Thai IndustriaI Standard
For
CoId roIIed steeI coiI strip and sheet for automobiIes uses
TIS 2140-2546 (2003)
1. Scope
1.1 This standard specifies types, types of edge, grades and symbol, basic mass,
dimension and tolerances, chemical composition, requirements, marking and labeling,
sampling and criteria for conformity and testing for cold rolled steel coil strip and sheet
to be used for automobile frames and parts.
1.2 This standard does not cover cold rolled steel coil strip and sheet for other purposes
which have been specified by the particular standard, or comply to any standard which
specified the requirements different from this standard for such product.
2. Definitions
For the purpose of this standard, the following definitions apply:
2.1 cold rolled steel coil strip and sheet for automobile uses which shall be referred to
hereinafter as "cold rolled steel : carbon steel or low alloy steel having mechanical
properties as specified in table 10 or table 11 and table 12, and obtained by cold
reducing to the required sheet thickness but may be supplied annealing, then skin
pass or temper rolling may also be applied.
2.2 cold rolled steel coil which shall be referred to hereinafter as "steel coil " : cold rolled
steel in coil form.
2.3 cold rolled steel strip which shall be referred to hereinafter as "steel strip" : steel coil
which is commonly made in cut length.
2.4 cold rolled steel sheet which shall be referred to hereinafter as "steel sheet : steel coil
or strip which is normally slit from wide sheet and will be considered as sheet.
2.5 skin pass : cold rolling and annealed sheet, the purpose of skin pass is one or more of
the following : to control shape, hardness, flatness, surface finish and to temporarily
minimize the appearance of stretcher strains or coil breaks.
2.6 mill edge : edge of steel generated by cold rolling as it is, not to be cut and possibly
containing some irregularities such as cracked or torn edges or thin edges.
2.7 cut edge : edge of steel generated by cutting after cold rolling.
2.8 plastic strain ratio : true strain along the width of test piece to true strain along the
thickness of test piece ratio when applied a specified tensile force.
3. Types, types of edge, grade and symboIs
3.1 Cold rolled steel shall be classified into 3 types as follows:
3.1.1 Steel coil
3.1.2 Steel strip
3.1.3 Steel sheet.
3.2 Cold rolled steel shall be classified according to types of edge into 2 types as follows:

5. Requirements
5.1 Appearance
5.1.1 Cold rolled steel shall be free from such defects as hole, lamination that
are detrimental to practical use. Provisions on defects other than hole and
lamination, however, shall generally be applied to one side of the surface
of the cold rolled steel.
5.1.2 For the unoiled cold rolled steel, the rust shall not be regarded as
detrimental defects.
Compliance is checked by visual inspection
5.2 Mechanical properties
5.2.1 Tensile strength and elongation
shall be as given in Table 10. As for restricted tensile strength and elongation shall
be as given in Table 11.
The test method shall be as specified in JS Z 2241, and the test piece as shown
in Figure 1 shall be prepared.
5.2.2 Bake hardening amount
shall be as given in Table 10. As for restricted bake hardening amount shall be as
given in Table 11.
The test method shall be as specified in Annex of JS G 3135 , and the test piece
as shown in Figure 1 shall be prepared

A
F - F
Where
BH
is bake hardening amount (N/mm
2
).
F
SA
is strain aging yield load measured from bake hardening cold rolled
steel. And derived from Figure 2.(N)
F
WH
is preliminary strain load measured from unbake hardening cold rolled
steel when total elongation is 2%. And derived from figure 3.(N)
A
O
is test piece parallel portion area before testing (mm
