he Good Shepherd not only knows us but has given his life for us. We belong to the Shepherd. His life is the source of our life. One part of this relationship is firmGods part. The Father has entrusted us to the Son, and the Son will not let go of our hand. The other part of this relationship depends on us, of course. In todays Gospel, Jesus assumes our open-hearted good will. My sheep hear my voice . . . and they follow me. This hearing and following is a daily undertaking that implies responsibility. Take Paul and Barnabas, for example. They moved ever closer to the reality that salvation was also meant for those members of the flock who did not yet know Gods saving power. The Gentiles were the sheep known by the Shepherd. Paul could finally see that now was the acceptable time for them to know the Shepherd. Now the circle could be completed. Finally, those who were known and loved by the God of Jesus could know and follow the God of Jesus. There will never be a last chapter to this story of salvation.

From the Pastors Desk In this weekends Gospel, Christ introduces Himself as the Good Shepherd and assures us that He knows his flock. Further, he promises that he will not let anyone take the flock away from Him and His Father with whom He is joined for all time. The image of the Good Shepherd is a symbol and a calling to unity. The First reading is an example of that also, because it tells us of the early days of Christ there were differences and disunity. People were divided in the presence of Christ, even as He came to bring people peace and unity. In the Act of Devotion to the Sacred Heart which we pray on First Fridays, we ask there may be but one flock and one Shepherd Using these words may be pray today for unity in our families, in our church, in our country, and all of the Earth. I thank those who worked hard to make our Rummage Sale so successful and all those who participated by donating and buying. Through the Rummage Sale we helped many people and also our Church by raising $3,869 which will be put forward on our Church Renovation Fund. I would like to thank the Czestochowa Group for organizing the Easter Dinner last Sunday as another fund raiser and all who participated. The profit of Swieconka was $2,000 and was given to the Church Renovation Fund. Please pray for the children in our parish who will receive their First Communion this coming Saturday and for their families so this celebration will bring them closer to God and one another. Fr. Rich Respect Life
It is wondrous enough that someone rose from the dead by his own power. But the Lord Jesus, in rising from the dead, does not just conquer his death; he conquers ours. He overturns the entire kingdom of death. The entire ministry of the Church is focused on bringing us and all humanity the eternal life that flows from Christ and his Resurrection. This is the sense in which he is the Good Shepherd. Not only does he keep us from danger in this life; he shepherds us through death itself to the life that knows no end.
Congratulations to Deacon William and Darlene Lehman on their 25th Wedding Anniversary on April 30th!
