Upcoming Coaching Courses and Seminars in Auckland - as at 11/04/2013

There is no charge to attend any activity but enrolment is essential to ensure a place. Enrolment is through Dave Norris dnorris@clear.net.nz or phone 09 426 7497 BASIC ATHLETICS COACHING CLINICS 1 series of 3 hour clinics on each event or group of events, covering event technique, how to teach and coach them and how to plan sessions and a seasons programme. It will include some practical sessions. It will cover coaching an athlete from basics through to "National Class Teenager" and is an excellent foundation for later more advanced coaching at National and International level. The syllabus is based on the IAAF model and qualifies for Athletics New Zealand DEVELOPMENT LEVEL 2 BASIC ATHLETICS COACHING (BAC) qualification. Coaches are some of the countrys most experienced and successful, all with international experience and success.

It must be arranged in advance and a limit must be imposed to avoid unmanageable numbers. Such athletes need to be mature enough to understand the theory so probable lower age limit is about 14years. ATHLETIC SKILLS COACHING FOR JUNIORS Courses of 1.5 hours per event, especially designed for beginner coaches of junior athletes, to teach basic technical models and how to

coach them, with some practical sessions. These were designed for the Papakura Club but are open to other attendees. The previously advertised provision of a coach to visit clubs and train beginner coaches in Basic Athletics Skills for Junior athletes, that has been going on all year,

is still available. We realise that club activities are almost closed for the season but the coaching activities remain available until the end of April if any club or school wishes to arrange attendees. Requirements are that the club provide some demonstration junior athletes from 10 years of age and older (ideal number is 4 to 6) and parents or others wanting to learn the basics of the following events: Track running and starting Jumps (high and long) Throws (shot and discus) Other events by arrangement The sessions are 1 hour per event at the club requesting them. Inquiries as per the enrolment method at the top of this article. They are available to clubs or schools.

These activities are provided free to attendees, club or school, through funding from Athletics NZ, Athletics Auckland and the Greater Auckland Coaching Unit.
