OVERVIEW The Diploma in Child Health (DCH) is a one year postgraduate course. The objectives are to provide a goal-directed learning program in a wide range of aspects of child health for medical graduates whose practice may involve childrens health. The course is co-ordinated at the Womens and Childrens Hospital, North Adelaide. ENROLMENT REQUIREMENTS An MBBS or equivalent Documented evidence of some undergraduate or post graduate paediatric experience. (This can be gained during 2012) OBJECTIVES The objectives of the DCH course are to: Develop knowledge, skills and attitudes suitable for independent practice appropriate to the provision of primary health care for children. Provide a learning program for development of knowledge relevant to common and important health requirements for children. Assess skills appropriate to the provision of health care for children. Develop an appreciation of resources available for providing health services for children. COURSE CONTENT Topics Include: normal growth and development in childhood paediatric emergencies common minor disorders and variations from normal health in childhood acute illness in children chronic disease in children family and societal requirements for the optimal health and care of children

COURSE DELIVERY The DCH is offered in 2 study modes: 1. ONSITE PARTICIPANTS attend a two-hour seminar, held each Wednesday evening from 6.00pm-8.00pm from March until September. 2. DISTANCE EDUCATION PARTICIPANTS must have access to a Broadband Internet Connection and access weekly learning materials. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA Minimum 75% attendance of the weekly seminar program (Onsite Participants Only). Successful completion of a Paediatric Life Support Course (PLS) or submission of a current PLS Certificate or an approved equivalent. Successful completion of the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) ASSESSMENT Written Research Project Proposal (30%) Oral Project Proposal Presentation** (10%) Online Multiple Choice Examination (60%) Successful completion of PLS Course Successful completion of NRP program **Distance students submit the Project Presentation online. DIPLOMA On successful completion of all the course requirements, candidates will be awarded the Diploma in Child Health (DCH). GPs will then qualify for 90 (Group 1) accreditation points. PAEDIATRIC LIFE SUPPORT COURSE PLS courses will be run by WCH in 2012 for those students wishing to complete the certificate on campus. Alternatively, you can choose not to enrol in the WCH based sessions and as such will be responsible for locating and booking an independent PLS course of your choosing. If you already hold a current PLS Certificate you will be required to submit a copy along with your online application.

NEONATAL RESUSCITATION PROGRAM To receive a certificate of completion of the program, participants must complete the online NRP program successfully. Onsite participants must attend a skills practice and competency testing session in the skills room on the 4th floor of the Queen Victoria Building on the first Wednesday of every month, and the advanced neonatal life support session conducted by Andy McPhee on the third Wednesday of every month. Distance participants only need to complete online program successfully. FEES SCHEDULE COURSE FEES are dependant on the chosen study mode. Payments are made in 3 stages: 3. A non refundable Deposit is made on enrolment to secure your place in the course. 4. Half course fee balance is charged for Semester 1. 5. The remaining balance is charged for Semester 2.
