7mins- 3/6 Exam Review- 4/6 Technically 5/6. Ok VR Strategy S1: Understand the question by Rephrasing it.

. S2: Mapping. S3: POE Codewords OS- Out-of-Scope NS- Nonsensical FUD- Faulty-Use-of Detail W- Just plain wrong answer choice that makes no sense! E- Extreme TL-Too Literal Categorizing Questions Verbal Reasoning is essentially a puzzle game. You shouldn't have to think too deeply about your answer choices. All the answers or the best answer, I should say, will always be in the text.....Be Explicit unless asked to be Implicit. BE Explicit, Be Be Be Explicit Be Explicit Unless asked to be Implicit. P32 Fact Question Link: The united states S1: What did the passage say about the U.S? S2: This is a really vague link and with only 7 minutes its best to use the concept to answer this question. The concept is that although the U.S. should be poor and disharmonious with all of its diversity and lack of resources, it is still one of the greatest countries in the world. 1. According to the passage, the United States: A. produces many diverse and vital goods W. We know the author argues the U.S. does not produce many diverse and vital goods. They are lacking. B. is rapidly becoming independent of the outside world.- Wrong. The author makes a point that the U.S. is not independent and is actually very dependent on other countries. C. is severely lacking in natural resources- this is an ok answer choice. But make sure you pay attention to verbs severely Let's map this. Where can I find this LH P3 Where it talks about platinum and tin. Just from mapping this seems like the correct answer. in terms of natural resources the U.S. has certain vital deficiencies D. fails to produce, on its own, all of the commodities it consumes.- :Let's look at the other answer. This is an extreme answer choice -All of the commodities it consumes consuming half the world rubber crop and growing none; using a huge proportion of the world's raw silk without cultivating any silkworms From our mapping we see that D is an extreme answer choice. The passage does not say all of its commodities It only mentions a few

examples.

Fact Question Link: relationship between individual states and the federal government S1: What did the author say about the relationship between the individual states and the federal government? S2: This setup immediately tells me to map this in the passage LH P2. The main point of the map is that the states before and now still fight off the influence of the federal government. We want an answer choice that sounds like this. 2. The author's description of the relationship between the individual states and the federal government indicates that: A. individual state governments must be careful to guard against federal encroachment I don't like the way this answer choice is phrased but it sounds alright. -W. This is a general BS answer. B. state governments tend to resist expansion of federal authority This is a much better answer than A besides the world switch of federal authority instead of federal government This the best answer that talks about their relationship!!!!!! C. separation of state and federal governments guarantees growth. - OS. This is an easy elimination. Simply out-of-scope. A lemon answer right here. D. the U.S. Supreme Court prevents the federal government from interfering in state matters- Ah this is also a good answer. But this where being a good reader of the question comes in. Which talks about the relationship between the individual states and the federal government? B does. This answer choice includes the U.S. supreme court which makes it incorrect even though it is supported in the passage. - Out-of-scope. Fact Question Link:the profound differences among America: S1: What does the passage that the profound differences among Americans have provided the U.S. with? S2: Again, another question where you should map straight. This comes in two places LH P1 and RH P1. Let's check out each in turn. These distinct and diverse national elements frequently produce national disharmony. American's greatness probably stems primarily from the interaction and cooperation of its diverse elements Clearly the way the answer is phrased we know our answer is in the LH P1. 3. Information presented in the passage suggests that the profound differences among Americans have provided the United States with: A. internal tensions, international prestige, and economic prosperity -Bingo, combines both the maps we made. But this is a tricky one. You didn't need to map for this one, given the other answer choices. This was really a concept question. Meaning you could have gone both ways. Either used the overall understanding or map. B. excellent and diverse cuisines.- OS. This was never mentioned in the passage. C. an economy whose boundaries are consistent with

political realities.- Wrong. We know he says the opposite. D. citizens who can now be considered "typically" American.- Wrong. He says there is not typical american. This was an easy question.

Concept S1: Which question can be answered by what was said or implied in the passage? Do not map initially since it is a concept question. 4. Which of the following questions can best be answered by statements made or implied in the passage? A. What are the prospects that Americans will, in the future, decrease their consumption of raw silk and rubber- This cannot be answered by the passage. This was just an example used. B. Which of America's immigrant groups has had the greatest positive influence on American culture? Whoa now. This is way out-of-scope. We know that we cannot answer this one either. C. Why did the American government endorse a flag salute that refers to "one nation, indivisible"? - This is looks recognizable but can the passage info really answer this? By POE, This must be the right answer! Don't ever think too hard about a question. I think I had a good pace with this passage regardless of what my score is. D. Is there likely to be a negative economic effect from future increases in trade and communication among America's various sections and factions?- Actually this is the correct answer. Should have gone with my gut feeling that C was nonsensical. It required me to assume which is wrong on the MCAT. Be explicit, Be Be explicit! Well, in this case my POE was wrong. The author did talk about trade and communication I should have caught that but I didn't read the conclusion too closely and didn't pick up the link. Fact Question- Retrieval Type S1: What does the passage say about the American economy? S2: LTEA 5. According to the passage, the American economy is characterized by: I. local diversity. - I don't remember seeings this and I'm unsure of what it means. Yes, the passage does say the American economy is diverse. So local diversity makes sense. II. competition among different geographic units- Yes I rememeber this one, let's map it if we can. LH P4 competition with every other unit III. regional inabilities to produce needed commodities. - Yes, New england struggling for food, no automobiles in the northwest A. I only B. II only C. I and III only D. I, II, and III When I answered this question, I knew 2 and 3 were right but I couldn't understand 1. So I looked for an answer choice with 2 and 3 but didn't see so this by force makes 1 correct. Had there been an answer choice with 2 and 3, you would have gotten the question wrong.

Fact Question -Retrieval S1: What are the reasons the author contributes to why it is difficult to identify the precise source of American's greatness? S2: LH P1. 6. The author states that it is difficult to identify the precise source of America's greatness because: I. America has a unique combination of features. - Yes. II. America does not interact significantly with other nations- This was not disucssed in the map. And we know this wrong. America does interact with other nations. However, this is not a reason the author attributes. III. America is a highly homogenous society- This one is wrong. A. I only B. I and II only C. II and III only D. I, II, and III Wow eh, not bad. It feels good to be combining my old approach with my new one. Let's check to see if you got the correct answers for the passage. Overall 4/6. Technically 5/6. Not bad. I definitely feel like I am getting more out of this process by analyzing it like this. Imagine if I had done this for all 30 passages. That would have been insane! I would be beast right now!
