One set of talks (Talk Nos 114 & 116) are an outline of what happened, and The second lot of talks (Talk Nos 117 to 119) is a description of the reaction of the Muslim world or the Muslim Populace to the changes or the social tribulations that were taking place right throughout this history. 3. The main objective of these talks (and therefore the scripts of these talks), is to stimulate thinking. Sensible, rational and logical thinking. So, my message, think, think & think! Be sensible, be rational and be logical.

Allah mentions and describes many categories of people in the Quran. Not only does Allah name these categories but He also provides for us details of the qualities that these categories of people possess. It is for us to read the Quran and then try to work out the real message. This needs time, discipline and devotion. One category that Allah refers to many times in the Quran is that of the Mumin. In English it is translated as Believer Imaan means belief and the Mumin is the person who believes. The word Imaan is made up of the tri letter root Hamza Meem and Nun I found it revealing to find that this triliteral root hamza mm nn ( ) occurs 879 times in the Quran, in 17 derived forms. Out of these 879 times the word Mumin appears 202 times and the word Muminaath (referring to the female Mumin) appears 22 times. These numbers give us an idea as to how much detail Allah has gone in to describe to us Imaan and everything associated with it including the Mumin. Let me briefly read two Aayaths that would give us an indication of the categories of people that Allah tells us about and also about the qualities of these people. In Surah Ahzaab Aayath No 35 Allah informs us about 10 categories of people, including both the male of this category as well as the female of this category. The Aayath begins with; (33:35) (the beginning phrase) Surely, Muslim men and Muslim women, believing men and believing women, And ends with the assurance;

(33:35) (the ending phrase) Allah has prepared forgiveness and a great reward.

Similarly in Surah Taubah Aayath No 112 Allah describes 8 out of the many qualities of the true Mumin:

(9:112) (They are) those who repent, those who worship, those who praise (Allah), those who journey (in Allahs way), those who bow in Ruk, those who prostrate in sajdah, those who bid the Fair and forbid the Unfair and those who preserve the limits prescribed by Allah. And give the good news to the believers.

So we have categories of people, both good people and evil people. The good people possess or strive to acquire good qualities and the evil people possess or indulge in accumulating evil qualities. Let us read more Aayaths that describe the quality of a Mumin. In Surah Araaf Allah describes other 5 qualities and also describes the reward that awaits them. (8:2) Certainly, the believers are those whose hearts are filled with awe when (the name of) Allah is mentioned; and when His verses are recited to them, it makes them more developed in faith; and in their Lord they place their trust. (8:3) (They are) those who establish Salh,

and give away from what We have given to them.

(8:4) Those are the believers in reality.

For them there are high ranks with their Rabb, and forgiveness, and dignified provision.

In Aayath No 15 of Surah Allah describes more qualities of the Mumin (49:15) Believers, in fact, are those who believe in Allah and His Messenger, then have no doubt, and struggle, with their riches and their lives, in the way of Allah. Those are the truthful.

Not only does Allah describe the Mumin but also describes their qualities. It is also interesting that Allah does not stop there, he instructs the Mumin. There are 88 Aayaths in the Quran that begins with the words Yaa aiyyuhallazeena Aamanoo or Oh You who believe If we claim to be Mumins, surely should we not try to learn all these. We should learn the description of the Mumin to find out as to whether we really are Mumins. Then we should learn the qualities that the Mumins would possess. Is this not important? And then we should try to read all the 88 aayaths that are addressed to the Mumins, those that begin with Yaa Aiyyuhallazeena Aamanoo and then try to carry out the instructions or the guidance that Allah has provided for us. 1. I have had the great privilege, (since Aug 2010), of presenting talks on the weekly Radio Program Culture of Islam [Friday 5.30 to 6.00 am, Radio Sri Lanka - FM 97.4] 2. Since these are Radio Talks, I refer to, or address the audience as listeners 3. I am well aware that the audience to these talks would consist of people belonging to a variety of faiths. So as to make people of all faiths feel included, I very often use words and names that are common to all religions. 4. For these reasons, I use the name GOD, as well as Abraham, Moses, Jesus etc as well as the names Allah, Ibrahim (Alaihis Salaam), Moosa (Alaihis Salaam), Easa (Alaihis Salaam) etc 5. Muslims by habit usually say Sallallahu Alaihiwasallam, when the name of Prophet Muhammad is mentioned, and Alaihis Salaam' when the name of a Prophet is mentioned. However, in these series of talks I have reduced the use of these prayers & sayings to the bare minimum. 6. Muslims, also by habit, use a number of Arabic prayers or sayings, such as Alhamdulillah, Insha Allah and so on. Again, I have reduced the use of these prayers or sayings to the bare minimum. 7. Sometimes I have to write Arabic words in the English script. I have devised my own way of writing Arabic in English, as follows;
