Overview
This document is divided into three sections that will help you get started on 20-20 Version 6.1: Section 1 ~ Installing 20-20 guides you in the installation of the program. Section 2 ~ Using the 20-20 Shortcut Bar describes the programs access tool and how to use it. Section 3 ~ Taking a Quick Tour of 20-20 Design describes basic notions and tasks needed to work with this program.

v
OVERVIEW

Section 1 ~ Installing 20-20

This section will help you install 20-20 Version 6.1 with dialog illustrations and specific instructions. Since several Windows* versions can run 20-20, this document presents screen illustrations taken from Windows 2000. The illustrations will guide you through the installation of the 20-20 programs, Internet Explorer Version 5.5, as well as the Quick Time Player Program Version 5.0, if you are installing for the first time. The Design Assistants use Internet Explorer Version 5.5 to display the 20-20 HTML Viewer. The Quick Time Player program is used to play back movie files saved in the 20-20 Virtual Showroom.

Check Your Hard Disk Space

We recommend that you have 128 MB of RAM and 1 GB of disk space available on the hard drive where you will install the program. If you do not have sufficient disk space you will not be able to install. To check for the disk space available, follow these steps. The procedure is the same, no matter what version of Windows you are using. 1. Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop area.

2.

Right-click on the desired hard drive and choose Properties.

2

Set the Screen Resolution

The following procedure describes how you can modify your screen resolution in all current Windows versions except for Windows XP, which can be found on page 6. If your screen resolution is set at 640 x 480, you will not see all the screen components and may find it difficult to configure your screen as explained in the Design Tutorial. We suggest a screen resolution of 1024 x 768, but 800 x 600 is also acceptable.

Windows 98/2000-Me/NT 4
1. Click on Start and choose Settings.

2. 3.

Click on Control Panel. Double-click on the Display icon.

4

For the Colors/Color Palette, click on the drop-down arrow and choose True Color if the capacity of your graphics and video adapters allow you to do so. Click on Apply, then OK. If you get any message after clicking Apply or OK, respond accordingly.

6.

If your graphics card and video adapter do not allow you to choose True Color, remember that the minimum acceptable color setting is 256 colors.

Note! If you do not connect the security device properly, you will not be able to use the program.

Connect the Security Device

If you have not done this already, connect your security device to the parallel printer port on the back of your computer. To do this, disconnect the parallel printer cable and connect the security device to the parallel port. When the security device is securely in place, connect the parallel printer cable to the security device. If you do not have a printer connected directly to your system, simply connect the security device in the parallel printer port, i.e. the connector with 25 holes. Warning! Never connect another security device, scanner, tape backup or zip drive to the 20-20 security device because you will damage it.

Check the Parallel Port Setting

To verify and change the parallel port configuration of your computer, refer to your computers manual, your computer manufacturer or your technician.

There are three different ways of viewing the items on the Work area: Floor Plan Elevation Bill of Materials. The Floor Plan area is the first one you see and use; this is where you draw the wall structure.

Afterwards, you can decide which walls you want to see on the Elevation area.

52

You can display values in feet/inches (1' 2"), inches only (14"), or millimeters (55mm), depending on the selection under the Units tab of the Display Settings. Furthermore, when you enter a measurement in inches only, there is no need to enter the inch symbol ("). For instance, if you type in 5.5 and press TAB, you will see 5 1/2". When typing in fractions, you can use either format: 57.5 (using a decimal point) or 57 (leaving a space before the fraction). A few keys to remember when using the Edit box:

TAKING A QUICK TOUR OF 20-20 DESIGN

You can add several Drag & Drop lists and customize each one: one may show cabinets, another bathroom accessories, and so on. You can even type in codes, using the Quick Search area, to list items beginning with the same code. The more characters you add to your search, the narrower the list becomes. Once you see the item you want, you can click on it to display its location in the catalog, in the history of selection area.

As explained earlier, the Drag & Drop list is also linked to the Information box where you can see a picture of the highlighted item.

Draw the Layout

When you draw a layout, remember that: you should draw wall/construction lines in a clockwise sequence so items are placed inside the room. the start position on the floor plan indicates an invisible quadrant: this determines the direction of the first wall/construction line. The advantage is that you do not need to change the angle.

construction lines are invisible walls often used to create structures such as islands. you can place items on one or both sides of a wall/construction line. one-sided wall/construction line: you can place items only on one side such as on an exterior wall containing an Inside placement zone.

66

DRAW THE LAYOUT

two-sided wall/construction line: you can place items on both sides such as on an island containing both an Inside and an Outside placement zone. wall/construction lines have a display placement zone: items placed are attached as Wall-mounted items or Floor-mounted items.

Work with the Bill of Materials

The Bill of Materials (BOM) has four tabs: Graphic Items Calculated Items Accessories & Extra Costs Notes

Graphic Items
Consists of two sections: Plan Items Non-Plan Items

73
TAKING A QUICK TOUR OF 20-20 DESIGN

You can see items added on the Floor Plan or Elevation area under Plan Items. When you add items directly to the BOM, they are listed under Non-Plan Items. You can drag non-plan items on the layout if necessary. You can also cut items from the layout and paste them under Non-Plan items. To get a quick idea of the design total, look in the lower right corner of the BOM, and remember that this is the total price of all items without taxes and extra charges. The Calculated Items section of the BOM shows the quantity calculated by the program for each predefined item (for example the amount of slabs required) and the total price associated with this quantity. Use the Window menu to switch between the BOM and the Floor Plan/Elevation areas.
