It is with great delight that I welcome you to the 2011 ACS Leadership Summit.

We have a record number of ACS Presidents attending this years summit, which demonstrates that the African Caribbean Society networks are keen to build alliances and collaborations given the right platform. Since 2009, weve been humbled by the level of interest and participation year-on-year and hope to strengthen the level of interest in the network over the coming years. The 2010/11 academic year was a great time at the ACS Project. We organised twoACS in the Citycareer forums with Morgan Stanley and Google, launched theGoogle Top Black Talent Programme, which paired 31 black students with mentors from Google, and organised the inauguralACS Talk Timeat the University of Warwick hosted by Warwick ACS. In the coming academic year, we are planning an ACS in the City career forum inBanking,LawandTechnologyand we are looking forward to the autumnACS Talk Timeto be hosted by Manchester ACS at the University of Manchester. Our annual survey is now complete with record 700 responses, a14%increase from 2010. Our analysis of the responses shows an increase in the number of students whose impression of ACSis a positive one at53%. Thus, illustrating that a majority regard the ACS network as valuable aide in their personal and professional development. This years summit programme has been created with a focus on empowering you to lead your local ACS communities more effectively. With great speakers and workshop sessions, we want you to make the most of today by networking with your peers, learning from our speakers and connecting with our partner employers. We are very appreciative of the brands that share our vision and demonstrate this through their continued partnership. PIERS LINNEY
Piers Linney is an entrepreneur with a professional background in law and finance who has a rapidly growing profile in the media due to the rapid growth of his award-winning and world-leading Cloud Service Provider and unified communications business, Outsourcery. Piers grew up in the small Lancashire town of Bacup. After graduating from the University of Manchester with a degree in Accounting and Law, Piers qualified as a solicitor in the city of London. Before he created Outsourcery, Piers has worked as an investment banker, venture capital fund manager and hedge fund manager. Today, Piers is at the Joint CEO and a major shareholder of one of the worlds leading Cloud Service Provider businesses called Outsourcery, which is driving the rapidly growing UK market in Cloud-based software, infrastructure and unified communications solutions. Piers enjoys the extreme sport of downhill mountain biking and is married with two children. He lives in Camden in central London.

The KCL ACS has approximately 150 registered members with an additional 1,500 virtual members via its Facebook page and mailing list. Out going President Mike Nosa-Ehima says our goal is to cater for the social, educational, cultural and professional needs of our members. The KCL ACS has done just that with the success of society events like their Soul Food Afro-Caribbean buffet, Culture Shock and the Celebrating Success Q&A sessions, where society members were treated to motivational guest speakers. The ACS has also had even more fruitful success in collaboration with UCL with the Blind Date event. The success of their event did not go unnoticed locally as they were awarded the Society of the Year Award against 150 already active societies at the university by their Students Union. KCL ACS was nominated for ACS of the Year & ACS Event of the Year Award.

OZIOMA EMEAGI
Opening the Summit is, banker and trained economist, Ozioma Emeagi who joined Deutsche Bank in 2002 where he is currently a director in the Capital Markets and Treasury Solutions coverage group and is responsible for Central and Eastern European financial institutions sales. In his nine years at Deutsche Bank, he has originated and executed a number of high profile transactions for sovereigns, corporates and financial institutions within the region. Ozioma holds a BSc. in Economics from University College London.

RT HON DAVID LAMMY MP

David Lammy is Labour MP for Tottenham, a seat he won in a by-election in 2000, becoming the then youngest MP in the Commons. Until the 2010 election he had been a Minister of State at the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills for two years. In this role, he was responsible for adult learning and offender learning and skills. He has also held posts in Health, Constitutional Affairs and Culture. Before entering politics, he worked as a lawyer in London and practised for a year in Los Angeles, after studying at Harvard. David is a firm believer in the ability of education to change lives, and takes every possible opportunity to encourage young people, especially those under-represented at many top universities, to achieve their academic potential.

University of Leicester ACS with 150 registered members and approximately 1,762 virtual members. The ACS is partnered with African Caribbean Leukemia Trust as well as De Montfort University, Loughborough amongst others. Looking to cater to the needs of its members across the board, the ACS strategy is one of increasing the breadth and diversity of its events. From parties for social butterflies to educational opportunities open to anyone, out-going President Fatimah Conteh says, the success of the ACS was not down to me alone, every committee member helped to shape the ACS Their achievements include receiving the Gold Society status and Cultural Society of the Year. As Leicester ACS illustrates, the success of any society lies not only with the vibrancy of its members but on the strength of it leadership. Leicester ACS was nominated for ACS of the Year Award.

RHONDA CALDER & SARAH INGRAM (DEUTSCHE BANK)

Ms Calder and Ms Ingram are both Vice Presidents Of Talent Acquisition and Graduate Recruitment. Rhonda specialises in embedding diversity in Deutsche Banks programs and initiatives whilst Sarah is responsible for Asset Management and Private Wealth Management recruitment and is also the relationship manager for Imperial College.

NOTTSACS.BLOGSPOT.COM
Nottingham ACS has 250 registered members with approximately 1,575 virtual members connected via Facebook and Twitter. The ACS, through it events, has united students at different level of study. Incoming President Josy-Baroness Boakye says, members found that having small socials were great for interacting with people they would not usually see on campus, especially those in other years. Nottingham ACS has had successful collaborative events with SOCAA (Students of Caribbean Ancestry Association), as well as universities; Coventry, Cambridge, and Aston with their popular annual Jazz, Fun and Soul holding for a 3rd year. The ACS also uses a dedicated blog page to publicize and report back on events held by the society. Josy says friendliness of the overall committee brought members together and encouraged many members not in the committee to lend a helping hand, illustrating that their ACS success is truly a team effort. Notts ACS was nominated for ACS of the Year and ACS Event of the Year.

OLA FAGBAMIGBE
Ola is currently a Deployment Program Manager with Google Enterprise. Since starting at Google in June 2010, Ola has managed the deployment of Google Apps for businesses across Europe, Middle East and Africa. Ola is passionate about mentoring young people. Recently, he was a mentor at Evoke, a World Bank initiative to encourage young people, especially in Africa, to come up with creative solutions to urgent social problems.

HOSTS & MODERATORS

Raghd & Rosario are quintessential innovators. They founded the R&R variety talk show; a radio show for university students providing listeners the chance to share their views on topics from politics to entertainment delivered with an energy only seen when the two join forces. Sudanese born Ragdh (pictured right) prefers to refer to herself as a citizen of the world. Having travelled extensively and through internships with organisations such as the United Nations she is able to think beyond borders. Nonetheless, her interests are not solely politically and culturally inclined she is passionate about all things creative: Fashion, Photography, etc. Originally from Nigeria, Rosario (pictured left) brings unrivalled passion to any project she embarks on. A recent graduate; a model; an entrepreneur; a trainee at Goldman Sachs; a football connoisseur: just a few of the contrasting interests, which highlight the diversity of her capabilities. She lives by the mantra Failure is not an option. These two University of Warwick French with Politics (Raghd) and Sociology (Rosario) students are blazing a new path for all to follow.

UCL ACS, it seems, are a society of budding entrepreneurs. They staged an Apprentice style event (a popular BBC TV series were contestants compete to become the apprentice of a multi-millionaire businessman). UCL ACS does The Apprentice, complete with a panel of venture capitalists from Deloitte and Touche also included a fabulous grand prize of a day work experience at Deloittes Central London offices. The Afiya Titus out-going President says we sought to bring the best entrepreneurial/innovative skills out of our members; to make them more employable. Making headlines throughout their university, the UCL ACS has surely proved that the ACS is more than just a cultural society. UCL ACS was nominated for ACS Event of the Year.
