Background
In collaboration with Luke OBrien, Max Gregory and Charlotte Bourke, we were chosen to design the yearbook for the Digital Film, Games and Animation course after our pitch for the BAGD yearbook. As opposed to other years, the yearbook will be distributed in a pdf format which, on one hand, offers limitations in terms of print but also offers advantages in interactivity. Concept
The concept for the yearbook is based around process the process in which the students on the course untertake. We essentially wanted to bring the virtual world into the real world by emulating and translating what we see on the screen to 3D elements. We used paper-craft to construct abstract shapes, some of which loosely represented aspects from films, games or animation within pop culture.

Layout
As the yearbook was required to be distributed as a pdf publication, we had the opportunity to experiment with interactivity. We therefore decided to keep a static contents page featuring all of the students names and contact details that the users could revert back to at any point. These names would link to their corresponding pages; the first of which obtains the same layout, minus the other names and details.

To emulate the orientation of screen, we used a 2:1 ratio (210 x 420) layout to ensure the content provided fitted effectively to do the grid. The type is set using a simple but versatile grid. A link back to the contents page is featured in the corner of every page through a simple icon design.

Jake Neal
I am an aspiring concept artist and illustrator seeking to establish myself in the world of entertainment design. Ive always been fascinated by fictional worlds; to design and create them has been both my goal and my passion ever since I learned such a career existed. In addition to the core drawing and painting skills that are my bread and butter, I have also developed, through collaboration, an understanding of development pipelines and practices that help contextualise my role.

Promotion
Using the photographs we took, I created several poster designs each representing a different area of the course the colours were altered and highly saturated to clearly differentiate between each area. We used a heavy, sans-serif typeface in white due to the complexity of the photographs to ensure clear legibility. The vivid nature of the images create immediate impact; moreso against the current advertising. The format and orientation can also be altered and manipulated.
