evening/week required. This is a one-year contract to cover a 12-month leave. Date Ad Posted: July 19, 2013 Application Deadline: July 31, 2013 at 5 pm Location(s): Toronto Jessies The June Callwood Centre for Young Women is a multi-service resource centre for pregnant teenagers, young parents and their children. Jessies work includes a broad spectrum of services addressing issues related to the social determinants of health. Jessies operates from a feminist perspective and is a pro-choice organization that supports a womans right to make choices about her sexual health and pregnancy options. We strive to demonstrate our commitment to feminism, antidiscrimination and positive social change in every aspect of our structure and functioning. Jessies staff and participants (clients) come from diverse cultures and sexual orientations. Having a rich history in working with diverse populations is fundamental to this role. The Food Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, preparing, presenting and serving meals based on a weekly menu plan. The Food Program Coordinator is also responsible for training and managing kitchen personnel and supervising/coordinating all related culinary activities. Responsibilities Food preparation and meal planning Providing lunch for 25-35 people each day from 12:30 to 1:30 Monday through Thursday. Providing dinner for 40-50 people each Monday and Tuesday Providing snacks for groups as requested by group facilitators. Providing healthy snacks for toddlers attending Parent Child Centre programs. Food preparation for special events such as Board meetings, Holiday Party, etc. Coordinating food for the Summer Outings each Thursday in July and August All related shopping and ordering Incorporating donated food items, received from Second Harvest and other sources, into weekly menus Health & Safety, Space and Accessibility Working with staff, participants and volunteers to familiarize them with the kitchen and food storage Working with volunteers and staff and ensure they observe appropriate hygiene and food safety standards Ensure high standard of health and safety in the kitchen space

Cleaning, sanitizing and maintenance Washing all dishes and utensils Ensuring work areas and equipment are sanitized and cleaned on a regular basis Maintaining a safe environment for food and equipment Oversee maintenance of equipment and resources in the kitchen Ordering, budgeting and record-keeping Ensuring food costs are controlled and groceries are utilized effectively Assisting with loading, unloading and stocking of groceries and supplies Maintain daily records on number of meals served Assist with sourcing of food as needed Source, order and manage inventory of food for community meals and basic kitchen supplies Agency Expectations Attend staff meetings, trainings and agency functions as appropriate Role model professional behaviour and positive communication with participants, volunteers Interview, screen and supervise assigned placement students Liaise with other users of the kitchen space to ensure standards and best practices are adhered to Considerations Multiple demands and constant interruption in tasks Lifting, carrying and holding 35lbs. Standing for prolonged periods of time Exposure to cleaning products i.e. bleach solution Exposure to noise Qualifications Strong interpersonal and communication skills Demonstrated ability to plan and prepare healthy meals Food Handlers certificate and First Aid; WHMIS is an asset Creativity with recipes and menus At least one year experience in planning menus and cooking in large quantities, as well as cleaning and sanitizing a large kitchen and its equipment Strong food/cooking skills and knowledge of healthy eating practices, including prenatal nutrition Demonstrated experience working with and sensitivity to those who experience poverty, discrimination and food insecurity Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity Good knowledge of food handling and safety Excellent organizational skills and time management skills
