To: Tom Case From: Dennis Yi Subject: Proposal for the feasibility of a new campus dining center Date:

June 23, 2013 Purpose This is a request for continuation of research for the creation of a new dining center on UAA campus. This dining area if built will be able to support UAAs growing population, will offer more choices of food, and will provide a healthy touch to the meals served. Summary It is very easy to find a study spot on our UAA campus, yet the choices are likely limited if youre trying to find a good place to eat on campus. Not only are our choice of eating options limited, but our healthy eating options are limited as well. This research will require me to conduct feasibility report for the creation of a new dining center. There will be research conducted to see if student and faculty are open to the ideas presented and if this new dining area will benefit them. Further research will be performed in order to determine the feasibility of the report. Introduction On our campus youll find plenty of places to study but it seems as though we lack choices in dining options. Not only do we lack in dining services, we also lack the selection and variety of healthy food options here on campus. Researches will be performed in order to determine the feasibility of constructing a new dining center on the UAA campus. Ideally this dining center will provide a variety of foods, vast selection of healthy food options, and nutritional information to promote a healthy lifestyle. Determining the feasibility of this project will require me to conduct research to see if the students and faculty are open to ideas such as opening up a new dining center, having a huge fruit and salad bar, and having foods with nutritional facts to promote healthy eating. Some preliminary researches have shown support for the creation of the new campus dining area. According to UAAs 2009 campus profile report, the percentage of UAA students ages 18-24 has increased by 10 percent, the number of degree seeking students has increased by 15 percent, and the minorities attending college have increased by 4 percent over the ten year period from 1999 to 2009. In addition, the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics estimates that the number of employed in the hospitality and tourism industry is expected to rise from 12.5 million to 14.4 million by 2016. The preliminary research has shown that employment demands for the hospitality and tourism industry is expected to rise over the years and there will likely be no shortage of workers if this new dining area is to be built. Research has also shown that UAAs student population has been steadily growing over the years which mean that there is a potential market for a new dining center on campus in the mere future. The new dining center will provide student and faculty with more dining options, promote a healthy lifestyle, and helps enable students to be more efficient. Proposed Research

Task 1: Research to see if building a new dining center on campus would be an acceptable idea for students. Task 2: Research to see if students will benefit from the expansive selection of fruits and vegetables that will be served daily if the new dining area were to be built. Task 3: Research to see if students will feel as if they would benefit from nutritional info being displayed for various food items. Criteria Can UAA afford to finance this project? Will students use the dining center? Is there any space or a good location to construct a campus dining center? Qualifications and Credentials I am a pursuing a finance degree in business administration at UAA. In my previous classes I have done many researches. Some researches that Ive done are a feasibility report for an Indian Restaurant in town and another was a proposal for an Ice-cream shop in town. I feel that my previous experience will help me with this report. In addition, I am a student at UAA, I know about the local community and culture, which I believe will benefit me when I am conducting my research. Schedule
