Certified teachers will serve as instructional facilitators and implement high quality, researched-based strategies and interventions to assist with the academic development of our targeted 2nd grade students. They will be responsible for creating and executing engaging and effective lessons, closely monitoring student progress by utilizing various forms of formative and summative assessment measures, generating and distributing weekly progress reports to students and parents. Weekly progress will be monitored closely and necessary instructional adjustments will be made in a timely manner to help ensure academic progress/growth. Instructional Facilitators will also participate in weekly collaborative planning sessions to share best practices, analyze student data (quantitative & qualitative), and plan instructional lessons for the following week. The Summer Transition Program director will be responsible for seeing to the day-to-day operations of the program. These duties will include analyzing instructional lessons plans submitted by classroom teachers and providing the necessary feedback, ensuring that all of the necessary documentation is submitted on time to the proper Central Office and/or Department of Public Instruction personnel, facilitating biweekly PLT meetings with Instructional Facilitators, disaggregating student data on a weekly basis, and ensuring that weekly assessment reports are generated and submitted on time.

Classworks is a researched based instructional program that has been proven to be an effective support tool in enhancing the overall quality of classroom instructional techniques. During the summer transitional program students will have the access and structured opportunities to address their individual skill deficits and enhance their overall understanding of 2nd grade critical skills/concepts. This will also allow classroom teachers to differentiate their instructional approaches in an effort to meet the needs of all learners. Summer staff will also serve as onsite implementation coaches during the 2013-2014 school year for staff members that are not familiar with Classworks. In an effort to increase our parental involvement and provide parents with an overview of the Summer Transition Program we will host a parent information session. The purpose of this event is to provide parents with insight on the short term and long term goals of the Summer Transition Program, the method classroom teachers and school administrators used to identify targeted students, information regarding transportation and onsite breakfast service, daily and summer schedule, etc. The informational session will take place in the evening, therefore we will use the catering service of Hunter Hill Caf to provide dinner for targeted 2nd grade students and a parent/guardian for the evening. As a culminating activity for the Summer Transition Program participating students will be treated to a trip to Adventure Landing in Raleigh, NC. Each student will be provided with an attraction/token package and a pizza lunch combo. FIELD TRIP TOTAL $1,135.50
