotlaterthanthefourth semester.PhDstudentsonthe4yeardualMA/PhDprogrammeshouldschedule ateachingtrainingactivityforthesecondorthirdsemesterofPartA.The teachingactivityduringPartBshouldnotbescheduledforlaterthanthesixth semester. Supervisionagreement ThetypeofsupervisionispartofthePhDplan.ItisapriorityoftheGraduate Schooltoclarifymutualexpectationsandresponsibilitiesrightfromthestartof thePhDcourseofstudy.Aspecialagreementformmustbecompletedand signedatthefirstmeetingbetweentheprincipalsupervisorandthePhDstudent. Theformmustsubsequently,andnotlaterthanonemonthafterenrolment,be submittedtotheFacultySecretariat.TheformisavailableontheGraduateSchool website(AgreementbetweentheprincipalsupervisorandthePhDstudent). SeealsotheGraduateSchoolsGuidelinesforPhDsupervision. Acopyrightagreement,ifapplicable InconnectionwithjointlyauthoredPhDprojects,firmagreementmustbe reachedbeforethestartoftheprojectonwhoownstherightstodataandauthors copyright. 5.2 Sectionattachment
AllPhDstudentsareattachedtooneoftheFacultysectionsandparticipateinthe sectionsresearchseminars,sectionmeetingsandotheracademicevents.Visitthe Facultywebsiteatwww.teo.au.dk/en/research/currentformoreinformationabout facultysections,researchactivitiesandcentres. ThePhDstudentbecomesincorporatedintothesectionsacademicenvironmentand theHeadofSectionwillinvitenewPhDstudentstoaninformalmeetingtointroduce themtothesectionandtooutlinethesectionsexpectationsofthePhDstudent.

5.3 Semiannualevaluations
TheHeadofGraduateSchoolmustregularlyevaluatewhetherthePhDstudent followshisorherplanand,ifnecessary,adjusttheplan.Theevaluationisbasedona statementmadebytheprincipalsupervisor,who,inconsultationwiththePhD student,confirmsthatthePhDprojectisprogressinginaccordancewiththePhD planorrecommends,inwriting,theadjustmentsrequired.Theevaluationmusttake intoaccountdocumentedillness,parentalleaveorotherformsofapprovedleave.It istheresponsibilityoftheprincipalsupervisortoprovideanaccurateevaluationand toraiseanyproblemsinconnectionwiththeprojectasearlyaspossible.Alistof activitiesundertakenduringthePhDcourseofstudiesshouldbesubmittedtogether withthesemiannualevaluation. 5.3.1 Procedureforperformingsemiannualevaluations

TheFacultySecretariatwillsendanemailtothePhDstudentandprincipal supervisorwhenitistimeforsubmissionofthesemiannualevaluation.Thestudent mustthentakestepstoimplementthesemiannualevaluation.Itisthusthe responsibilityofthestudenttoinformtheprincipalsupervisorofthedatesfor supervisionmeetingsheldinthereportingperiodandtoprepareanactivity overviewofthereportingperiod,whichmustbesubmittedasanappendixtothe semiannualevaluation.Thepurposeofthesemiannualevaluationistotakestockof theprogressoftheprojectandtomakethenecessaryadjustmentsinthePhDplanto assistthefutureprogress.TheprincipalsupervisorandthePhDstudentareexpected todiscussthecontentofthesemiannualevaluation.Thesemiannualevaluationis 17

signedbytheprincipalsupervisorandthePhDstudent,whobyhisorhersignature acceptsthecontentofthesemiannualevaluation.Priortosigningthesemiannual evaluation,thePhDstudentmustbegiventheopportunity,withinadeadlineofat leasttwoweeks,tocommentontheprincipalsupervisorsstatement. Thesignedsemiannualevaluationandtheactivityoverviewmustbeforwardedto theFacultySecretariattogetherwitharevisedPhDplan,ifamended. ThesemiannualevaluationwillsubsequentlybeconsideredbythePhDcommittee, andtheHeadofGraduateSchoolwillmakeadecisiononwhetherthesemiannual evaluationcanbeapproved.TheprincipalsupervisorandthePhDstudentare notifiedbymailofthedecision. If,however,thePhDstudentdoesnotapproveofthecontentofthesemiannual evaluation,heorsheshouldnotsignthesemiannualevaluationbutrathersubmita statementtotheHeadofGraduateSchool,givingthereasonsfordisapproval.The HeadofGraduateSchoolthenasksforadetailedexplanationbytheprincipal supervisor,andthematterissubmittedtothePhDCommittee.TheHeadof GraduateSchoolconcludeswhetherthesemiannualevaluationcanbeapproved. Atthethirdsemiannualevaluationofthe4yeardualMA/PhDstudents,the principalsupervisormustsubmitadetailedstatementontheprogressofthePhD project.Thestudentandtheprincipalsupervisorwillsubsequentlybeinvitedto attendaninterviewwiththeHeadofGraduateSchool,thepurposeofwhichisto clarifywhetherthestudentshouldberecommendedtoregisterforthequalifying examination. 5.3.3 Procedureforunfavourablesemiannualevaluations

IftheprincipalsupervisorassessesthatthePhDstudentisnotfollowingthePhD plan,inspiteofanyadjustmentsmadetotheplan,theprincipalsupervisor(and,if applicable,cosupervisor)willprepareastatementspecifyingwhatthestudentneeds todotogetbackoncourse.ThestatementmustbesubmittedtothePhDCommittee togetherwithanupdatedPhDplan,ifrevised.IfthePhDCommitteeagreeswiththe principalsupervisorsassessment,theHeadofGraduateSchoolwillallowthePhD 18

studentaperiodofthreemonthstocomplywiththeprincipalsupervisorsspecific requirements.ThesethreemonthsmustnotinitselfleadtoanextensionofthePhD degreeprogramme.IfthePhDstudentdoesnot,withineightdaysfromreceiptofthe offer,accepttheopportunitytogetbackoncourse,hisorherenrolmentwillbe cancelled. IfthePhDstudentacceptstheofferofrectification,theprincipalsupervisor(and,if applicable,cosupervisor)willassoonaspossibleaftertheendofthethreemonth periodassesswhetherthePhDstudenthasfulfilledtherequirementsandis followingtheplan.Ifthisassessmentisunfavourable,thePhDstudentsenrolment willbecancelled.Iftheassessmentisfavourable,thePhDstudentmayproceedwith hisorherprogramme,andthecourseofstudywillbereassessedatthenext ordinarysemiannualevaluation. 5.4 Qualifyingexaminationandhalfwayreport
5.4.1 Qualifyingexaminationapplicabletothe4yeardualMA/PhDprogramme Onthe4yeardualMA/PhDdegreeprogramme,PhDstudentswillbeexpectedto completetheMastersdegreeprogrammeaftertwoyearsofenrolment.TheMasters degreeprogrammefor4yeardualMA/PhDstudentsendswithaqualifying examination. Thebasisofthequalifyingexaminationisanacademicreportformingawhole, whichmustcontainthefollowingelements: Asectionontheacademicprogression(35pages) Anacademicsection(min.25pages)containing,forexample,oneormore draftchapterstothePhDdissertation,otheracademicmanuscripts(e.g. conferencepapersorworkingpapers)orapluralityofinterrelatedacademic manuscripts. TheacademicreportmustbewritteninDanish,EnglishorGermanandcontainalist ofessential/keyliteraturereferencesandasummaryof12pages.Ifthereportis writteninDanish,thesummarymustbeinEnglish.IfthereportiswritteninEnglish 19

orGerman,thesummarymustbeinDanish.Attachedtothereportmustbealistof approvedReadingsofworks. Theacademicreportmustnotexceed35pages(max.84,000characters),including summaryandexcludingliteraturereferences). Bypassingthequalifyingexamination,thePhDstudentacquirestheMastersdegree andcanproceedtoPartBofthedegreeprogramme,providedthatheorshehas receivedafavourablesemiannualevaluationno.4. ThescholarshipexpiresattheendofthemonthinwhichthePhDstudentobtainsthe Mastersdegree,andheorshewillthefollowingmonthbeemployedasaPhD researchfellowduringPartB. Studentsenrolledonthe4yeardualMA/PhDdegreeprogramme,whodonotwish tocontinuetoPartB,completetheirMastersdegreebywritingaMastersthesisin accordancewiththerulesintheappropriateacademicregulations. Atthehalfwaystageofthecourseofstudy,ahalfwayevaluationisheld.The purposeofthisevaluationistogivethePhDcommitteetheopportunitytoascertain thattheworkonthePhDdissertationisprogressingsatisfactorily.Thecommittee thereforeneedsahalfwayreportcontainingthefollowingelements: Acommentedpreliminarytableofcontentswithpagenumbersforthemain sections Atimescheduleforthecompletionofthedissertation Atotalplanofpublication(includingnamesofjournals)ifthedissertationis submittedintheformofarticles.

Thehalfwayreportmustnotexceed45pages.ThePhDstudentandtheprincipal supervisormaybeinvitedtoattendthePhDCommitteesdiscussionofthehalfway report. PhDstudentsenrolledonthe4yearprogrammemustsubmitthehalfwayreport togetherwiththefifthsemiannualevaluation. 20

5.5 Parttimeenrolment
ThePhDdegreeprogrammeisplannedforfulltimestudybutmayalsobestudied parttime,inwhichcasepriorapplicationtotheHeadofGraduateSchoolisrequired. Arecommendationfromtheprincipalsupervisormustbeattachedtotheapplication forparttimestudy.Enrolmentmustbeonatleastahalftimebasis.Forstudents enrolledonthe4yearprogramme,parttimestudyisonlypossibleaftercompleting theMastersdegree.

5.6 Applicationforleaveofabsence
5.6.1 Pregnancy,parentalleaveandillness AccordingtothecollectiveagreementoftheDanishConfederationofProfessional Associationsandotherrules,PhDresearchfellowsareentitledtoleavefromthePhD degreeprogrammebecauseofpregnancy,parentalleaveandillness.PhDstudents enrolledonthe4yearprogrammeareentitledtoextragrantsaccordingtothe regulationsregardingstateeducationalgrantsduringthefirsttwoyears(partA). 5.6.2 Otherformsofleave

ThePhDdegreeprogrammeisdesignedasacoherentstudyprogrammeandother formsofleavefromthePhDdegreeprogrammewillonlybegrantedinexceptional circumstances.Applicationsforotherformsofleaveshouldbesubmittedtothe HeadofGraduateSchool,statingthereasonsfortheapplication.Astatementfrom theprincipalsupervisormustbeattachedtotheapplication.TheHeadofGraduate Schoolwilldecidewhetherornottogranttheleave. 5.6.3 Permissionforexternallypaidwork

ThePhDdegreeprogrammeisdesignedasafulltimestudy.RecipientsofPhD fellowshipsorPhDscholarshipsshouldapplyforpermissiontoundertakeoutside paidwork,statingthereasonsfortheapplication.Theapplication,togetherwitha statementfromtheprincipalsupervisor,shouldbesubmittedtotheHeadof GraduateSchool,whowillmakethedecision. 21

5.7 Credittransfer
CredittransfermaybeallowedforoneormorestudyelementsofthePhDdegree programmeifequivalentcourseshavebeensuccessfullycompletedelsewhere. ApplicationsforcredittransfermustbeapprovedbythePhDCommittee.

6 Supervision
6.1 Approvalandallocationofsupervisors
TheHeadofGraduateSchoolallocatessupervisorstoallPhDstudents.TheHeadof GraduateSchoolmay,onhisowninitiativeoruponapplicationbythePhDstudent, appointadditionalsupervisorsandreplacetheprincipalsupervisororadditional supervisors. Aprincipalsupervisorandacosupervisor(ifapplicable)areappointedforeachPhD student.TheprincipalsupervisorisresponsiblefortheoverallPhDdegree programme.TheprincipalsupervisormustbearecognisedscholarinthePhD studentsfieldofstudyandmustbeamemberoftheFacultyofTheologysacademic staff.CosupervisorsmustbeproficientinthefieldofstudytowhichthePhD studentsprojectbelongsandcanbeemployedelsewhere.Thecosupervisor providesacademicsupervisionofthePhDproject. Toassuretheprovisionofhighqualitysupervision,allprincipalsupervisorsinthe GraduateSchoolhavetoattendasupervisioncourse. TheHeadofGraduateSchoolappointsaprincipalsupervisorfortheentirePhD courseofstudy.InexceptionalcasesitispossibleforthePhDstudenttoreplacehis orhersupervisorduringthecourseofstudy.Thisusuallyoccursafterprevious agreementbetweenthePhDstudentandtheprevioussupervisorsandmust subsequentlybeapprovedbytheHeadofGraduateSchool.Incaseofdissatisfaction withthesupervisionbeingreceived,thePhDstudentmustfirstraisethematterwith hisorhersupervisorbeforecontactingtheHeadofGraduateSchool.Whenraisinga matterofdissatisfactionwithsupervisionwiththeHeadofGraduateSchool,thePhD studentisallowedtobringacompanion(e.g.tradeunionrepresentative,memberof PhDCommitteerepresentingthePhDstudents,orsomeoneelse)tothemeeting.The sameappliestodisputeresolutionmeetings betweentheprincipalsupervisorand PhDstudent. 22

6.2 ResponsibilitiesofsupervisorsandPhDstudents
6.2.1 Theresponsibilitiesofsupervisors TheprincipalsupervisorhastheoverallresponsibilityforthetotalPhDdegree programme,thetotalsupervision,preparationofsemiannualevaluations,etc. IfthePhDstudentspendstheentireperiodofPhDstudyorpartofthestudyoutside theinstitution,theprincipalsupervisormustconstantlybeinclosecontactwiththe externalinstitutionand/orplaceofwork. 7 PhDdissertation
7.1 PreparingandsubmittingthePhDdissertation
ThePhDdissertationshoulddocumenttheauthorsabilitytoapplyrelevant scholarlymethodologyandtocarryoutresearchworkmeetingtheinternational standardsforPhDdegreeswithinthefieldinquestion. Thedissertationmustdealwiththetexts,monuments,pictures,fieldstudiesorother dataincludedintheprojectdescriptioninanindependentwayandbyapplyingthe scholarlytheoriesandmethodologyapprovedbytherelevantsubject/discipline.The materialmustbeanalysedandinterpretedmethodically,andsecondaryliterature mustbeincludedanddiscussedtoareasonableextent.Thedissertationmustthus complywiththePhDordersrequirementstocarryoutresearchworkmeetingthe internationalstandardsforPhDdegreeswithinthefieldinquestion. On the other

hand, there are no requirements regarding the proposal of an original, independent thesis, or developing the methodology of the subject.
Materialtakenfromrelatedsubjectsanddisciplinesmustbehandledwithrespectfor thetheoriesandmethodologiesusedinthesedisciplines.Asfaraspossible,texts mustbereadintheiroriginallanguages,andanadequatedegreeofmasteryofthe relevantphilologiesmustbedemonstrated. TheGraduateSchoolhasdevelopedadissertationtemplate(MSWord),whichmust beusedwhenpreparingthedissertation.Ifanyabbreviationsareused,the dissertationmustcontainalistofthese.Detaileddocumentationshouldbereferred toinasuitablenumberofnotesandpetitparagraphs. ThedissertationcanbewritteninDanish,EnglishorGerman.However,studentsare recommendedtoconsiderwritingtheirdissertationsinEnglish.Thedissertation mustcontainsummariesinDanishandEnglish. ThePhDdissertationcaneitherbesubmittedintheformofarticleswithan introductorysummaryreportorasonecompletedissertation. Thefollowingrequirementsapplytothesubmissionofdissertationsintheformof articles: 24 Thedissertationmustconsistofminimumfourarticles,threeofwhich,atthe timeofsubmissionofthePhDdissertation,mustbeacceptedforpublication

Thearticlesmustbeorganisedinawellthoughtoutwayandbeginwitha summaryreportofbetween30and50standardpages. Ifthearticleshavebeenpreparedincollaborationwithothers,thedissertation mustbeaccompaniedbystatementsfromtheotherauthorsregardingthe extentofthePhDstudentswork

Thefollowingrequirementsapplytothesubmissionofdissertationsintheformof onecompletedissertation: Thedissertationmustnotexceed150250pages.BecauseofthePhDorders shortdeadlinefortheassessmentcommitteeswork,thetotalextentofthe dissertation(includingbibliography,appendices,etc.)mustnotexceed600,000 characters. Applicationsstatingreasonsforexceedingthislengthcan,inexceptional cases,beforwardedtotheHeadofGraduateSchool.

Adissertationmustnotbesubmittedforassessmentbytwoormoreauthorsjointly. ThedeadlineforsubmittingadissertationisthelastdayofthePhDenrolment period. Theauthorofthedissertationmustencloseastatementthatthedissertationinits currentformhasnotpreviouslybeenassessed. ThedissertationmustbesubmittedtotheFacultySecretariatinsevencopies. PracticalinformationregardingsubmissionofPhDdissertationsisavailableonthe GraduateSchoolwebsite.

7.2 Thefinalsupervisorstatement
Atthesametimeasthedissertationissubmittedforassessment,theprincipal supervisordeliversastatementregardingthePhDstudentsentirecourseofstudy. Thestatementshouldcontainanevaluatingreport,concludingwhethertheprincipal supervisorcanapprovethecourseofstudy.AnactivityoverviewofthePhD studentsactivitiesduringthedegreeprogrammemustbeattachedtotheprincipal 25

supervisorsstatement.ThisactivityoverviewmustbepreparedbythePhDstudent andsignedbytheprincipalsupervisor. ThedissertationcanonlybeassessedifthetotalPhDdegreeprogrammehasbeen completedsatisfactorily. IftheprincipalsupervisorsstatementreportsthatthePhDdegreeprogrammehas notbeencompletedsatisfactorily,theauthorwillbegivenatleasttwoweeksto commentontheprincipalsupervisorsstatement. Onthebasisoftheprincipalsupervisorsstatement,thePhDstudentscomments,if any,andthesubmittedsemiannualevaluations,theHeadofGraduateSchoolwill determinewhetherthePhDdegreeprogrammehasbeensatisfactorilycompleted.

7.3 SubmissionofPhDdissertationwithoutpriorenrolment
AccordingtothePhDorder,section15(2),PhDdissertationscanbesubmitted withoutpriorenrolment. ThefollowingprocedureshouldbefollowedwhensubmittingaPhDdissertation withoutpriorenrolment: ThedissertationmustbesubmittedtotheGraduateSchoolinonecopy.The dissertationmustbeaccompaniedby(a)astatementexplaininghowthe applicantinhisorheropinionmeetstherequirementsforaPhDcourseof studymentionedinthePhDorderand(b)documentationoftheactivities mentionedinthestatement.Thedissertationmustalsobeaccompaniedby(c) astatementbytheapplicantastowhetherthedissertationhaspreviously beensubmittedforassessmentand,ifso,where. Thedissertationwillbeevaluatedbyapersonwhohasexpertiseinthefieldof studyinordertoestimatewhetherthedissertationcanbeacceptedfor assessment.TheHeadofGraduateSchooldecideswhethertheapplicanthas acquiredqualificationscomparabletohavingcompletedaPhDdegree programmeattheGraduateSchoolofTheologyandtheStudyofReligion. Thedissertationmustbesubmittedinacertainformat.Adissertation template(MSWord)isavailableontheGraduateSchoolwebsite.

Ifthedissertationisacceptedforassessment,anassessmentcommitteewillbe appointedincompliancewiththecurrentrulesabouttheappointmentofassessment committees.

8 Assessmentofthedissertation
PriortothedeadlinedateforsubmissionofaPhDdissertation,theDeanappointsan expertassessmentcommitteeconsistingofthreemembers.Assessmentcommittee memberswillberecognisedresearchersintherelevantfieldofstudyandmustbeat theassociateprofessorlevelorabove.Twomembersmustbefromoutsidethe university,atleastoneofwhomfromoutsideDenmark,unlessthisisnotpracticable consideringthesubjectinquestion.Thethirdmemberisappointedamongthestaff oftheFacultyofTheologyandwillusuallybethechairmanofthecommittee.The PhDstudentssupervisorsarenotmembersoftheassessmentcommittee,butthe principalsupervisorisadvisortotheassessmentcommitteewithoutvotingrights, i.e.theprincipalsupervisorwillbeinvitedtoattendmeetingsoftheassessment committeeandwillreceivecopiesofcommitteecorrespondenceanddocuments relevanttotheassessment.Itshouldbementionedintheassessmentcommittees recommendationthattheprincipalsupervisorhasbeeninvolvedintheprocessasan advisorymember.

8.1 Procedureforappointmentofassessmentcommittee
Nolaterthanthreemonthspriortothesubmissionofthedissertation,theprincipal supervisorsendsaproposalregardingmembersoftheassessmentcommittee, accompaniedbyasummary(approx.A4page)totheFacultySecretariat.The proposalisdiscussedinthePhDCommitteeandtheDeansubsequentlyappointsthe assessmentcommitteeandthechairmanofthecommittee. Immediatelyaftertheappointmentoftheassessmentcommittee,theFacultynotifies theauthor,whohastheopportunity,withinadeadlineofatleasteightdays,to objecttothecompositionofthecommittee.

8.2 Theassessmentprocess
Thechairmanoftheassessmentcommitteewillmakethecommitteeacquaintedwith theproceduretobefollowedintheassessmentprocess.Thechairmanisresponsible forcoordinatingtheassessmentprocessandforensuringthatdeadlinesandother 27

formalitiesaremet.Itisalsotheresponsibilityofthechairmantoensurethequality ofthelanguageusedintherecommendationinordertoprovideabalancedtext.The HeadofGraduateSchoolisavailableforadviceandshouldbecontactedwithany queries.TheFacultySecretariatwillactasliaisonbetweentheassessmentcommittee andthePhDstudent. Itshouldbestatedinthepreliminaryrecommendationthattheassessment committeeisacquaintedwiththePhDOrder,theFacultyofTheologysregulations forthePhDdegreeprogrammeandtheprincipalsupervisorsfinalstatement.The preliminaryrecommendationshouldincludeabriefsummaryandacritical evaluationofthedissertation,statingclearlythegroundsonwhichtheassessment committeehasbaseditsevaluationandconclusion.Therecommendationshouldalso includethecommitteesdecisionastowhetherornotthedissertationmaybe publishedinwholeorinpart,ifrequiredinarevisedformorintranslation.The recommendationshouldbeamaximumof5pages.

8.3 Thepreliminaryassessmentofthedissertation
Withintwomonthsafterthesubmissionofthedissertation,theassessment committeewillmakeitsrecommendationastowhetherthedissertationfulfilsthe requirementsfortheawardofthePhDdegree.Therecommendationshouldbe reasonedand,intheeventofdisagreement,thedecisionofthemajoritywillprevail. Copyoftherecommendationwillbesenttotheauthorassoonaspossible. Theassessmentcommitteewillprovideareasonedrecommendationleadingtoone ofthefollowingconclusions: Thedissertationissuitableforpublicdefenceintheforminwhichithasbeen submitted Thedissertationisnotsuitableforpublicdefenceintheforminwhichithas beensubmitted,buttheassessmentcommitteeestimatesthat,inarevised form,thedissertationwillbesuitableforpublicdefence.Insuchcase,a deadlineforresubmissionmustbestatedintherecommendation.Theauthor andtheprincipalsupervisorshouldbegiventheopportunitytosubmittheir commentsontherecommendationwithinaperiodofatleasttwoweeks. Thedissertationisnotsuitableforpublicdefenceintheforminwhichithas beensubmitted,andtheassessmentcommitteeestimatesthatitisnotlikelyto

becomesowithinareasonabletime.Theauthorandtheprincipalsupervisor shouldbegiventheopportunitytosubmittheircommentsonthe recommendationwithinaperiodofatleasttwoweeks. Ifthedissertationisdeemedtobesuitableaccordingtotherecommendation,the publicdefencewillbeheld. If,however,thedissertationisdeemedtobenotsuitableaccordingtothe recommendation,theDeanwill,onthebasisoftheassessmentcommittees recommendationandthecommentssubmittedbytheauthorandtheprincipal supervisor,makeoneofthefollowingdecisions: Thepublicdefencewillnotbeheld ThePhDdissertationmayberesubmittedinarevisedformwithinadeadline ofatleastthreemonths.Ifthedissertationisresubmitted,itwillbeassessed bytheoriginalassessmentcommitteeunlessspecialcircumstancesapply ThePhDdissertationwillbereferredtoadifferentassessmentcommitteefor decision.

Thechairmanoftheassessmentcommitteemayallowminorchangestobemadeto thedissertationpriortothepublicdefence,provideditdoesnotdelaythedefence.

8.4 Publicdefence
Thedefencewillbeheld,attheearliest,twoweeksaftertheassessmentcommittee hasmadeitsrecommendationand,atthelatest,threemonthsaftersubmissionofthe PhDdissertation,unlessspecialcircumstancesapply.Thedateofthedefencewillbe decidedinagreementbetweenthechairmanoftheassessmentcommittee,thePhD studentandtheHeadofGraduateSchool. ThedefencewillbeannouncedontheGraduateSchoolwebsite,inCAMPUS(the Universitynewspaper)and,asfaraspossible,inotherrelevantmedia. TheFacultySecretariatmakessurethatthedissertationisavailableforsaleatthe FacultyandthatcopiesofitaresenttotheStateandUniversityLibrary,Aarhus;the RoyalLibrary,Copenhagen;theLibraryattheFacultyofTheology;theFacultyof Theology,UniversityofCopenhagen;theFacultyofHumanities,Universityof Copenhagen;andtheFacultyofHumanities,UniversityofSouthernDenmark. Finally,theFacultyofTheologyitselfkeepsacopyofthedissertation.The 29

dissertationwillbeavailableforpreorderfromtheFacultyEnquiryOfficenolater thanthreeweekspriortothedefence,andtheorderedcopiesofthedissertationwill, asfaraspossible,beavailablenolaterthantwoweekspriortothedefence. Allmembersoftheassessmentcommitteemustattendthepublicdefenceinperson orthroughvideoconferencing,unlessexceptionalcircumstancesmakethis impossible. ThepublicdefenceischairedbytheHeadofGraduateSchool(oradeputyappointed bytheDean)andshouldnotlastmorethanthreehours,includingabreakinthe middle.Followingabriefintroductionbythechairofthepublicdefence proceedings,thePhDstudentisgiventheopportunitytoexplainhisorherresearch. Thedurationofthepresentationmustnotexceed30minutes. ThePhDstudentwillthenbeexaminedbythemembersoftheassessment committee.Thisexaminationshouldbeintheformofacriticaldialoguebetweenthe assessmentcommitteeandthePhDstudent.Themembersoftheassessment committeearethusnotexpectedtolecturebutrathertofocusoncentral,orselected, issuesorthemesraisedinthedissertation.Committeemembersagreeamong themselvestheorderoftheircontributions;thechairmanofthecommittee,however, usuallyspeakslast. ThedurationoftheassessmentcommitteesexaminationincludingthePhD studentsresponsesmustnotexceed90minutes. Thechairofthepublicdefenceproceedingsmayallowothersthanmembersofthe assessmentcommitteetomakeacontribution,providednoticehasbeengivenprior tothebeginningofthedefence.Suchcontributionscanbescheduledforafterabreak inthemiddleoftheproceedingsandmustnotlastmorethan30minutesintotal. Attheconclusionofthedefence,theassessmentcommitteewillwithdrawbrieflyto confertogetherastowhetherthedefencewassatisfactory.Followingthis,the chairmanoftheassessmentcommitteemakesanoralstatementtotheaudienceon whetherornotthecommitteeintendstorecommendtotheFacultyofTheologythat thePhDdegreeshouldbeawarded. Thenthechairofthepublicdefenceclosestheproceedings.

9 AwardofthePhDdegree
Assoonaspossibleandnotlaterthanfourteendaysafterthedefence,theassessment committeewillsubmitarecommendationinwritingastowhethertherequirements forthedissertationandthedefencehavebeensatisfied. Iftheassessmentcommitteesrecommendationisunfavourable,theAcademy Councilmaydecide,uponrequestoftheauthorwithinaperiodofatleastoneweek, thatthePhDdissertationwillbereferredtoadifferentassessmentcommitteefor decision. TheAcademyCouncilawardsthedegreeiftwomembersoftheassessment committeerecommendthatthePhDdegreeshouldbeawarded. TheFacultyofTheologysubsequentlyissuesaPhDdiplomawiththetextinDanish andEnglish PhDstudentswhodonothavetheirdegreeconferredcanrequesttheFacultyof TheologytoissuedocumentationinDanishandEnglishforthosepartsofthePhD degreeprogrammethatwerecompletedsatisfactorily.

10 Complaints
Complaintsconcerningmatterscoveredbytheseregulationsmaybesubmittedtothe DeanoftheFacultyofTheology. TheDeanoftheFacultyofTheologyhasthepower,inexceptionalcases,topermit exemptionfromthoserulesthathaveexclusivelybeendeterminedbytheFaculty. TheDeansdecisionsmaybereferredtotheDanishUniversityandPropertyAgency ifthecomplaintconcernslegalissues.ComplaintsmustbesubmittedtotheFaculty withintwoweeksfromthedaythedecisionisnotifiedtothecomplainant.The Facultymakesastatement,whichthecomplainantshouldbegiventheopportunity tocommentonwithinaperiodofatleastoneweek.TheFacultyforwardsthe complainttotheAgency,enclosingtheFacultysstatementandcommentsfromthe complainant. AnauthorwhohasnotcompletedaPhDdegreeprogrammeisonlyentitledtomake acomplaintifhisorherdissertationhasbeenacceptedforassessment,cf.thePhD order,section15(2). 31

11 Commencementandtransitionalregulations
Theseregulationstakeeffecton1February2008. PhDstudentswhohavecommencedaPhDdegreeprogrammebefore1February 2008areentitledtocompletetheirdegreeprogrammeaccordingtoMinisterialOrder No.114of8March2002onthePhDProgrammeandthePhDdegree,butthe assessmentandpublicdefenceofthedissertationandthedecisionastowhetherto awardthePhDdegreewillbeaccordingtotheaboveregulationsandtheregulations inMinisterialOrderonthePhDProgrammeattheUniversitiesNo.18of14January 2008(PhDorder).
