HOTTEST BARTENDER CONTEST
OH, HI JULY
Its hard to think about July in Texas without thinking about getting sweaty. Like, really, really sweaty. But you cant allow frustration over potential perspiration to prevent a celebration, ya dig? July is actually latin for Just use your imagination get your ass outside, so--to acknowledge the importance of scoring your daily dose of vitamin D--weve equipped this issue with 25 outdoor activities for you to do in Austin. Betweenturtle spotting at Town Lake, BYOB-ing at Blues on the Green, catching a flick al fresco at Republic Park and well.22 others, youre sure to have the sickest summer ever (while scoring a badass tan too, of course). Weve also got a college-themed guide to goin outside thats full ofmust-haves for your next float trip, dos and donts for an in-TENTS camping trip (yes, we ARE going to use that pun 18 times this issue), and gear you just gotta get to survive all that scary outdoorsy shitlike poison ivyand bears. Im also stoked this issue to finally reveal the winner of the Cover Girl Contest, Taylor Ray Anderson, who opens up to us on page 22 about big hair, blue steak, showing sheep and more. And--since-we couldnt have a July issue without gettin our MERICA on in honor of Independence Day--weve compiled hot, star-spangled looks that are sure to inspire chants of USA! USA! all night and all day. Plus, naturally, an aptly themed patriotic edition of hot or not. (Because Old Navy flag tees? Ew.)

10 FLOATING ESSENTIALS
THE STUFF YOU NEED TO ROCK THE RIVER THIS SUMMER
1. SWEET SHADES
Protect your pupils (and get your gawkin on carefree) in some sick sunglasses.
DONT:
When you light up a cig, you might as well be slappin Smokey Bear in the face. Only you can prevent forest res, so chill out with the Camels while youre campin, kids.
2. CROAKIES
So you dont lose said sweet shades when rockin the rapids.
3. SUNSCREEN
SPF is essential and, lets be real, theres no better pick-up line than Hey Babe, can you get my back?
DO: 7. A COOLER
Keep that Natty Light cold, kids. Put your food in the car at night to avoid a raccoon raid. Trust us: When it comes to snacks, those scavengers are even worse than stoners.
4. A SICK SOUNDTRACK
We recommend totally unclich classicslike Just Around the Riverbend. (POCAHANTAS IS PERFECT FOR PARTYING, OK?!)
8. A WATERPROOF CAMERA
You dont wanna lose those nip slip shots because your Nikon got wet.
DONT:
Thou shalt not litter is camping commandment number one, and youre gonna feel like a real asshole when a bunny chokes on your chip wrappers.
DO:
Scare yourselves 90s-style and get your Are You Afraid of the Dark? on with gruesome ghost stories.
6. BOTTLED WATER
Because drinking from the river? Thats Hepatitis waiting to happen.
DONT:
You didnt go camping so you can Facebook-stalk your ex, play Candy Crush and Instagram photos of your outdoors expertise (#camping #re #tent--#YOUREANNOYING). Ignore the iPhone for 5 seconds and look at the stars or some shit, mmmkay?
1. SPELUNKING
Get out of your dorm room cave anduhh explore a cave!
2. WHITEWATER RAFTING
Because blue water? Soooo pass .
Because you know what DOESNT bring all the boys to the yard? Rashes. Itchy, contagious rashes. (Uhhso we hear.)
3. BIRDWATCHING
Turn your binoculars away from that sorority house window though, brosif its not a heron, you shouldnt be starin.
Perfect attire for a rainy day in the woods and nally something to wear to all those uhhponcho-themed frat parties!
4. MOUNTAIN CLIMBING
Hell, youve been climbing over those piles of dirty clothes for monthsyou could climb Kilimanjaro tomorrow.
5. FLY FISHING
This IS just shing when you look really y, right? Shittttwe know youre good at that.

FITZ AND THE TANTRUMS WITH SAINTS OF VALORY @ STUBBS One of our fave bands, Fitz & The Tantrums, returns to Austin this month after absolutely killing it over SXSW. Their new album, More Than Just a Dream, explores a more electropop feelan exciting departure from their classic motown/ funk soundand promises to provide an extra element of awesomeness to their already epic live show, so get ready to dance! As Fitz said in our March issue, Theres nothing pretentious about this bandwe dont think were too cool for school. We want people to let their hair down and have fun with us. Sounds like a deal, dude.

1. Jud and Taylor have been playing music together for 7 years and would be considered common law if Texas allowed it. 2. Nicks beard at one point was longer than Saras hair. 3. Sara literally bumped into Robert Plant at the Oltorf HEB. He was buying beef jerky, steel wool, and soy sauce. 4. We may be the only rock 'n' roll band that is tattoo and tobacco free. That being said, we can probably out-whiskey you. So weve got that going for us. 5. Taylor has a Masters degree in Sociology from Texas State.

6. Nick is the head engineer at 5th Street Studios, where hes recorded White Denim, Slayer and countless local acts. . 7. Taylors rst love was skateboarding. He was sponsored by a local Houston skate shop and park called Dex. 8. Jud is the romantic in the group. He once gave a cactus with googly eyes on it and a balloon to a girl he liked for her birthday. 9. Jud is by far the best dancer any of us have ever seen. His moves can be witnessed in the video for our song Oh, Libby. 10. Taylor, Jud, and Sara were extras in a Terrence
Malick lm with Ryan Gosling and Natalie Portman. 11. Jud once made a sandwich for himself and Taylor out of every condiment that Sara had in her fridge. 12. Taylor and Jud have both respectively puked in each others cars. 13. Sara was born on July 4th and has been a pain in the ass ever since.

While were not sure what Gru, the girls and Dr. Nefario are up to now in the sequel, we do know that we totally dont care that its, ya know, technically a kids movie. And with a spin-off lm featuring the beloved minions due out in December 2014, this is just a taste of more delightfully despicable deeds to come.

Age: 19 Height: 58 School: Ole Miss Major: Chemical Engineering Relationship Status: Single One thing that impresses you when youre out on a date? When the guy talks about how much he loves his family and knows exactly what he wants in life. Whats the creepiest move a guy has ever tried to pull on you? I was at a concert and a guy came up to me and said, Wanna meet an anaconda tonight? What are your plans after Graduation? I am going to live in the South on the biggest plantation ever, no matter if a Southern Gentlemen gets me there or I do it independently. All-time favorite TFM or TSM? Wait, hes social chair? Maybe I should text him back. TSM.

The fact that your classes are a fucking joke Everyone knows summer school is supposed to be easy, including your professors. Morally sound girls in bikinis Unless theyre stripping to get through school, those girls are never going to be less dressed in public than they are right now. The ability to get some color Your pale ass is going to wish you had once December rolls around. Freezing cold, American beer Its never going to taste as good as it does when its over 100 degrees outside. Golng weather If one of your hands isnt signicantly whiter than the other by September, you did it wrong. The ability to ll water guns with liquid other than water You know what Im saying, hombre? Yeah, you know what Im saying. Empty bars Underclassmen that went home to mommy and daddy arent around to clutter your favorite drinking spots. The ability to pull Top Gun moves in beach volleyball If youre not playing beach volleyball and slapping hands like Maverick and Goose after a mean spike, youre doing it wrong. Natures sexual heat lamp The sun is up there keeping them all toasty and warm. Thats half the battle. Its mating season. Total lack of responsibility Its like free time at summer camp for you right now. Get out there and freak someone out.
