Keep those Winter illnesses at bay.

A few tips for keeping you and your kids healthy this Winter season: Wash hands frequently with anti-bacterial soap, especially after using the toilet, coughing and sneezing. Keep alcohol-based hand gel in the car for sanitizing on the go. Always use a tissue when coughing/sneezing, and dispose of the tissue immediately. If your child has been unwell in the last 24 hours (Fever, Vomiting, Diarrhoea), they will not be accepted at Cubby. If your child falls unwell at Cubby, you will be notified and must collect your child ASAP. Eat healthy, nutritious foods. See guidelines next.

Healthy Eating Guidelines

Cubby recognizes the importance of healthy eating for the growth and development of young children and is committed to supporting the healthy food and drink choices of children. We will always encourage children to eat the more nutritious foods provided in their lunchbox, such as sandwiches, fruit, cheese and yoghurt, before eating any less nutritious food provided. We discourage the provision of highly processed snack foods high in fat, salt and sugar and low in essential nutrients in childrens lunchboxes. Examples of these foods include lollies, chocolates, sweet biscuits, muesli bars, breakfast bars, fruit filled bars and chips. As well as these foods not being nutritious, it is unfair for the other children at the table to not have these special occasion foods included in their lunch boxes. We have many children with food allergies, food intolerances and special dietary needs. So it is very important to remind everyone that the centre is nut-free (you all signed a form on enrolment). Please be really careful to check the labelling on processed foods you send as a lot contain nuts, without you knowing. Also a lot of the children that attend Cubby have severe allergies to egg and/or seafood... so if we could ask you to consider this before sending egg or seafood meals.

The working bee / Our new garden

Have you seen our new garden? Cubby was granted substantial money from the 2012 Community Partnership Building Grant for a new shade cloth and nature walk. Thank you to all the families (Arthur Sarlas, Marisa De Celis, Sally Day, Irene Castellano, Sandra Viera, Paul and Leonie Breen) and staff (Lee, Alli, Sarah, Jongee, Susie and respective husbands!) who helped at the working bee last month. An extra special to all the staff who have put in hours and hours of work to get the garden looking so amazing! The children are loving it, especially the new wooden bridge/pirate ship!

The Weekend to End Womens Cancers

The staff at Cubby has joined together as team CUBSTARS and are participating in The Weekend to End Womens Cancers benefiting the Chris OBrien Lifehouse at RPA. During one incredible weekend, 9-10 November, 2013, thousands of women and men will join forces for a monumental 60km walkthrough Sydney over two days to honour those weve lost, celebrate survivors and raise much-needed funds for cancer research and care. Proceeds from The Weekend will support the development of the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse at RPA, a world-class centre that will transform cancer treatment for Australians in an environment thriving on discovery, research, and uncompromising care. PLEASE sponsor us and help us Raise money for such a fantastic non- profit organisation. Lee, Dora, Suzie, Sarah, Alli and Annette are registered participants in The Weekend and have committed to walking 60km and raising a minimum of $2,000 each, to aid in this ongoing fight. Reminders
Just a few reminders to parents: It is important, when packing your childrens food, not to send wrappings and containers that have the potential to cause choking in our smaller children. No plastic bags please. Tops of yoghurt and food squeezy pouches are very dangerous. The lid on the right of the picture will not be accepted at Cubby. It states clearly on the container not suitable for children under 3. Although it is really feeling like winter these last few weeks... we please ask you to still take out your childs hat out of their bag on arrival and place on the hat stand. As it is a government policy that all children and staff must wear hats whilst outside it is far easier for us to pick up the stand and go outside... rather than a staff member going through 20+ bags to collect hats All Cubby members must use BigPond email only (concordocc@bigpond.com), not the hotmail account. And remember, please call the centre on 97436591 if you need to make or cancel a booking- email must not be used for this purpose. Please remember to ask at reception for your term payment receipt. The friendly staff will be happy to help.
