(Note, the camp does not hold a meeting July). Camp member Roy Ross Jessee was honored on May 17th 2013 at the United Daughters of the Confederacy Memorial Hall and awarded the UDC Cross of Military Service for his service rendered during the Vietnam Conflict. Also attending to honor Roy were Camp Adjutant/Treasurer Blair Perrow, John Henry Taylor, John M. Freeman, and Darlene F. Taylor. Following the award ceremony, everyone was treated to a very nice reception. Many of the Virginia Flaggers were also in attendance to honor our Camp member, Roy Jessee.

The camp has a memory candle which is lit at the beginning of each months meeting. This is done in memory/honor of someone's ancestor(s), person of interest/of note, passed member, event, etc... Please take just a few minutes and step forward and light the candle. If you would like to light the memory candle please let Commander Brown know and he will make arrangements for one of the upcoming meetings.

The signs that Mark the Lee bridge over the James River in Richmond have been missing for some time, Virginia Flagger Grayson Jennings has been in contact with VDOT and Richmond City Public Works Department. for the past few months inquiring on their removal.
Finally, on Tuesday, May 21st, we were THRILLED to drive up to the bridge and find that the SIGNS HAD BEEN INSTALLED!!! Four signs now mark the bridge and are a visible reminder each day, to thousands of motorists, of the man for whom the bridge is named. We share this story to encourage everyone to keep your eyes and ears open for these kinds of "quiet" heritage violations, which happen every day across the United States. Take time to find the appropriate people to contact (in this case, weekly, polite email inquiries) until they follow through, and the honor due our Confederate heroes is restored

Next Meeting
Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday June 4th, 2013 dinner at 6 P.M. and to follow with business and Barry Isenhour speaking on Salisbury Prison at 7 P.M. at the Dolce Vita Italian Restaurant, 2401 Colony Crossing Place Midlothian, VA 23112
