Abstract: The study aimed at identifying personal and socio-economic characteristics of extension and cooperative workers and defining their levels of participation in short-term in-service training and their perception of future simialr training needs. Training participants totaling 163 served as respondents to the study. Required information was gathered using a specifically designed, pre-tested and improved questionnaire. Information then was organized and entered into a database prior to execution of statistical analysis utilizing the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Results of study have shown that respondents participation in training was generally ranging from low to medium levels except few respondents who scored high level. Respondents belonging to cooperatives scored lower training participation level as compared to extensionists. The list of training courses attended, contained 17 training subjects/fields, with only 2-3 subjects attended by large number of respondents. On bases of self-reported training needs, and other results, the study recommended that training programs should be tailored to the actual needs of agricultural workers in a more balanced way, and that detailed training studies need to be conducted. The study has also concluded with some other recommendations aiming at improving short-term training in the agricultural sector on bases of a strategic orientation.
