Safety and Quality Care Nursing The first key area of nursing responsibility focuses on providing nursing care that is safe and of high quality. In the movie sisters keeper, safety has been ensured to the patient. But the time that Kate wanted to go to the beach for her to be relaxed then her mother didnt wanted her to go there because this will cause too much harm to her but then his father still follow what Kate wanted but still safety was ensured as well as comfort. Health care provider provides information about the status of illness of the patient. The family was oriented about the illness taken by their daughter and collaborates in identifying the goals of care and that goals were achieved. Management of Resources and Environment The next key area is the management of resources and environment. Providence Hospital is where the patient has been cared off and all the procedures has been done to her such as port-a-cath, bone marrow, stem cell . In there, she had undergone her chemotherapy where her family is paying too much for Kate to be cured and extend her life. The hospital is having equipment that is needed in the therapy especially the equipment for chemotherapy, the oxygen and so on. Health Education Educational core competencies include assessing the educational needs of the patient and family, developing and implementing health education plans and learning materials and evaluating the outcome of education administered.The family were able to know what acute promyelocytic leukemia is, the illness being suffered by Kate. They were also oriented on how to implement the interventions needed by Kate. Legal Responsibilities My Sister's Keeper tells the story of 13-year-old Anna Fitzgerald who sues her parents for medical emancipation. They expect her to give up one of her kidneys for her older sister Kate, who has had leukemia since she was 2 years old. Her parents conceived Anna because they needed a donor of umbilical chord blood to keep Kate alive, and since then Anna has donated bone marrow and stem cells to Kate when she relapsed. But now she no longer wants to continue being used as an organ bank for her sister, and her only resort is the law. She does her research and then goes to a lawyer, Campbell Alexander, who has had some notable successes representing children in courts. Alexander goes around with a service dog, but he is not blind, deaf, or physically disabled, and he won't tell anyone what the dog is for. When Anna asks why he has the dog, called Judge, he wisecracks that he has an iron lung and the dog keeps him away from magnets. Anna is a little girl who wanted to have a normal life; it is her right to fight for it. Consent has not been given to her when she was a baby because it is on her mothers hand to decide for her, but then it came to a pint that she has realized that she was important

too. Obtaining an informed consent now to her was a big deal because she knows knew now the effects when she donates her kidneys. Ethical Responsibilities In this key area that concerns morals and ethics, core competencies include respecting the rights of all individuals and groups, accepting responsibility for individual decisions and adhering to the nurses' national and international code of ethics. Right to live and have a normal life is what Anna is fighting for. Its not that she doesnt want to help sister to live anymore but she is also thinking that she also a person who needs to have a normal life. Decision being made by her should be respected because it is part of human rights even though she was still a child. She has a right to refuse for any medical procedures because it is her own body. Quality Improvement In the quality improvement key area, core competencies include identifying areas for improvement, participating in nursing rounds and audits, staying aware of variances in treatment and recommending solutions has been utilized to improve quality in treating Kate. Research Advance technology has been utilized in treating Kate. Through research, the illness becomes manageable. Records Management Patient charts and other documents since illness started were kept confidentially. It has been used to know the progression of the Kates illness. Communication In this key area, core competencies that includes establishing communication with the patient and treatment team, learning to read verbal and nonverbal cues, using visual aids and other resources when necessary, responding to patient and group needs and effectively using technology to facilitate communication were seen. The doctor sometimes used the mobile to tell Kates mother about the status of her daughters illness. Teamwork Teamwork and collaboration were seen in the movie as the physician and the family fritzgerald been able to follow what the doctor is saying especially when giving medications. The family are following the therapy needed by Kate and is communicating care plans with other health care team members.
