01-SAMSS-031 Product Marking for Pipe of Less than Six Inch Nominal Size

Scope This specification defines the minimum mandatory marking requirements for API SPEC 5L steel pipe having a nominal diameter of less than six inches.

Conflicts and Deviations 2.1 Any conflicts between this specification and other applicable Saudi Aramco Materials System Specifications (SAMSSs), Engineering Standards (SAESs), Standard Drawings (SASDs), or industry standards, codes, and forms shall be resolved in writing by the Company or Buyer Representative through the Manager, Consulting Services Department of Saudi Aramco, Dhahran. Direct all requests to deviate from this specification in writing to the Company or Buyer Representative, who shall follow internal company procedure SAEP-302 and forward such requests to the Manager, Consulting Services Department of Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.

References The selection of material and equipment, and the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of equipment and facilities covered by this specification shall comply with the latest edition of the references listed below, unless otherwise noted. 3.1 Saudi Aramco References Saudi Aramco Engineering Procedure SAEP-302 Instructions for Obtaining a Waiver of a Mandatory Saudi Aramco Engineering Requirement

Product Markings 4.1 4.2 The pipe shall have all of the API marking specified in API SPEC 5L except the symbol ERW shall be substituted for the symbol E. The pipe shall be marked Saudi Aramco, followed by the destination, Purchase Order number, and the Saudi Aramco Materials System (SAMS) Catalog

designated stock number. If there is no assigned SAMS stock number, the pipe shall be marked with the item number of the order. 4.3 The marking per the above shall be applied as follows: a) For pipe of nominal size 2-inch and above, the markings shall be on the outside of the pipe and located approximately 300 mm from the end of each joint. The area of pipe to be marked shall be clean and dry. The marking shall be paint stenciled using a white alkyd enamel or equivalent paint. For pipe smaller than 2-inch nominal size, the marking shall be embossed on metallic tags. The tag shall be attached to each bundle at one end.

Coatings Pipe shall be supplied without mill coating unless specified otherwise in the Purchase Order.
