The purpose of this experiment is to answer to following question:
As water changes from one state to another, will particle movement increase, decrease or stay the same? (solid to liquid to gas to liquid, etc.)
You will need to write some specic research questions here. You can write these ahead of time, or as you do your research. By the end, you should know: How do the molecules behave in a solid? How do the molecules behave in a liquid? How do the molecules behave in a gas? What happens to the molecules as they change from a solid to a liquid? Hypothesis:
What will happen to the dependent variable as the independent variable is changed?
As you add energy the molecules will start moving more because in one of the photos that Mr McKinney showed, it said that the more you add energy the more molecules will start to separate and move. The movement will increase by a lot.
Why?
Because as the ice turns into liquid, the molecular structure will become less attached and the molecules will start to move freely.

Conclusion:
From the graph, the results show (What happens to the dependent variable as the independent variable changes?) . . .
The water particles increases as the temperature rises. As you see in my graph, the temperature kept rising. In the lab experiment we can actually see the water particles moving around. Also as the temperature rises, steam started to come out. The water became gas and the water level went lower and lower.
This happens because (Consider the concepts you used in your hypothesis). This is a good place to include some diagrams if they will help explain your ideas.
! ! The particles increases as we add energy in it. We add heat into the ice so it melts and changes state. Ice is a solid so the particles dont move and they are packed together. As we add heat into the ice, the ice melts. The ice changes state into a liquid which is water. Water particles moves freely in water so when ice melts and changes state into water the particles moves around more and it increases.

The measuring instruments. Beaker, Time, Thermometer a) Did the measuring instruments collect data that can be trusted? Yes/ No a) The beaker didnt collected data that can be trusted. On the beaker it only had 100, 200 and up till 500. It didnt had specic numbers like 390. Our groups water level was a little bit lower than 400ml. So we had to estimate the water level. The thermometer had specic numbers on it so we didnt had to estimate the temperature but the temperature will change if we put the thermometer lower in the beaker and closer to the hotplate, the temperature might be higher. We used a watch to record the time but the watchs time might be wrong. Different watches has different time. b)No, we only had did the experiment once. We had the experiment on the next day but that was because we didnt nish the lab on the day before. So the experiment didnt repeated enough times.
