Forward
An increasing number of American families are changing the way their families eat. Yours may choose to eat more plants, or switch to an organic diet or stick with a meat and potato diet. Yet, whatever you choose, this book can help you buy the items your household uses from foods to cleaning products at the lowest price.
Knowing how much you need and when those prices are the lowest, stock up! You can always get the lowest Blue Book prices on your groceries, household, health and beauty care items. Its an easy way to save thousands of dollars every year. Ideally, you know how many bottles of ketchup or furniture polish you use in a year. When those items are at the lowest price, you buy enough to last until the next sale cycle. A great idea, when you open a new item, say, ketchup or furniture polish, write the date with a permanent marker on the container. When the item runs out, look to see how long it took you to use the item. If it took 6 weeks to use the item, you probably need 9 containers to last a year. As an avid couponer, I have saved tens of thousands of dollars over the past twenty years. In the following pages, you will see the best time to buy items at their lowest prices. The prices listed are based on purchases made in the Phoenix, AZ market in the previous 12 months. My desire is that you save money by tracking your local prices and stocking up when the prices are at a great price. Buy enough to last for 3-6 months and if you have the space, stock up for a year on items that have a long shelf life. Remember, there are several factors and unforeseen events that can affect the pricing on food items. Below are a few factors that affect pricing. Deals- Manufacturers like to promote their brand. They will create opportunities for you to buy many of their items with promotions. Things like buy 5 save $5. Often there are coupons associated with these items for additional savings. Front Page of Ad: Too-Good-To-Be-True Loss Leaders - These are items that have great pricing, often sold below cost, so youll come in and buy other items. Turkeys around Thanksgiving are often priced below the grocery store costs. They want you to come in and buy everything you need for your Thanksgiving dinner. Ideally, the stores make money on the other purchases you make. Gas Prices When gas costs more, it costs the farmers more to get their products to market. They have to pass that increased cost onto the consumer, food prices increase. Labor Costs With Immigration reform, many farmers had reduced access to cheap labor. The increased costs are passed on to the consumer. Mother Nature -A freeze in Florida will follow with an increase in the price of orange juice. Season- Watermelons are harvested in the summer, thats when they are the cheapest.
Financial Guru, Andrew Tobias got a great laugh as a guest on The Johnny Carson Show in the late 70s when inflation was rampant. When asked how he would spend $1000 he told Johnny he would buy nonperishable consumer goods. ($1000 in 1978 is the equivalent to $3570 in 2013. Thats a lot of laundry detergent, no wonder why everyone laughed.) Just think about this concept. I bought enough laundry detergent to last a year. Purchasing my soap at 2/3s of the retail price is substantial. I can buy almost three packages for the price of one at regular price. When I need a new container to finish the laundry, I dont have to run to the store, I just go to my stash and grab another bottle. In my experience, trips to the store for one item usually end up being expensive. First, I rarely buy just the item I need. Second, the item I need isnt on sale. So, by knowing the best price, as our Never Pay More Book demonstrates, I stock up at the lowest price guaranteeing my savings in the future. Enjoy this book, use it as a resource so that saving money is guaranteed and like Mr. Tobias, youll certainly get a laugh. You can laugh all the way to the bank with your savings of both money and time. ~Laurie Meyers The Founder of Coupon Sense
With nearly two decades of being an avid couponer under her belt, Laurie Meyers took her hobby to the masses by utilizing a new technology, home computers. In 1998, very few families were on the internet, so Laurie had a program developed and mailed a comprehensive report to her members who pay a monthly membership fee. As technology evolved, so did her system. What started as a mailed newsletter that had to have the rows of information stop in the exact same spot, or the weight of the additional toner would cause the postage to go up, evolved to an emailed attachment and then to the current process of logging into a site to access ones account and information, has helped tens of thousands of families get more food for less money. The grocery budget in many of these homes has been realigned to pay down debt, fund vacations and build nest eggs.
