The French volcano

Michle Mouton was the first female rally driver to win a world championship race.
Michle Mouton was simply sensational in 1981, the first year of racing for the Audi quattro. Born in Grasse in 1951, she was as feisty as she was fast. With Fabrizia Pons (Italy) as her co-pilot, she won the San Remo Rally and became the first woman to win a world championship race. The following year, she posted three victories and just missed out on the title. Mouton posted a recordsetting time of 11:25.39 minutes in winning the Pikes Peak mountain race in the Sport quattro in 1985.
