CHAPTER 3 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The study focuses on the marketability of shimmer lipsticks using the iridescent shimmer found in Sardinella Longiceps scales as the additive component. A pure or basic type of research was used in conducting this study. It involves the collection of data from women of various ages in Metro Cebu. In shaping the results of the study, certain questions have been asked regarding consumer awareness, willingness and preferences of lipstick. This will serve as the researchers primary data which will be fundamental in determining certain factors necessary in achieving the objectives of the study. For the sources of secondary data, certain literary works of different researchers have been examined.

Research Environment Known as the Queen City of the South, Cebu City is an important place for commerce, trade and industry. In connection to this fact, the research location for this study consisted of two areas; residential areas and commercial areas. Some of the survey data needed for this study were gathered in the following residential areas such as mainland Lahug, Guadalupe, Banawa, Mambaling, Ramos and P. del Rosario Street. Since the study is conducted during the summer, most of the respondents between the ages of 18-21 years-old came from household areas, the researchers feel are keen enough to this kind of concept, residential areas were chosen as the main locale of this research in relation to the fact it has on the targeted respondents[?]. Some of the survey data needed for this study were also gathered in the following commercial areas such as IT Park, Ayala Center Cebu, SM City Cebu, Paseo Arcenas, Colonnade Mall and Gaisano Metro Colon. Commercial areas were also chosen for population purposes. See Figure #2

Research Respondents This study was based on a sample of 200 female respondents from various places around Cebu ranging between the ages of 15-64 years-old. The respondents were chosen based on two conditions: a female and a lipstick user. For non-probability sampling, the researchers used the judgment sampling method for this study. Sampling data will be presented using tables based on the results of the survey questionnaires.

Research Instruments Survey questionnaires were used in gathering the necessary data. The questions were formulated in such a way that responses would reflect the preferences of individual cosmetic consumers, their perception on lipstick in general and on shimmer lipstick with Sardinella Longiceps scales as the additive component. These questions are essential in the presentation, analyzation and interpretation of data which will derive the responses on the research problems. The survey questionnaires were constantly reviewed and tested before it was distributed to the respondents to ensure validity and reliability.

Research Procedures

This study used the judgment sampling method wherein the sample was to be selected from a population of women of various age groups within the area of Cebu City. These respondents were considered to be in the best position or most knowledgeable, to give the needed information. Around two hundred survey questionnaires were distributed to various women in different residential and commercial locations in Cebu City. Some of the respondents were of known associates of the researchers while some of the respondents were randomly selected in the various research locations in both the residential and commercial areas of Cebu. The questionnaires were directly distributed to the respondents and were collected immediately upon completion.

Gathering of Data. Data collection was done after distributing survey questionnaires to the various women respondents from within the Cebu City area. The women were selected to become the respondents based on the two conditions. These criteria were chosen to cater more to the research studys needs. The responses in the survey questionnaire forms were expected to provide data on factors that would greatly affect the research study. After one week of surveying, 200 questionnaires were gathered. The data contained in the field survey questionnaire form were tabulated, analyzed and interpreted. The planned collection of data is to be done by distributing survey questionnaires to the various women respondents from within the Cebu City area. In order to gather a variety of responses, the task of collecting the survey data will be divided among the

researchers and will be conducted in the different residential and commercial areas within Cebu City. Secondary data on fish scales as an additive component on shimmer lipstick were gathered by the researchers through various sites on the internet, published online researches (PDF), as well as specific excerpts of e-books that were also found on the internet. But due to time constraints and unavailability of a certain textbooks of the research topic in the Universitys Talamban Library, most of the secondary data were gathered through the use of the internet.

Treatment of Data. The data gathered were tallied and tabulated to present various factors the researchers would want to indicate. Frequency and percentage distribution were used in analyzing the data. These were used to analyze factors that would affect the marketability and feasibility of Sardinella Longiceps scales as an additive component on shimmer lipstick. The study does not include experimentation and laboratory visits. This study will only focus on determining the capability and benefits of using Sardinella Longiceps scale instead of using synthetic substances. As an addendum, the study will use Tamban or Tuloy. (scope and parameters) This will involve a visit at the fish port interviews (reason?) with the prospective respondents, and observations if their activities and lifestyle that may contribute to their existing problem. The study aims to inform the people of the benefits of using cosmetic products made with natural components
