Discipleship Guide
In the Pursuit of Making Disciples and Glorifying God

The Example of PAULS Discipleship

Borrowed from LLI

Matthew 28:19, 20
Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age.

For the apostle Paul, all of life revolved around one per son, Jesus Christ. Perhaps no one in the New Testament had more right to say, to me, to live is Christ, than did t h i s c o n v e r t e d R ab b i f r o m Tarsus ( Philippians 1:21). Nothing was more important to Paul than knowing and serving his Lord.
The 33 means, 33 minutes spent Meeting, Sitting, Teaching, Talking and Praying will make a whole lot of difference in your Christian walk. It could be 33 minutes to 103 minutes!

From Pauls words in Philippians 3:7-10, you can see more fully what the lordship of Christ requires: Dying to self interest (v.8) Hungering to know Christ personally (v.10) Hungering to know the power of His resurrection (v.10) Hungering to know the fellowship of His sufferings (v.10)

Point (4) should be of particular interest to us, since we live in a day when people seek to avoid suffering at all cost. Paul did not love to suffer. He realized, however, that because of his love for Christ, suffering would be inevitable. Jesus had made it very clear. He said, No servant is greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also (John 15:18-20) Suffering with Christ is a privilege because it shows that we are truly His disciples. This is why Paul hungered to share with Christ in His sufferings. From Paul we can also learn important it is to be faithful to our call to service. Paul was commissioned by Christ to carry the gospel to the world (2 Timothy 1:11). Later in life he said, I was not obedient to the vision from heaven (Acts 26:19). Paul considered no suffering too harsh, no sacrifice too great, not even death as long as Christ was magnified through his life. You are called to follow Pauls example as a disciple of Christ. You are asked to strive to know Christ better, to experience the fullness of the Holy Spirits power, and if need be, to suffer for His name. (1 Corinthians 11:1, Phil. 3:17)
