My lesson will begin by explaining the confusion between respiration and breathing. Respiration is a chemical process consisting of lots of chemical reactions, each one catalysed by its own enzyme. Later, I will ask the students to breath in and out and observed what happens to their body. Then, I will list down all the changes happen mentioned by students. II. Teacher will explain: Every cell in living organism needs energy Respiration involves a number of chemical reactions that break down nutrient molecules, such as glucose, in living cells to release energy. In aerobic respiration oxygen is used in the breakdown of glucose: Glucose + oxygen carbon dioxide + water + energy released

Anaerobic respiration is the release of relatively small amounts of energy from glucose in the absence of oxygen: Glucose lactic acid + energy released

Further discussion on other microorganisms, such as yeast, respire anaerobically when oxygen is absent or in short supply in their surroundings, to make alcohol and carbon dioxide: Glucose alcohol + carbon dioxide + energy released

Emphasis on the energy released from each molecule of glucose in aerobic respiration in far more than in anaerobic respiration. Students to make a diagram showing glucose broken down to carbon dioxide and water with the release of energy.
