3G-2G Missing Neighbours Analysis

The functionality described here is not available without a specific license. Contact your Actix representative if you are interested in upgrading to include this functionality. The 3G-2G Missing Neighbours detection requires you to input additional information before the analysis can be performed, which is why the UMTS Dashboard does not show any details other than a link to the task page.

About the 3G-2G Missing Neighbours Analysis

The analysis is a single defined process available from the Troubleshooters Standard data loading path that integrates map visualization of neighbour relationships with reported recommendations. A Missing Neighbour is a cell that has not been defined in the Neighbour list of the strongest cell at a given location, but has an RxLevel good enough to be added to the UEs Neighbour List as a potential cell to hand over from 3G to 2G. Missing Neighbours can cause dropped calls when the 3G network cannot carry the call due to interference or poor radio conditions, and the call needs to be carried out or completed in the 2G network. The 3G-2G Missing Neighbours analysis uses scanner data for cells within a specified radius and compares the visible channels to the current neighbour list as given in the 2G cellrefs data. The results of the analysis are presented in a map and table.

Selecting the streams

You need to select both a UMTS stream and a related GSM stream to be able to perform a 3G-2G Missing Neighbours analysis:

There are several ways of collecting 3G and 2G information for this analysis:

3G Scanner & 2G scanner (these could be in different files) 3G Scanner & 2G UE in idle

The settings for this analysis are described in the main Settings help section, under Preferences > WCDMA > GSM Neighbour List. Once you are satisfied with the selected streams and the settings for the analysis, click the Generate Analysis button. After processing, the Analysis Results are displayed. Note that if the GSM, UMTS and scanner data is all in the same file, you can use the Repository Drilldown by Call option to reach the Standard 3G-2G Missing Neighbours analysis. There is no other access available to this analysis from the Troubleshooter Repository area.

Examining the Analysis Report

This layout shows the results in table form at the top of the screen, and a map display at the bottom. Selecting a particular cell from either the map or the table draws lines from the cell to its suggested neighbours. At the top of the Report window are the Display Options :

Use the Display Lines Option to control which neighbour relation lines that you want to show on the map. Show additions only - Draw a line if the neighbour meets the criteria and is not in the existing Neighbour List Show removals only - Draw a line if the neighbour does not meet the criteria and is in the existing Neighbour List Show retentions only - Draw a line if the neighbour meets the criteria and is in the existing Neighbour List Next on the page is the Analysis table:

This shows the suggested Add/Remove/Retain relationship totals and related information for each sector. A button selects all available relationships for that row and column. In the example shown above, there are 41 suggested Adds in the first row, with none currently selected (0/41) for export. If that button were to be clicked, the number would read 41/41.

Clicking on one of these rows displays the relationships (as configured under Display Options above), as shown here:
Hovering the cursor over a particular line shows tooltip information on that relationship.

The red circle depicts the Maximum Intersite Distance (as defined in the online help under Settings > Preferences > WCDMA > GSM Neighbour List). Note that if a site is in the neighbour list and there is some recorded data for it, but it lies outside the Maximum Intersite Distance (max. 40 km), no suggestions for the site will appear in the table.

The table now displays a row for each individual relationship contained within the selected main row:

Clicking on one of these individual rows displays only the line for that particular suggested relationship on the map. From here, you can click the Select box to select an individual suggestion for export.

Exporting the relationship suggestions

Once you have explored the analysis, you can export the selected relationship suggestions, which you can then import into your OMC. The panel at the bottom of the Report window controls the export process:

Known issues
'No site data was found' message
The message 'No site data was found' is displayed even when the cellrefs are set:

Pre-requisites: - Make sure there is no appsettings.dat file in the Bin folder. Steps to repeat: - Click on the UMTS tab and notice that on top of that page there is message - "No site data was found. Are you sure that you've loaded the correct cell refs?

The Please Wait dialog box is not always visible when synching
- Scroll to the end of the 3G-2G Missing Neighbour report window.

- Synchronize the views from the table by selecting a row. - The Please Wait dialog seems to have a fixed position at the top of the view. In cases where a large quantity of data is loaded, this may result in the dialog being hidden from view.

New Workspace does not open the last default startup page
New Workspace does not open the Troubleshooter page, and does not default to the last chosen engineering process. Steps to repeat: 1. Start Troubleshooter. 2. Load your logfiles 4. Click Continue. 5. You are presented with two dropdown lists and prompted to choose one UMTS logfile and one GSM logfile. Select the logfiles. 6. In Settings, change the Distance threshold to 0. 7. Generate the analysis. 8. Select File->New Workspace. Note that the screen layout closes and it does not bring up the Troubleshooter start up page. The workspace does not open the first page of the last chosen engineering process. Note that the behavior is inconsistent; there are times when it works without a problem.

Applying a filter does not update the status bar in Analyzer

Applying a filter does not update the status bar in Analyzer. New Workspace does not open the Troubleshooter page. It does not default to the last chosen engineering process. Steps to repeat: 1. Start Troubleshooter. 2. Load your logfiles. 3. Click Continue.

4. Ensure that the streams are selected for UMTS logfile and one GSM logfile. 5. In Settings, change the Distance threshold to 0. 6. Generate analysis and select a row in the table. In the Display Options area there is a check box labeled: "Only show data points used for the analysis (the screen will refresh more slowly)". If that is checked, it means that a filter has been applied. But the status bar in the right hand corner of the Analyzer application window still says No Filters.

Exporting 3G2G data always defaults to c:

The default export path is c: The most recently used path is not remembered. Steps to repeat: 1. Generate a 3G-2G Neighbour Analysis. 2. Export the results to a file. 3. Note that the default directory is local disk c: 4. Save the file to some other directory. 5. Export again and see that the path returns to c:"
