Harvard University Zhuang Laboratory Renovation HVAC Narrative: This project is a renovation to the Basement & Ground Floor of the Naito Chemistry Building. The scope of work includes new optics laboratories, an equipment room, interaction area, and offices. The HVAC plans and specifications indicate the necessary system components to provide heating, ventilation, and air conditioning for the addition. The new HVAC components are extensions of the existing all air and hot water systems in the existing Naito Chemistry Building. An existing 100% outside air, variable volume air handling unit, will provide conditioned fresh air to variable volume terminal boxes, fan coil units, and recirculating air handling units. The recirculating air handling units have variable volume control via EC motors. The fan coil units and recirculating air handling units have both hot water heating and chilled water coiling coils. Perimeter heating is provided via fin tube radiation and radiant panels. Hot water and chilled water for heating, reheating, radiation, and cooling are provided by the building hot water and chilled water loops, supplied by the Harvard Campus Central Plant. The existing laboratory exhaust system consisting of variable volume exhaust fans, located in the penthouse, will provide exhaust for the variable volume lab fume hoods and general exhaust via exhaust air terminals. Laboratory fume hoods and general exhaust are arranged in a ganged exhaust system and exhausted to the roof. Design Criteria/Conditions: Exterior Winter Design Temperature: 0 F. Exterior Summer Design Temperature: 91 F dry bulb/73 F wet bulb Interior Winter Design Temperature: 72 2 F Interior Summer Design Temperature: 75 2 F System capacities: Refer to drawings and equipment schedules. Testing requirements/criteria acceptance: Refer to Section 15990 of specifications. Operation and maintenance manuals: Refer to Section 15050 of specifications.
