En este curso se proporciona muchsima prctica de pronunciacin. Los idiomas se aprenden mejor cuando se practican que cuando se estudian. Lo que queremos decir es que una vez que usted conoce por ejemplo la mayora de las reglas que gobiernan la pronunciacin del ingls, solamente ha dado el primer paso. Si estas reglas no se aplican a la vida real, o sea, al idioma cotidiano, y si no se le ofrece al estudiante una gran variedad de casos donde pueda escuchar palabras que siguen estas reglas, no va a poder pronunciar bien. Este curso proporciona ejemplos de palabras y frases comunes que son aleccionadoras, o sea, que ejemplican bien las reglas de pronunciacin del ingls. Se ofrece una palabra o frase, se da su equivalente en espaol y entonces se usa esa palabra o frase en una oracin grabada lentamente. Luego se ofrece esta oracin con la entonacin y velocidad normal del idioma hablado. Le sigue una traduccin de la oracin y luego su Tutor le explica en espaol lo que de importante tiene este ejemplo. PAUTAS PARA APROVECHAR ESTE CURSO 1. En ingls el principal problema son las vocales, que tienen sonidos largos o dobles, como a /i/ que suena como dos vocales en espaol. Estos sonidos largos los representamos simplemente con dos vocales. Tambin hay sonidos cortos, como el de u en but, /bot/ que representamos con una sola vocal, pero hay sonidos cortos que son una mezcla de dos vocales, por ejemplo apple /Aepol/. En estos sonidos predomina la vocal que se muestra en Mayscula, mientras que el sonido que le sigue en minscula lo describimos como una pizca de e, en este caso. Claro est que estos sonidos de vocal mezclados no existen normalmente en espaol. Es importante que no pronuncie /aepol/ como si fueran dos vocales. Debe pronunciar /Aepol/ Otra consideracin importante que afecta la pronunciacin de las vocales es examinar si se encuentran en una slaba abierta o cerrada. Su Tutor le va a dar explicaciones utilizando estos dos trminos, slaba abierta y slaba cerrada. La slaba abierta es aquella que termina en vocal y la slaba cerrada es la que termina en consonante. En slaba cerrada la vocal lleva sonido corto y en slaba abierta la vocal lleva sonido largo. La letra e es siempre silente, excepto en palabras extranjeras. Cuando una palabra termina en Consonante + e silente, la vocal anterior ser larga, a pesar de que se encuentre en una slaba cerrada. La consonante ms diferente al espaol es la r que no es ni ere ni erre. La representamos como una r subrayada /r/. La r detrs de una vocal cambia el sonido de esa vocal, casi siempre a /e/ como en turn /tern/. En fontica a este fenmeno se le llama r-controlled words. La ventaja de tener un curso en audio es precisamente que usted va a poder escuchar y repetir la pronunciacin de las palabras pronunciadas por un nativo de lengua inglesa. La prctica es el mejor mtodo de jar la pronunciacin y la entonacin.

Aunque la ortografa y la pronunciacin del ingls parezcan muy irregulares, lo cierto es que hay reglas que aprenden los nios de lengua materna inglesa en la escuela primaria. Si usted las llega a conocer, podr descifrar muchas palabras nuevas. Estas reglas permiten saber cmo pronunciar las vocales en un gran nmero de casos. SLABAS ABIERTAS Y CERRADAS AFECTAN LOS SONIDOS DE LAS VOCALES El sonido largo de las vocales en ingls cuando depende de la letra que le sigue. En espaol, las vocales usualmente no se ven influenciadas por la letra que les sigue, excepto en los diptongos, por ejemplo. Pero en ingls es importante considerar si la slaba es abierta o cerrada. Abierta es cuando la slaba termina en vocal, mientras que cerrada es aquella slaba que termina en consonante. En ingls, hay reglas que permiten saber cundo las vocales tienen el sonido doble llamado largo: Regla 1 El nombre de las letras vocales es su sonido largo. Cuando se les llama por su nombre, o sea, cuando deletreamos una palabra en ingls: a, e, i, o, u (pronunciadas i,i, e, u, i). Regla 2 Las vocales en slabas abiertas se pronuncian con sonido largo. En slabas abiertas, o sea, slabas que terminan en vocal, como la palabra go/gu el sonido de la vocal es largo. Regla 3 Las vocales en slabas cerradas se pronuncian con sonido corto. En slabas cerradas, las que terminan en consonante, como en la palabra dog/dOag el sonido de la vocal es corto. Regla 4 Las vocales tienen sonido largo cuando van seguidas de consonante + e final silente. Cuando estn seguidas de consonante + e final muda (Cons. + e muda), como en la palabra cake/kik. o Observemos la oracinBlake, take the cake/Blik, tik de kik. Blake, llvate la torta. Esta regla es de aplicacin frecuente. Regla 5 La e final no suena en ingls. Esta regla es de aplicacin casi invariable en todas las palabras menos las provenientes del francs. Excepciones son palabras monosilbicas como he/ji y she/shi, donde s tiene sonido la e final. Regla 6 La final suena solamente en palabras que provienen del francs y que llevan acento escrito.La final con acento s se pronuncia pero slo en palabras provenientes del francs como caf/kAefi, el sitio, no la bebida, que es coffee/kOafi).
