Sibiu International Theatre Festival Membership

CITIES ON STAGE is an association of theatres working together on an international basis

involving the citizens of each city, in order to create a new and lively European repertoire closely linked to the challenges and changes faced by an evolving and mutating continent. This project has been funded with support from the European Commission, through the Culture programme 20072013. The partners in this programme also want to reinforce the links between artistic creation and citizenship on one hand, by involving a significant number of citizens in the creative processes, and on the other by giving a decisive say to minority groups and letting their views resonate with the inhabitants of other cities. CITIES ON STAGE includes six theatres: Thtre National de la Communaut Franaise de Blgique (Belgium), Odon-Thtre de l'Europe (France), Teatro Stabile di Napoli (Italy), FolkTeatern Goteborg (Sweden), Teatro de la Abadia (Spain) and Teatrul National Radu Stanca Sibiu (Romania).

IFEA Europe: was founded in Rotterdam as an affiliate with IFEA World, which counts 3 000
membres worldwide. With its main goal of expanding knowledge of event organisation, IFEA promotes co-operation between festivals and events. Its chairman, Paul van Gessel, strongly believes in the merits of independent organisation, as the membres exchange knowledge, find inspiration, friendship and support for the dynamic work of organising festivals and events.

IETM Informal European Theatre Meeting: IETM was founded in 1980 and is a place for
reflection and exchange, it is a place for getting to know colleagues, for sharing problems and issues of common concern. For the last 14 years, IETM has committed to encouraging collaboration and exchange between professionals and artists in Eastern Europe and Western Europe, alike.

IITM The International Institute of Mediterranean Theatre: IITM aims at the creation of cultural
spaces and dialogue building among Mediterranean people. Theatre is seen as a social and artistic mean, beyond its strictly professional sense. Along the years, IITM has consolidated 24 associations or project centres.

UNEECC The University Network of the European Capitals of Culture is a unique academic
network and its member universities are all located in cities which have been, are or will be European Capitals of Culture. As such, UNEECC not only aspires to stimulate regular academic cooperation between its members, but also aims at developing and reshaping the universities regional position. UNEECC includes institutions with a long-standing tradition as well as recently founded universities. They all share a true vocation in the development of a more outspoken European dimension in their research and education and the engagement to join up forces with local authorities to strengthen the impact of the European Capitals of Culture on the cultural environment.

European Capitals of Culture Network: The European Capitals of Culture are a clear
illustration of the EUs commitment to cultural diversity, but also of how culture can unite people within Europe. They are the proof that culture has a major role to play at the heart of our policies of sustainable development, because they are part of the long term development of European cities and their regions, as well as a source of stimulus for dynamism, creativity, but also social inclusion.

ALTER: was born from the collaboration of independent international theatre festivals for a
common project responding to the need of innovation and exchange, surpassing linguistic, artistic and geographical barriers. The membre festivals from Germany, Italy, France, the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Hungary, Poland and Romania show particular interest in young companies, experimentation, research for new languages, author projects, artistic mobility, associations from different fields of the performing arts, all in a multidisciplinary approach.

EUNETSTAR: is a network of eight openair and street festivals from Belgium, the United
Kingdom, The Netherlands, Germany, France, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. Their aim is to develop a European network for co-operation, research, theoretical and practical experience exchange between artists and performances and to promote and renew street art (street and openair theatre, installations, dance performances, multimedia events etc.).

Europe Arts is an association which aims at stimulating, encouraging and supporting artists,
authors, theatre directors, street theatre and circus, in a direct relationship with audiences belonging to other cultures or speaking other languages than that of the performance. Europe Arts subsequently contributes to the production of European performances, to their promotion on the continent and fundraising activities. It is a political project which focuses on multiculturalism and plurilingvism, in respect of cultural diversity, aiming to promote the European cultural exception against the essential American hegemony. Europe Arts is associated with the International Consultancy Department in Arts Management for activities outside Europe.

ACTIV5 Theatre Project: the network was founded during the 1996 SITF edition and it
focuses on promoting and facilitating the organisation and exchange of theatre projects. The partner states are: SUA (Blue Ridge Theatre Festival, Virginia Commonwealth University, Christopher Newport University), Romania (Sibiu International Theatre Festival), Hungary (Merlin International Festival), Macedonia (MOT International Theatre Festival), Moldova (Eugen Ionescu Festival).
