Sizes: X-small (newborn) – 14”

Small (6 to 12 months) – 16”
Medium (2 to 4 years) – 17 ½”
Large (6 to 10 years) – 19”
X-large (12 to adult) – 21”

MATERIALS
Worsted weight yarn,
Red - 2(2-2-3-3) ounces
Green – small amount
Brown – small amount
Crochet hook, size J (6.00 mm) or size needed
to obtain gauge
Yarn needle

Gauge: Working in the round, 8 sc and 8 rnds = 2”

Size Note: Instructions are written for size X-small with sizes for Small, Medium,
Large and X-large in parentheses. Instructions will be easier to read, if you circle all the
numbers pertaining to your size. If only one number is given, it applies to all sizes.

STEM
With Brown, ch 2.
Rnd 1: 4 Sc in second ch from hook, do not join, do not turn: 4 sc.
Rnd 2: Working in Front Loops Only, sc in each sc around.
Repeat Rnd 2 until Stem measures approximately 1”.

CROWN
Rnd 1: With Red and working in Front Loops Only, work 2 sc in each of next 3 sc, sc in
last sc, do not join, do not turn; place marker to mark beginning of rnd, moving it after
each round is complete: 7 sc.
Rnd 2: Working in both loops of sc through out remainder of pattern, work 2 sc in each
sc around, reposition marker: 14 sc.
Rnd 3: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, reposition marker: 21 sc.
Rnd 4: (Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, reposition marker: 28 sc.
Rnd 5: (Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, reposition marker: 35 sc.
Rnd 6: (Sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, reposition marker: 42 sc.
Rnd 7: (Sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, reposition marker: 49 sc.
Rnd 8: (Sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, reposition marker: 56 sc.
For size X-small skip Rnds 9, 10, 11, and 12 of Hat.

FOR SIZES (Small, Medium, Large, and X-large) ONLY

Rnd 9: (Sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, reposition marker: 63 sc.
For size Small skip Rnds 10, 11, and 12 of Hat.
FOR SIZES (Medium, Large, and X-large) ONLY
Rnd 10: (Sc in next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, reposition marker: 70 sc.
For size Medium skip Rnds 11 and 12 of Hat.

FOR SIZES (Large, and X-large) ONLY

Rnd 11: (Sc in next 9 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, reposition marker: 77 sc.
For size Large skip Rnd 12 of Hat.

FOR SIZE (X-large) ONLY

Rnd 12: (Sc in next 10 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, reposition marker: 84 sc.

BODY
FOR ALL SIZES
Rnd 1: Sc in each sc around, reposition marker: 56(63-70-77-84) sc.
Repeat Rnd 1 until Hat measures approximately 6(7-8-9-10)” from base of Stem.
Last Rnd: * Sc in next 6(7-8-9-10) sc, decrease; repeat from * around; join with slip st to
next sc, finish off: 49(56-63-70-77) sc.
Weave in all yarn ends.

LEAF
With Green, ch 2.
Row 1: 3 Sc in second ch from hook: 3 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in first sc, work dc around the post of next sc, 2 sc in last sc: 5
sts.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn; sc in each st across: 5 sc.
Row 4: Ch 1, turn; sc in first 2 sc, work dc around the post of dc 2 rows below next sc, sc
in last 2 sc: 5 sts.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn; decrease, sc in next dc, decrease: 3 sc.
Row 6: Pull up a loop in first sc, dc around post of dc 2 rows below next sc, pull up a
loop in last sc, draw through all 3 loops on hook, finish off leaving a long end for
attaching Leaf to base of Stem.
