Bou­Matic supplied AirStar™ DSL pump and pulley combinations, at the stated RPM, are approved for installation
at 1400 feet elevation or lower, and at ambient temperatures (at the vacuum regulator) not in excess of 105°F,
and at pump inlet vacuum levels that do not exceed the maximum “Hg. shown. Consult the BouMatic Technical
Services Department for assistance in situations where elevation or ambient temperature exceed 1400 feet
elevation and/or 105°F.
Note: Warranty may be void when installation specifications are exceeded without written Technical Service Department authorization prior to pump installation.

Pump CFM may vary 10 percent from the listed ratings due to the variability
of the following factors in a given pump installation and location:
• Elevation above sea level
• Barometric pressure
• Ambient air temperature
• Airflow meter measuring and reading error
• Individual pump clearance and tolerance
• Exhaust back pressure
• RPM
• Vacuum level at the pump inlet

Variable Speed Drive Ordering Guide

To Order a BouMatic Variable Speed Drive:

For AirStar™ DSL Pump
Note: See Installation Instructions for multiple pump and backup pump criteria.

New Installations:
1. D etermine the amount of cfm - L/min airflow required.
2. Use the Sizing Guide on page 5 or 6 to determine which model of AirStar™ DSL Vacuum Pump equipped
with a Variable Speed Drive (VSD) Controller and what size of 3-phase electric motor provide the required
cfm - L/min.
3. Determine which VSD Controller Assembly meets the vacuum pump motor Hp/kW requirement and the
phase, voltage and Hz of incoming electrical power.
4. Select the AirStar™ DSL Variable Speed Vacuum Pump (VSVP) Motor Pulley Kit appropriate for the AirStar™
DSL pump.
5. Order:
a. Complete AirStar™ DSL vacuum supply system per standard BouMatic specifications, from sanitary trap
to vacuum pump (including Vacuum Regulator) but substitute an AirStar™ DSL VSVP Motor Pulley Kit for
the standard AirStar™ DSL Motor Pulley Kit and delete the Vacuum Relief Valve (replaced by Regulator);
b. The appropriate VSD Controller Assembly;
c. 18 AWG shielded electric cable from the transducer to the VSD Controller;
d. Appropriate 3-phase electric motor;
e. Dealer supplied items as specified in the Installation and Operation Instructions.

Retrofit Existing Air-Star Pumps:

Note: Use the following information if the existing vacuum pump meets system airflow requirements. If the existing pump does not meet, or greatly exceeds, airflow requirements
refer to the New Installations information above or call the Milk Harvest Unit for assistance.

1. If the existing vacuum pump electric motor is 1-phase, replace with a 3-phase motor.
 ote: The size of the vacuum pump motor must comply with the Sizing Guide performance data on page 5 (Sizing Guide and Air Star Pump Specifications for

Maximum Pump Speed) OR on page 6 (Sizing Guide and Air Star Pump Specifications for Slower Speed Pumps).

2. O rder the BouMatic VSD Controller Assembly that meets the vacuum pump motor Hp/kW and the phase,
voltage and Hz of incoming electrical power.
3. Use the Sizing Guide and VSD AirStar DSL Specifications Chart to determine the correct pump and electric
motor pulley sizes. Replace any pulley of incorrect size with the size of pulley specified in the Sizing Guide
chart.
Note: If you change a pulley you may also need to replace the belts.
