Morning Prayer ~Ogden Nash Now another day is breaking, Sleep was sweet and so is waking.

Dear Lord, I promised you last night Never again to sulk or fight. Such vows are easier to keep When a child is sound asleep. Today, O Lord, for your dear sake, I'll try to keep them when awake.

Where Go the Boats? ~Robert Louis Stevenson Dark brown is the river, Golden is the sand. It flows along for ever, With trees on either hand. Green leaves a-floating, Castles of the foam, Boats of mine a-boatingWhere will all come home? On goes the river, And out past the mill, Away down the valley, Away down the hill. Away down the river, A hundred miles or more, Other little children Shall bring my boats ashore.

The Baby's Dance ~Ann Taylor Dance, little baby, dance up high, Never mind baby, mother is by; Crow and caper, caper and crow, There little baby, there you go: Up to the ceiling, down to the ground, Backwards and forwards, round and round. Then dance, little baby, and mother shall sing, With the merry gay coral, ding, ding, a-ding, ding.

What Does the Bee Do? ~Christina Rossetti What does the bee do? Bring home honey. And what does Father do? Bring home money. And what does Mother do? Lay out the money. And what does baby do? Eat up the honey.

The Rainbow ~Christina Rossetti Boats sail on the rivers, And ships sail on the seas; But clouds that sail across the sky Are prettier than these. There are bridges on the rivers, As pretty as you please; But the bow that bridges heaven, And overtops the trees, And builds a road from earth to sky, Is prettier far than these.

At the Seaside ~Robert Louis Stevenson When I was down beside the sea A wooden spade they gave to me To dig the sandy shore. My holes were empty like a cup, In every hole the sea came up, Till it could come no more.

Little Things ~Julia A. Carney Little drops of water, Little drains of sand, Make the mighty ocean And the beauteous land. And the little moments, Humble though they be, Make the mighty ages Of eternity. So our little errors Lead the soul away, From the paths of virtue Into sin to stray. Little deeds of kindness, Little words of love, Make our earth an Eden, Like the heaven above

The Wind ~Christina Rossetti Who has seen the wind? Neither I nor you; But when the leaves hang trembling The wind is passing through. Who has seen the wind? Neither you nor I;

But when the trees bow down their heads The wind is passing by.

Turtles Little Turtle's home Is never far away. He carries it along As he goes about his day. As Little Turtle grows His house grows too. It fits him as well As a shoe fits you.

The Little Turtle There was a little turtle. He lived in a box. He swam in a puddle. He climbed on rocks. He snapped at a mosquito. He snapped at a flea. He snapped at a minnow. And he snapped at me. He caught the mosquito. He caught the flea.

He caught the minnow. But he didn't catch me.

Ducks Ducks are lucky, Don't you think? When they want to Take a drink, All they do is Duck their bill. (Doesn't matter if they spill.) When they want to take a swim, All they do is Dive right in. And they never Seem to sink. Ducks are lucky. Don't you think?

The Acorn Man There was a little acorn man Just fallen from a tree. I picked him up; he wasn't really Hurt that I could see. He brushed his jacket off and said, "I am not hurt at all. For by the time the summer goes

I'm ready for the fall."

What DoYou Need?

To build a house You need a block To tell the time You need a clock To open the door You need to knock To sail a ship You need a dock And to cover your foot You need a sock Block, clock Tick, tock, Knock, dock Sock!

Baby Bear's Chicken Pox "Waa, waa waa," cried Baby Bear. "I've got chicken pox in my hair, On my nose and everywhere. Waa, waa , waa," cried Baby Bear. "Oh poor baby," Mama said. "Come to me and rest your head. Soon you will be out of bed.

Oh, poor baby," Mama said. I Use My Brain I use my brain to think, think, think. I use my nose to smell. I use my eyes to blink, blink, blink. I use my throat to yell. I use my mouth to giggle, giggle, giggle. I use my hips to bump. I use my toes to wiggle, wiggle, wiggle. I use my legs to jump.

A Catch I've caught a fish! Come look! I've got him on my hook. He saw my worm down in the pond. And fishes all are very fond Of worms, so up he swam to mine, And now I've got him on my line. He's just the proper size to munch. (I think I'll have him fried for lunch.)

GIRAFFES I like them. Ask me why. Because they hold their heads so high. Because their necks stretch to the sky. Because they're quiet, calm, and shy. Because they run so fast they fly. Because their eyes are velvet brown. Because their coats are spotted tan. Because they eat the tops of trees. Because their legs have knobby knees. Because Because Because Because. That's why. I like giraffes.

Time to Rise ~Robert Louis Stevenson A birdie with a yellow bill Hopped upon the window sill, Cocked his shining eye and said: "Ain't you 'shamed, you sleepy-head?" An Autumn Greeting

"Come," said the Wind to the Leaves one day. "Come over the meadow and we will play. Put on your dresses of red and gold. For summer is gone and the days grow cold."
