PROGRAM: SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT/GOBAC TECHNOLOGY INTRODUCTION Municipal Solid Waste has become a major problem in almost all area of the country. Very few municipalities have an area for proper disposal of their municipal solid waste The present system of collecting mixed-up garbage, transporting to far away dump sites and disposing them by open dumping has brought about a variety of health, ecological economic and aesthetic problem. A new technology which is called GOBAC Technology of composting with the aid of GOOD BACTERIA can reduce the volume of garbage to be put up in a landfill and the materials dump in the area will not produce leachate as the compostable material is segregated and use for composting. The interest of the organization GOBACK ORGANIC DEVELOPMENT and SUSTAINABLE FOUNDATION (GODS FOUNDATION) INC. is to enlighten local executives that a solution to our Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) problem or to free them unclean, unsightly foul smelling streets and neighborhood lies in processing and recycling which are viable resources or organic fertilizers and recyclable/reusable products. OBJECTIVES A sustained/sustainable cleanliness or orderliness and enhanced ecological balance in the locality. Generation of income and employment for the processing and recycling of community, market and animal solid waste. Minimize or zero pollution of the air, water and soil. Improved soil physical, chemical and biological properties through the use of the organic fertilizer out of the compost able Municipal Solid Waste.
TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY With the implementation of this Resource Recovery Center project (Recycling Plant). Anything that we consider worthless like community, market, industries, and animal waste will become a resource rather than a refuse abandoned and destroyed. Income and employment can be generated out of these waste/resources. Soil water and air pollution created by waste will be solved and the area will be turned into more ecologically balanced environment. The recycling plant can also cater to the adjoining municipalities for a fee for bringing in their garbage. The major product that will be produced out of this garbage is bio-organic fertilizer, a friable soil like in texture brownish black in color having 35% moisture content. It contains organic matter, minor and major elements (nutrients) such as:
Nitrogen (N), Potassium (K) Magnesium Oxide (NgO) Copper (Cu) Iron (Fe) etc.
Which are beneficial for enhancing micro-organism which improves soil physical, chemical and biological properties? It contains N-P-K combined not less than 7% Carbon to Nitrogen ratio of not more than 12:1 and total organic matter of not less than 20%. It shall be packed into 50kg. Bag with polyethylene plastic bags with 0.025 thicknesses. This product will be derived from compostable/biodegradable solid waste as plant and animal residues. Other minor products are recycle/reusable materials such as papers, plastics carton, iron, aluminum, copper, broken glasses, (white) bottles, tin, Styrofoam, cans etc. which can be sent back to the factory for recycling and refusing purpose. These shall be packed and according to kinds and shall be stored prior to factory processing. Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) will be stored out in the plant in biodegradable and non-biodegradable classification (wet & dry) and into compostable, disposable and recyclable classification. Compostable materials like food leftovers, rotten fruits and vegetables peelings, Carcasses, woods, twigs, fish/fowls cleaning soft shells, leaves, etc. will be chopped into small pieces by the shredder machine then measured on a volume basis to determine the correct proportion of additives to be incorporated also on a volume basis for rapid composting of the entire mixture. The volume of the chopped waste materials and corresponding amount of additives will be placed in the composting tank for efficient aerobic decomposition. This process mentioned above is called Pre-Compost Process. After fourteen (14) days the mixed waste materials are considered matured compost and shall be subjected into another processing stage known as Post-Compost Production Process. At this stage the compost material shall be harvested from the composting tank and shall pass the sieving machine to separate the fine and rough particles and some impurities which are considered as disposable and will be placed in the land fill. The rough particles will be grinded first before mixing it with fine particles for curing the mixture into open air shaded structure, after curing the said materials they are considered organic fertilizer upon the addition of some enriching organic elements after mixing in the mixer these go to the automatic bagging, stockpiling and finally marketing.
Recyclable/reusable materials like tins, cans, metals, bottles, broken glasses, plastics, Styrofoams, rubber, dry paper, cardboard, cartons etc. shall be collected packed within a shaded structure exclusively for them which is sometimes called on the Material Recovery Storage (MRS). Upon accumulation of a large volume within the storage materials will be sold to buyers. Disposable materials which are non compostable and non recyclables / non reusable will be brought into a landfill area for disposal then backfilled. This Recycling Plant Module can process up to 20 tons of garbage per day.
