COGS/HSIE OUR STORIES The COGs unit Our Stories has enabled ____ to explore the meaning and

d significance his/her own heritage and that of others including those of Aboriginal background. He/ She has developed a ___________ understanding of the need to recognise the heritage of all the people who comprise our multicultural country. Through the COGs unit Our Stories -----has developed -----understanding of the meaning and significance of his/ her own heritage and that of others who are part of our culturally diverse nation. COGS/HSIE LOCAL PLACES In Term 2, the COGS unit Local Places provided Name the opportunity to explore his/her relationship with the natural and built environments in our local area. She/he has developed some, a sound, good, great knowledge of places in the local area and an understanding their use and the ways in which the environment has been adapted to fulfil needs. Name also developed his/her mapping skills through activities and games using Google Earth, grid coordinates and compass directions. He/she was able to identify and attempted to make a detailed map of built and natural features in a part of our school playground and successfully, attempted to used some, a few, detailed, clear symbols in a key to identify those different features. During Term 2, through the COGS (Connected Outcome Groups) unit Local Places, Name explored the school environment, identifying the function of specific areas. He/ She also identified safe and less-safe areas and suggested modifications to improve safety. Name worked very well, cooperatively, productively, well, with some guidance in a group to create a poster displaying safety hints for bicycle riding, skateboarding, swimming at a pool, at the beach, bushwalking...... In an independent activity Name displayed an excellent ability, a great ability, the ability to identify some safe and unsafe situations in familiar settings and clearly, give some explanation, explain the reasons for that choice. In Term 2, the COGS unit Local Places provided Name the opportunity to explore his/her relationship with the natural and built environments in our local area. He/ She can talk about the choices she/he makes that affect health and well-being During the Local Places COGs unit, Name identified and explored environmental factors and how they impact on his/her health and the health of others. He/She has displayed a developing, good, great, excellent understanding of the causes and effects of air, water and land pollution and could suggest some ways in which he/she could help reduce pollution in the local area. Name has enthusiastically participated well in sport on a weekly basis, developing his/her gross motor and

specific game skills. He/ She has enjoyed the variety of activities, instructors and equipment and mentioning sportsmanship, participation, particular activity/skill, equipment). Fitness... Name thoroughly enjoyed, eagerly anticipated, looked forward, found Peer Support sessions in Term 2 somewhat of a challenge . He/she looked forward to joining his mixed-age group each week to participate in many different activities. During the Local Places Name identified and explored environmental factors and how they impact on his health and the health of others. He has displayed a good understanding of the causes and effects of air, water and land pollution and could suggest some ways in which he could help reduce pollution in the local area. Name has participated very well in gymnastic program during Term 1. Name was also a keen participant in the Swimming Carnival( chloe, Tom and Monique) and Cross Country Carnival ( SCIENCE SOUNDS SENSATIONAL This term, __________ has been learning about sound through the unit, Sounds Sensational. _________ has participated in a range of learning activities and experiences that enabled him/her to investigate how sound is produced, how sound travels, how sound is used and the characteristics of sound. His/Her understanding of sound and its role in our lives and our community was developed through hands-on activities, culminating in the research, design and construction of a musical instrument using household recycled materials. SCIENCE ALL MIXED UP This term, _________ has been investigating materials that dont mix well, and others that are difficult to separate through the Science unit, All Mixed Up. Through hands-on investigations, he/she has been involved in numerous activities that have enabled him/her to explore how changing the quantities of materials in a mixture can alter its properties and uses.
