Gold Standard Award
2008-2009
I have been counting
down the days to July, even
overlooking things like
uh, MY BIRTHDAY, for
months now, because, for me,
July means my rst month
in Boston to attend grad
school!
Sooo, this issue is all
about getting out and
exploring the city that
you live in. I lived in San
Antonio for 7 1/2 years and
NEVER got to eat in the
Tower of Americas, or tour
the Japanese Tea Gardens,
or visit Artpace. I didnt realize all this until I ipping
moved away to Austin and found myself driving an hour
and a half back to San Antonio way often to nish my
Texas bucket list before moving to Boston. So dont make
my mistake, and start on your Alamo City bucket list
today!

DOMINATE
MOTHER NATURE
Though were typically more accustomed to giving you ways to drink for free or, you know,
nd a bang buddy online, sometimes we like to get a little more wholesome with it and tell
you how to make the most of Mother Nature. Because, lets be real, that babe is the BOMB.
WORDS: SAM SUMPTER
THE STUFF YOU NEED

THIS SUMMER
1. SWEET SHADES
Protect your pupils (and get
your gawkin on carefree) in
some sick sunglasses.
2. CROAKIES

clich classicslike Just
Around the Riverbend.
(POCAHANTAS IS PERFECT
FOR PARTYING, OK?!)
5. BEER

6. BOTTLED WATER
Because drinking from the
river? Thats Hepatitis waiting
to happen.
7. A COOLER
Keep that Natty Light cold,
kids.
8. A WATERPROOF
CAMERA
You dont wanna lose those
nip slip shots because your
Nikon got wet.
9. SOMETHING SHARP
Were not talkin a shank,
here, but you need something
sharp to shotgun, ya dig?
10. A DESIGNATED
DRIVER
When youre oatin with
Franzia for ve hours, make
sure youve got someone to
get you back alive, aight?

RECRUIT AT THE POOL
The best place to nd a completely
shallow relationship? In the deep end,
of course. Plus seeing your target half-
naked now instantly eliminates half the
potential unfortunate surprises later.
RECYCLE YOUR EXES
Go green and rock a round two with
a former high school sweetheart.
Just dont be shocked if theyve
gone downhill via freshman 15.
(METABOLISMS SLOW DOWN, OK?!)
RECYCLE FRIENDS EXES
Remember your best friends former
high school sweethearts? Yeah, totally
fair game now. After all, its been at
least a year, and time (but mostly
alcohol) heals all wounds anyways.
CHARM THE MOMS
Dress nicely, use good manners, and
moms everywhere will be dying to
set you up with their son or daughter.
Ask to see a picture though: There are
some faces only a mother can love

The fact that your classes are a fucking
joke
Everyone knows summer school is
supposed to be easy, including your
professors.
Morally sound girls in bikinis
Unless theyre stripping to get through
school, those girls are never going to be less
dressed in public than they are right now.
The ability to get some color
Your pale ass is going to wish you had once
December rolls around.
Freezing cold, American beer
Its never going to taste as good as it does
when its over 100 degrees outside.
Golng weather
If one of your hands isnt signicantly
whiter than the other by September, you
did it wrong.
The ability to ll water guns with liquid
other than water
You know what Im saying, hombre? Yeah,
you know what Im saying.
Empty bars
Underclassmen that went home to mommy
and daddy arent around to clutter your
favorite drinking spots.
The ability to pull Top Gun moves in beach
volleyball
If youre not playing beach volleyball and
slapping hands like Maverick and Goose
after a mean spike, youre doing it wrong.
Natures sexual heat lamp
The sun is up there keeping them all toasty
and warm. Thats half the battle. Its mating
season.
Total lack of responsibility
Its like free time at summer camp for you
right now. Get out there and freak someone
out.
10 THINGS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE
OF IN THE SUMMER
One thing that impresses you when youre out on a date?
When the guy talks about how much he loves his family
and knows exactly what he wants in life.
Whats the creepiest move a guy has ever tried to pull on
you?
I was at a concert and a guy came up to me and said,
Wanna meet an anaconda tonight?
What are your plans after Graduation?
I am going to live
in the South on the
biggest plantation
ever, no matter if a
Southern Gentlemen
gets me there or I do it
independently.
All-time favorite TFM or
TSM?
Wait, hes social chair?
Maybe I should text him
back. TSM.
