what is O-0.3s-CO-3min-CO for a Circuit breaker?

03/12/2008 2:34 PM

I understand that O-0.3s means 3 sec for breaker to open.so what abt CO means.A close operation followed by open operation takes 3 min?what exactly CO means?is it closing + opening time or Closing or breaking time of Circuit breaker? Also on the name plate its mentioned Ud=28kV and Up=75kV and Iac=31.5kA for 1sec.Does Ud means the max system voltage at 50Hz the switchgear can bear?does Up stands for the impulse voltage? Also is 31.5kA a symmetrical 3 phase fault current?

O-0.3s-CO-3min-CO means circuit breaker is tested for its breaking capacity for three breaking and two making at interval of o.3s and 3min. Ud is the voltage at which breaking capacity is tested. Up is impulse voltage level. 31.5kA is the withstand capacity of the breaker for one second

O-0.3s-CO-3min-CO means opening operation followed, after 0.3 sec delay, by a close-open operation and finally after 3 min delay another close-open operation. Ud= Rated power frequency withstand voltage 50 Hz Up= Rated lightning impulse withstand voltage

Iac= Rated short-circuit breaking current for 1 sec.

This is the Rated Operating Sequence (Duty Cycle) of the circuit breaker. Which denotes the sequence of opening and closing operations which the circuit breaker can perform under specified conditions. The operating mechanism experinces sever stress during the auto-reclosure duty; however, the circuit breaker should be able to perform the operating sequence as follows: O-t-CO-T-CO where, O = opening operation t = time required for circuit breaker to be ready to receive closing order from auto-reclosure relay (0.3 s to be used for rapid reclosure), (3 min not to be used for rapid reclosure). CO = close operation followed by open operations T = time required by the circuit breaker, insulating media for regeneration and operating mechanism (3 min) CO = close operation followed by open operations

CO mean notime between close and then open again. this is done by relay oprating on fault on line o-0.3sec is reclosing operstion by autorecloser , since cb is already charged it will take 0.3 s to close but next reclose order cb has to recharge it operating mecanism and it will take 3 min to recharge its spring or hydraulic system and then able to reclose. again co is don e immediately in 30 millisecond time it is not shown here actuall it shoul be like this O-0.3S-C-0.03S-O-3MIN-C-0.03S-O ONECE THE CB OPENED BY RELAY ON FAULT, IT WILLTAKE 0.3S TO CLOSE AGAIN AND RECLOSING ORDER WILL BE GIVEN BY AUTO RECLOSER. WHEN CLOSED RELAY WILL OPEN AGAIN IN 30 MILLISECOND (30 MILLISECOND IS CB OPENING TIME. Reply to Forum Thread
